Beck Water Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (here for the sick Chiefs burn) TL;DR a die-hard Eagles fan wants to stay home and watch the Superbowl in decent privacy without distractions so she can scream, cuss, yell, and express herself. Her boyfriend says she's "selfish" not to attend his family's SB party and "spend time with him during the game". Redditor "Outrageous-Scene-290" responds: Quote NTA for wanting to stay home (and have you noticed all the people saying otherwise are also telling you to stay home which is what you want to do so I’m guessing they don’t read well, must be chiefs fans, I digress). I would make it very clear to him that the Eagles are in the Super Bowl and you have zero intention of “reining it in” and if he has a problem with that then he shouldn’t put pressure on you to attend. If he still insists you should attend, go and be your authentic self and if anyone has a problem just tell them “no one likes us and we don’t care!!!!” GO BIRDS!!!! 🦅 As a Bills fan, I can totally relate and I can't imagine the correct response "Get Your Own Damned Beer, I'm Watching the Game" would win her points with his family. 1 2 Quote
BobbyC81 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Yes, if the Bills had made it, and when they do, I prefer to watch by myself in my man cave. There are too many distractions at SB parties. I want to hear the announcers. I don’t want to have to ask ‘where is Player X?’ in the 3rd Qtr when the sideline reporter talked about an injury in the 2nd Qtr but I couldn’t hear it. I don’t want to miss hearing something because Joe Schmoe is all excited about being 2 game minutes away from winning $25 for the end of the Quarter in SB squares. Since Super Bowl commercials don’t matter to me anymore, I prefer to watch the game at my own pace and FFWD thru them. Finally, if the Bills were to lose, I would prefer to suffer by myself and also not take the chance that there’s someone there rooting for the opponent as there was at a SB25 party I attended, when me & most of the guys there were ready to punch him in the face. Fortunately for him, he read the room and got out of Dodge. 3 2 2 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted February 8 Posted February 8 No brainer. Can’t watch the SB for your own team at some social party. It will be filled with unknowledgable people and fair weather fans, and way too many distractions and talking. if the bills had made it, I would be watching it at home. 11 1 Quote
All_Pro_Bills Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I think the Eagles lady is right. Most people at SB parties care about the game as much as all those women wearing fancy hats at the Kentucky Derby care about horse racing. For them it's a social event and the sport don't matter. I would want to watch my team and not be distracted by somebody talking my ear off. When the Bills are in next year's SB I'll watch it with just the wife and me. 2 Quote

That and throwing F bombs around when the zebras are helping the Chiefs get that 3 peat. 3 Quote
dwight in philly Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I have resided in the Philly area the past 15 years , could care less about any of the teams here.. been a Bills fan since their inception.. die-hard Sabre fan and was there the night the Flyers won the Cup in 75.. cant root for the Eagles, but hope the Chiefs lose .., have made some nice friends over the years , but for the most part the people here are generally miserable.. live up to the reputation of "throwing snowballs at Santa Claus " Quote
Donuts and Doritos Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Don't go & be seen as rude OR go & be seen as crazy. 🤔 1st Bills game I watched at my now in-laws (when my wife & I were dating) was the Music City Miracle. 😳 I chucked the remote clear across the room at the end. Didn't go well. Stay home & watch alone. 1 Quote
JerseyBills Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I'd do the same thing . Only place I'd go would be a Bills bar, I turn into a lunatic lol 1 Quote
ProcessTruster Posted February 8 Posted February 8 to manage my blood pressure I started just this season to listen the game on WGR with my earpods while watching, to get the local call rather than the mindless tv announcers non-stop blabbing background info on the Bllls I already know better than they do . Benefit: turns out the audio is usually 5-7 seconds ahead of the TV video (nothing you can do pause and synch the audio) so I actually know the result of the play a few seconds before the video, which actually keeps you from blowing up when you see the video, without really distracting from the game. Weird I know , but the local call is so much better than the national call of the game, and the shock value of both good and bad plays is tempered a bit. It works.. sort of. 2 Quote
Jimmy Harris 69 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Of course Super Bowl parties at home can be forgettable. During the first Dallas loss , my parents were looking at me trying to remember how many times they dropped me on my head as a baby…so there’s that. Go for the first half, drive separate, leave. Yell f@@k a lot like Roy Kent on Ted lasso…..you know, life of the party. Quote
Buffalo ill Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Tell her boyfriend to stop being a little B word. Let her do her own thing. As a kid, my dad made me go to superbowl parties every year the bills were in it. Lots of obnoxious adults rooting for the other teams. Hated it. 1 Quote
T master Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I'm with her i'm not a huge Super bowl party guy i would rather just stay home, my wife has planned a birthday party for one of her kids that day & i'm not even sure if i'm going to watch yet but with the grand kids, and the entire family around i will probably be staying home even if i don't watch the game . transient Posted February 8 Posted February 8 The Eagles fan's husband must not be much of a football fan if he can't appreciate her position on this. She should say **** him and watch the game how she wants to. If the Bills had made it my wife wanted to go to NOLA (she's from there, and we still have a place there) for the game. If we did, I was going to watch it alone and then celebrate or wallow in public afterwards... and she completely understood that. 1 2 Quote
Steptide Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I'd be the same. If it was the bills playing, you couldn't pay me enough money to go anywhere except my house to watch it. I've watched bills games at other people's houses over the years and I hate it. I always go back and watch the game again the next day because I miss alot. 1 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I get it. My daughter has been talking about coming over to watch the Super Bowl and have a mini gathering if the Bills made it. She was politely told to stay away. On top of the extra distraction, it's not normal for her and her family to be at the house for a game...can't mess with the dynamics of superstition. 1 Quote
MJS Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I wouldn't mind a superbowl party with the casual football fans out there. I enjoy talking about the game and educating newbs about the rules, teams, and players. I don't get crazy or animated like some fans. And I have no issue asking people to pipe down when they need to. Football is more fun to me when I am sharing it with other people. 1 Quote

I'd either watch with my diehard friends, or be at the game itself. If neither was an option, alone is better than a social party where nobody is truly watching. Pick 1 of the other 364 days in a year to host a party, easy decision. 1 1 Quote
BRH Posted February 8 Posted February 8 The second-to-last Super Bowl I ever watched with other people (save for my dad and son) was XXVI. I was in college and kind of had to go to the Sports Information Department's party since I worked there. ***** miserable. The last SB I ever watched with other people was Falcons-Broncos in 1999 a few months after I got married. On the way home I informed my wife that I would be attending no, zero, none, nada more SB parties regardless of who was in it, and I have kept my promise. Being the only person in the place who actually wants to watch the game is no fun. Quote
