MJS Posted yesterday at 06:17 PM Posted yesterday at 06:17 PM Now, we need to hire someone with the last name Frowny. Quote

Kickoffs are pretty much gone. Punters punt to avoid returns and and very good at it. FGs are whatever. Just not a lot there anymore. This is why McBeanes don't pay the Siran Neals of the world anymore. Kind of a waste of cap dollars. So I guess I sorta couldn't give a crap who the ST coach is. 1 1 Quote

My point is McDermott is willing to make changes with units that underperform. It’s a far cry from what we’ve previously had in Buffalo. I’m not 100% sure about that, and have seen mixed reports about his departure. Some have said Buffalo was planning to keep him as DC and Frazier made the call to leave. If they were going to fire him, it would have happened now instead of in April. Maybe McDermott told him he was taking over play calling duties? The timing of Frazier’s departure always has been weird. Frazier left when a “Senior defensive assistant “ was hired, and he knew right then he was being second guessed by the HC, and the writing was on the wall, it was a subtle move by Sean, but as effective as saying “ clean out your desk” …, Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM I think they probably have someone in mind too, which probably explains the timing of this too. Probably the Denver ST coach. 1 Quote

It's one thing for our special teams to not seem to ever have any special plays scripted to take advantage of the other team in specific situations/deficienies they may have in certain formations. It's another thing entirely for other teams to seemingly be able to find holes in our special team formations in key situations consistently. It was unacceptable and the time to correct it is now. This was another area we were soundly outplayed in by KC in. Yeah McBeane are the first one's to talk about how you end your season influences decisions in the offseason. And the Chiefs clearly play better special teams and their defensive staff was a step ahead in preparation for the Bills offense in the AFCCG. That was obvious. So makes sense........try to get special teams coaching that actually makes a tangibly positive difference AND maybe they use Ryan Nielsen in conjunction with their advanced scouting to prepare game plans further ahead so they are working more on nuance/detail the week of the game and maybe can win some more downs with scheme. 2 Quote

Doc Brown Posted yesterday at 06:37 PM Posted yesterday at 06:37 PM Wow. Surprising news. Besides not converting any fake punt attempted, giving up every fake punt attempted, giving up a plethora of long kick and punt returns, not having the correct number of men on the field in critical game moments, and allowing multiple blocked punts throughout his tenure I thought he did a great job. McDermott better be right about this. 8 2 Quote

Why it took this long is baffling in a lot of ways. I mean, it is just Special Teams and in this day and age, they have largely been removed from the game because of rule changes, etc for most teams. But, for whatever reason, this guy and our unit seemed to find a way in their limited opportunities to make at least 1 terrible play a game that hurt us, sometimes badly. So, for him to be out is great news. Hopefully we can get someone in here from the outside that can fix Bass and can teach Martin, if he's back, how to get a punt off without taking a calendar year to do so. Good riddance. his first year the bills special teams were number one, the last two have been bad. Quote
Big Turk Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM Can we get Bobby April out of retirement? Make him the highest paid ST Coach in NFL history?? 1 Quote

MWK Posted yesterday at 06:47 PM Posted yesterday at 06:47 PM Still stuck with McDermott but at least he fired this loser. Now just don’t go and promote the assistant special teams coach again. 2 1 Quote

Being a great special teams player does not mean you can teach others to be great special teams players. Completelt different skill sets and often times the really great ones are the worst coaches because they assume every player has their skill set and can't relate to the ones whose don't and can't teach what they do because it comes naturally to them. No way I would even take a chance on someone who has never been a coach before to "hope" he is part of the 3% that can do it. That would be the type of hire the Drought Era Bills would make.
