Trading a 1st round pick for a proven commodity like Diggs, proves that Beane will pull the trigger if he believes that player can make a difference, however, bringing in Von (although not a pick swap) may make him think twice about FA's nearing their 30's.

In the beginning, i believed in the FO strategy of building through the draft, however, it's not really working for us, so might as well try something else and kick the tires on a new strategy.

IMHO

This is when you make a move like a major trade.  This team is on the doorstep with its most important pieces all returning and it has continuity within the staff.

Go get Garrett, use 2 firsts if you have to.  Then if you see another player available where we can add a high quality player at Outside WR, CB, or S that could be had in a trade using one of our 2nds and maybe another pick if need be, pull the trigger.  We got a lot of draft capital this year, and the least amount of holes to fill in a long time.  Use some to go get the talent for a team that is absolutely ready to win NOW and do it before the other teams in our division get better as well.

Damn right. Stop clinging to those picks that will only get you the 5th to 8th best player at a position of need anyways.

Rams have been to the Super Bowl twice in the McDermott era, and had a team that beat the Bills this year, and fell just short of returning to the NFC championship game. Taking a serious shot, properly managed, does not mean crippling your team for the future.  Rams ways has objectively been far more successful.  And before blah blah blah NFC, Rams also did it with Jarrod Goff and Matthew Stafford, who are hardly Josh Allen

Their head coach is much better than ours, though. Needs to be taken into account.

Draft capital helps the salary cap.  For example, two of our best players are on rookie deals.  James Cook was a bargain at $1.2 million this past season.  Benford was an even bigger bargain, counting only $964,000.

Cook was a second round pick.  If you instead trade that 2nd pick for veteran, there is an opportunity cost in terms of salary cap, and youth.  You lose all of that when you trade for a veteran, with a larger salary.  You got more expensive and older.

IMO teams should build through the draft.  Always draft BPA.  Always trade down for more draft capital, this and next year.  Thrifty FA signings. Pay core players, but avoid high salaried players.  Comp picks galore.

Absolutely!

Win one Lombardi. That's it.

1. Cut fat

2. Extend Josh

3. Trade for DE, DT, WR, and CB

4. Those you can't trade, get one in FA

As for me, get me Dexter Lawrence/Justin Simmons as a DT.

Get Crosby or Garrett, though I like Crosby's projected price point better.

Get Courtland Sutton or Garrett Wilson to replace Amari and solidify the WR room.

If any of those 3 combined can be had for some firsts, seconds, and some other lower picks, go for it!

then get a better head coach

Easier said then done, obviously. We're in Year 9 of the Process, and it's gonna be different this time around, I swear!

Maybe this Garrett talk will loosen things up a little with other players. I'd be happy to give 2 1sts for Dexter. Then the Giants can go to no.1 for their QB if they want. Then sign Cam Heyward to a short, sensible contract.

Go edge and DB in the 2nd.

All I have read for the past few months is how this team is great, but McDermott is holding them back. So now the solution is to trade away the future for some stars that McDermott will fail?  Is McDermott the problem or is his roster incapable?  The madden GMs and high school football coaches here are losing their minds.

Aside from Josh Allen, Beane's best first round pick spent was on Diggs in a trade IMO.

Was it though? Everyone & their mother had the BILLS being mocked to Justin Jefferson that year. I too thought it was a no-brainer.

Yes Diggs provided some great seasons for us. But had we just kept the pick & drafted JJ, this whole conversation about needing a #1 wr wouldn't be happening in the 1st place. Sure hindsight is 20-20 & thats all we're doing here, looking back & evaluating. But it doesnt seem like that much of a stretch to think of the what-ifs, when so many had him mocked to us & we were in the position to draft him. I get why we didnt & made the move, dont care to rehash known details, but with hindsight, i cant agree it was the right move, given where we might be today had we not done the trade & simply had taken JJ where everyone thought we would going into that Draft.

Both teams could say they 'won' on that trade, but it sure looks like Minnesota won more & knew something we didnt, but that we eventually found out, prior to trading him & eating a $31 million dead cap hit. A cap number we could've used on real assets to help this team, instead of just eating it for him not to play here anymore.

So i agree with your general sentiment, just not the specifics i guess. Not when the outcome would've been better had he not made that trade & just picked JJ.

"Mocks" aren't the pick. Very rarely do the players mocked match the guy actually selected.

Yes in hindsight that pick turned into Justin Jefferson. But there's no guarantee that would have been the Bills pick. Heck with the pick before Jefferson, the Eagles and Howie Roseman who is regarded by MANY as the best GM in the NFL took...Jalen Reagor. Had the Bills stayed put I don't think they even go WR there. The pick IMO would have been Kyle Duggar and the Bills would have gone WR in round 2, 3 or 4.

Yeah the future blah, blah, blah.  Beanes drafting hasn't been stellar.  Just trade the picks for vets and let's win this thing.

( Queue fantasy football or Dan Snider comments)

That's not exactly how I would put it, but I am all for trading draft picks to get veteran players on this team.

The Bills need to make a move and find players who are stuck on losing teams and want to go to a team that has a shot at a championship.

If we have to mortgage picks in 2026, so be it. The Bills will be top contenders, again, next season. We can worry about rookie players later.

The future is now!

All for not with this defense. Did anyone see KC move the chains 10 yards at a time at will? No one big splash trade is going to change that.

Then what do you suggest be done to improve the team?

It scares me when beane and McDermott talk about how even though they haven't won the superbowl they've been successful. It makes me think they'll just keep doing what they've been doing, which is signing mid tier guys and getting the most out of them and drafting guys to develop them. F all that. It's time to go all in. If this season proved anything, it's that they can lose alot of core players and still be competitive. So go all in, win a superbowl, and if the season after we lose some dudes, so be it

Just to be accurate, both Cook and Benford are getting a big bump in pay under the PPE (Proven Player Escalator) this season.

Cook is getting $5.6M and Benford $3.2M.
