Agree, opponents Ds crowded the middle knowing that we had no viable vertical threat, we definitely need a speed guy that can run a full route tree, that would make a big impact for us,

I agree. I think it’s also taking a toll on Allen. He keeps a lot of plays alive by scrambling to buy time for WRs to get open. Eventually that extra punishment takes a toll. A quality, speedy WR that opens up the MOF helps that immensely.

Bring back Cooper and Hollins and draft some competition for Coleman in the middle rounds.

The rest of the offense is set if you bring back Johnson.

Let Davidson and Morris battle for TE 3

If you can convince Cooper to take a reasonable deal, it opens up the coffers and draft picks to rebuild the DL and secondary.

Every other team held the Chiefs to less points than the Bills. They must fix the defense. You can't expect Josh to play this perfectly all the time in the playoffs.  They need the defense to do their part. The D got turnovers against Baltimore but once again got shredded when it mattered most.  If Andrews catches that ball and the Bills lose at home again, McD may have been fired.  The playoff defense has been the problem for multiple years.  Beane has been fairly awful when it comes to the DL.  He has to get it right this time.

Hopefully Keon becomes more effective going forward, 🤞

They didn’t put him in position to succeed as a rookie. A lot of go routes and prayer jump balls.

Give him more screens and slants. Get the ball in his hands and let him get YAC.

Which, to a lot of people's points, I think @GunnerBill had said, Keon is really a big slot.

the highest drafted wideout during Allen's career is a mediocre slot receiver

let that sink in

I would like to see him in the 40-50% slot rate. Put players in position to succeed. Ceedee Lamb is about 40% out of the slot. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Lamb is one of the best wideouts in the league...he would be winning if they played him 100% outside

That wasn’t my point. You made it sound like slot WRs aren’t important.

If Keon is better in the slot where he can work vs slower players or smaller CBs then put him in the slot.

Mediocre anything aren’t important. Keon isn’t even mediocre at this point.

Do we have to point out the obvious problem with that?

It's a complete waste to re-up Cooper if he's not going to see the amount of targets to justify his contract.

Another rookie needs to be drafted with the intentions of becoming a future #1.

Higgins showed FAR more promise than Coleman in his rookie season and Cinci still turned around and drafted Chase the following year.

The Bills need a difference maker at the position.

and focus on Defense almost entirely.

UFAs: Amari Cooper, Reggie Gilliam, Ty Johnson

Over a week to reflect on that loss and the personell on our team is pretty clearly lacking on Defense, not offense.

OL: 100% set. I don't even see a single OL from the 53 man roster who won't be on there again next year.

For all the criticism Beane has been getting, applaud him for a pretty awesome OL... both starters and depth.

QB: obviously it's JA17 and who cares other than maybe money and who gives him the best vibes.

TE: set. Knox and Kincaid are pretty much roster locks. Morris and Davidson can fight it out for TE3 even though it'll probably be Morris.

RB: obviously Cook and Davis. Team loves Gilliam so I assume they're going to work something out. Ty Johnson is the wildcard. He was honestly really good this year and might be the only offensive player we're going to see leave. I do think Ray Davis has a similar skillset and if he absorbed anything from Ty, I hope it's pass blocking. Hope Cook absorbed that, too.

(Side note: extend Cook and create an offense that is Cook-centric in BOTH the run and pass game the way Thurm was in the 90s)

Wide Receiver: Here's the one everyone is up in arms about, but after McBeane's presser I feel differently.

Shakir is great and I hope Beane finds a way to lock him up long term on a deal good for both sides. He's obviously Josh's favorite target and they have great chemistry that can grow.

Samuel is on the team, contractually. He flashed when he was healthy. If he can stay healthy, he has great separation skills and speed.

Coleman is on the team, obviously. Good rookie season and getting better up til he got hurt. Then we all heard McBeane's comments. They had their exit interview and told Keon what they needed to. Work hard in the offseason (with the next 2 dudes) Keon.

Mack Hollins seems like a guy who isn't chasing money. Sign him, please. Awesome special teamer who legitimately plays the WR position well and has awesome perspective for the other guys.

Amari Cooper is the most controversial, but I think we should keep him. He was playing with a wrist injured enough that doctors said he could use surgery. First thing about him is his attitude. He's the anti-WR... just listen to his interviews. And he seems to love Buffalo. I heard someone say he's estimated at $15m per year? That's too much. I also doubt that's reality. I could see us re-signing him to a 2 year $18-$20 million deal and I'd be good with that. In the 90s Buffalo traded for a #2 WR who was 33 years old and that worked out pretty well. I think a healthy Amari Cooper with a full offseason with Buffalo would make for a much improved WR corps on its own.

At that point, it's playcalling not personell.

It's on you Brady!

GO BILLS!!!

Haven't you seen that All Aboard the Wide Receiver Train Choo Choo thread :)  This team so desperately needs a fast, deep threat WR.

No thanks on Cooper.  If they resign him they better be resigning him in line with his production level.

They should find a more dynamic player outside to go with what they have and I am hoping they resign hollins.  I hope they do it in free agency.

Personally, and I banged this drum all summer and september, I would kick the tires on Darius Slayton.  He is an explosive outside WR, A great teammate and locker room guy and he is desperate to be on a winnner.  He could bring the tools this team needs to make some more downfield plays in these big games they are missing.  He should not break the bank like Higgins.  They are similar in size, Higgins is a little taller.  Slayton can be more explosive imo.

So that's my free agent wr guy.  Darius Slayton.  Sign him for 3 or 4 years and backload all the money to the final two years etc.   Then go all in on defense.

Yes.

Knox - TE, primarily in line

Kincaid - TE in name only, best utilized as a Big Slot WR (Z)

Shakir - slot WR (Z)

Samuels - Y/Z WR

Hollins - X/Y (but backup level)

Coleman - Big Slot (Z)

We have a lot of Zs, one Y and no starting caliber X. When they drafted him Beane did say that they envisioned Coleman as an X, but that was an exception to the prevailing opinion of draft pundits and other GMs. They said that they thought that his best chance of success would be as a big slot WR.

Note: The X WR lines up winds and on the LOS, the Y is wide and off the LOS and the Z is in the slot.

If the Bills run this same WR corps back (even with Amari), I'll weep.

They need some guys that can actually separate. They need it badly.

Need a WR. You can only play the "every beat eats" or "Josh Allen do everything" game for a while. Adding a playmaker WR will make everything else easier.
