But I think he had to take care of his ill mother for some years after his coaching career ended and that kind of thing will take a toll on you. Quote
TheBrownBear Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Well respected and well liked guy. Good player and good coach - just never had much of a roster to work with during his career. R.I.P. 3 1 Quote

Stable force for what was a messy organization at the time. Rest well. Hope you're welcomed with open arms. 2 Quote
BillsfaninChicago Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) He was actually a very good HC that did the best he could with limited resources and at times a GM by committee systems which would step on its own feet. Some of his defenses during the “cash to the cap” Ralph/Marv era were pretty sick all things considered particularly the secondaries he had. He also had a very funny and dry sense of humor. The infamous “we punted well” quote was really just a self effacing sarcastic recognition of work to that needed to be done. regardless RIP to an all around good person and a part of Bills history. 2020 Our Year For Sure Posted February 8 Posted February 8 That thing where someone dies so we change the whole narrative to be more flattering to them. I think the coolest Jauron thing was that time he went on the road to Indianapolis with virtually no good players and had a great defensive gameplan and almost knocked off the Manning Colts in all their glory. That was wild. Quote

stevewin Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) Sad. Remember when he first came, there was at least some optimism to have a 'steady' competent presence at HC. Remember Chicago fans remarking how eventually he would drive us crazy when his 'calmness' became infuriating and of course that came true. I even remember some chigago DJ had put out this slow sleepy song that just repeated 'Dick Jauron Jauron Jauron Jauron..." - that could equally be used to celebrate his steadiness (in good times) and mock his calmness (in bad times) RIP Edited February 8 by stevewin Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Back when the Bills had the game day hotline when you could report unruly fans, I texted “Dick Juaron is ruining my game day experience” He was fired a week later and never coached again. In hindsight, DJ was probably a good coach, who was saddled with some bad rosters and did a decent job all things considered. So Dick, I’m sorry about the text to the game day hotline 2 Quote

Jrb1979 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 He seemed like a great person. A coach players played for. One thing he will always be remembered for is his quote " It's hard to win in this league". Quote

BillsPride12 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Was working Overtime today and only saw a blurb about this on my phone earlier and didn't have time to digest anymore content about it...but I immediately felt sad which caught me off guard Regardless of him not being one of my favorite coaches here, he seemed like a genuinely good guy and will forever be a part of the story of my favorite sports franchise RIP Dick Jauron 1 Quote
