Anyone else feel the Bills would have given the Eagles a much better game?

We knew against the Ravens, Rams & Lions we had nowhere near the defense to compete in a SB.  Philly's defense tonight was fearless and abusive. I've never seen rocky Mahomes get that overwhelmed. It was like Fangio knew the exact play coming.  Until we lock down a dominant front 4, it's going to be more of the same.

It happened against the Raiders last year and against TB in the Super Bowl...

Just like we were no match for the ravens, right?

I think it’s a coping mechanism for some since the Bills weren’t in the game. They’ve convinced themselves we wouldn’t have had a chance - like we didn’t have a chance against the Ravens, everyone’s most feared opponent. Go back and watch the first half of that Ravens game, some of you forget how great the Bills can be when they’re clicking on all cylinders. They weren’t clicking like that against the Chiefs; different Sunday, different opponent, different location. The Eagles blasting the Chiefs does not automatically mean they do the same to the Bills. I won’t cope with that belief.

Back when I was in grade school there was this thing that I think was called the associative property where if a > b and b > c then we knew for sure that a > c. Folks apply that to football and it's often a fallacy.

We 60% would’ve lost a close game and 40% would’ve won imo

chiefs had to move thuney to tackle down the stretch this year which hurt their running game and made them absurdly one dimensional.  Their playcalling was abysmal in this one not sure what happened there, I’m pretty sure the eagles were all over their snap count too and the chiefs didn’t seem to mix it up at all.  Bills would’ve played a much better game…the offensive balance would’ve gone a long way

chiefs are getting a lot of benefit of the doubt since they’ve won superbowls before which I get, but they were absolutely awful in this one.   it’s coming off more as ‘the eagles were so good that they even made the amazing chiefs look bad’ when it really shouldn’t be imo. That was a ‘would’ve lost to the raiders’ type effort 🤣

Yeah, Chiefs just looked listless from the opening snap, definitely not the same effort they put forth against the Bills. As to whether the Bills would’ve lost a close game 60% of the time against these Eagles, it would’ve been fun to find out. The Bills, like the Chiefs, were (-1.5) favorites against Philly in the look ahead odds. Eagles played their best game of the season, even better than the beatdown they gave the Commanders in the NFCCG. Chiefs played their worst.

Yeah but you gotta win the game that gets you to this game. So it’s a different kind of coping for anyone playing hypothetical.

I understand the cope, it’s trying to find a silver lining in not making the SB. “We wouldn’t have won this game anyway, it would’ve been our 5th SB loss.” That statement is no more valid than “we would’ve smoked the Eagles too” had KC came out and dominated the birds. Styles make fights, emotion, momentum, hunger, it all goes into it. No one knows what would’ve happened in a Bills v Eagles SB, even against this same fiery Eagles team tonight.

Our game vs. the Ravens was on our turf. Please stop using the Ravens as an example of "Oh we beat them so therefore we beat the Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday." That logic doesn't work.

Super Bowl is different.

It's played on neutral field. Each team has 2 weeks to strategize. That's a lot of time. We don't have any home field advantage. Besides, Jalen Hurts is NOT playoff Lamar Jackson. Eagles don't have TE Mark Daniels either.

Eagles has Saquon Barkley in his prime. Yeah we slowed down Derrick Henry, but again, that was on our field on snowy slippery conditions that hurt the Ravens. We don't have that advantage at the Super Bowl.

Eagles has number one defense. They showed us tonight.

I watched an Eagles national game late in the season, when I was convinced the Bills would have a hard time beating them.  Their lines are arguably the best.  They are so big and physical and would likely have also dominated the Bills.

3-4 weeks ago I had the Eagles in mind as the team to beat because of that blue chippers playing well on D and all them WRs and Hurts being the perfect with Saquon and good enough passing ability.

Making the SB would have been a SB for me. I think the Bills would have loist by like 10 or so but made it fun into the 4th quarter

I get what you’re saying. The bolded portion is the ‘other’ coping I was saying. Yes we don’t know what would’ve happened in a Bills vs Eagles SB. But we definitely know what happened at the Bills vs KC AFCCG. So it’s a moot point to wonder on hypotheticals because Bills haven’t done their part.

At least seeing KC destroyed tonight made that pain a little better.

Our OLine would have likely had much better success both in the run game and pass blocking against the Eagles.

Not saying we would have won but I highly doubt it would have been 34-0 either.

We kept Henry in check. Bills would have been better, more heart.

Never once did I say “we beat this team therefore we’d beat this other team.” I said the Ravens were playing the best football of anyone and were everyone’s most feared opponent, yet we were 2 yards from going up on them 31-19 and had another potential scoring drive stopped where Kincaid dropped the ball. The argument was that you can’t say because the Eagles smacked the Chiefs that they’d smack the Bills, just like you couldn’t say the Bills would’ve smacked the Eagles had the Chiefs blown out the birds. Keep up.

That's cool. I specifically wrote about logic.

We would have lost tonight against a vicious Eagles defense. We couldn't beat the Chiefs. Remember, we didn't beat the Chiefs. Chiefs got manhandled by the Eagles. Hey, whatever helps you cope. Go for it.

Hell no. Better is a relative term, the Bills would have played with more heart, especially Allen since he’s a gamer, but at best they would have slowed them down some but that’s it.

Basically, we’d need the money we paid Diggs to go be a little B word on Houston and ruin their locker room instead for  two or three larger, better defensive players to have a real chance.

Say a prayer of thanks to Roger Goodell and his merry band of crooked refs tonight for that terrible 4th down spot two weeks ago!

Josh would have shredded fangios defense, but the bills defense would have been carved up too.

It probably would have been a similar Super Bowl to the one Brady lost against them

Reading comprehension, my friend. I’m not the one parroting “we would’ve lost tonight.”

bills need a FAST WR.   and everything else on defense starting with a pass rusher... a really good one.  CB, Safety, another Nickel CB, another LB (bigger) and a big run stuffing Dlineman.  probably too much to ask for one off season. I know Beane is good at later round draft picks but we really need picks 1-4 to be great picks THIS year.
