going to be sweet with him and Myles Garrett next season !!!

Why did you forget Crosby, Reed and Mack? We are getting them all... and possibly trading for Ceedee Lamb. Next years team is gonna be wild!

Agreed. I think they would need to renegotiate and spread out that hit. But for a 4th or 5th rounder, may be worth it to roll the dice to see if he can stay healthy for a year.

I keep thinking that for $20M the Bills can grab Tee Higgins and keep their 4th.

In my head I would have to get Kupp down to the $5-7M range. I don’t love the cost of paying LAR to do that, and I “think” I hate what that would do to the cap when the bill comes due at the end of his run.

If there’s a world where we can grab him without 3 dead years of $15M and a 5th, I’d take a flyer.

Breaking this down in real time in my head, I think there’s a world where Kupp could be cut and he picks his next spot. He saves them $7M by just releasing him. Otherwise I don’t think a contender is willing to take the cap number/give the Rams a high pick to keep some money.

Jeremy Fowler is predicting that Higgins could be up to $30 million per season, https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/player-news?playerNewsId=00000194-cd78-da9f-a794-cf7aa9440000

No freaking way you get Higgins for $20million, he's gonna be close to $30 million per.  Trading a 4th or 5th for Kupp and renegotiating his contract to get him in the $10mil range for the next two years with maybe $15mil of the 20 total guaranteed would be a huge win for us. Kupp is only guaranteed $5mil this year and none in 2026 so he may be willing to to do something like that for a contender. Even at 32, would be the best WR on our team by far and is a team first guy, it's a no brainer if compensation is minimal and he's willing to play ball on the contact.

I'd be much more interested in this. Yes Kupp is past his prime but that lowers his trade value and he's not quite the slot-only WR he's made out to be with a 56.5% slot percentage this year. Get a savvy  veteran with separation ability in the room. Where's the downside?

Injuries?

Just like how RB’s have been severely undervalued which we will begin to see RB’s trend higher than the current baseline, WR’s are currently overvalued.

The top 3 teams in the AFC have had lots of success without overpaying at the position.   Chase will most likely get $40m a year, Higgins who is a top 10 WR will get $30m a year.

At some point there will be a correction, once teams realize that if they have an elite QB that they don’t have to pay these overly inflated prices for a WR to get good passing production.

The Bills #1 need is deep threat who can stretch the field vertically. Haven't delved into WR acquisition targets but I'm not sure Kupp is that.

Agreed.  We don’t need a WR1-  we need a field stretcher that can earn 50-60ish% of the snaps

I thought there would be a WR market correction a couple years ago but you need so many WR's to gain advantages in the passing game that there doesn't seem to be any decline in demand for difference makers.

On the other hand,  this is maybe the deepest draft class of RB's since the 1990's.   So maybe the RB value uptick will be halted.  Especially as defense's have to revert back to more conventional defensive looks.

Correct. If that field stretcher is also the best WR on the team, that's a bonus IMO.

absolutely no way you trade for that contract. He is a guy you wait to get cut and then give him a reasonable 2 year deal.

It’s a bonus but will also make that WR much more expensive.   I definitely don’t see any rookies in this class being better than Shakir and a FA better than Shakir is likely going to cost 💲.  Maybe we trade for a stud….

Slayton is the guy I wanted last year and is still the guy I’d like this year (in FA),  but his price may be too rich for our tastes.

Do we have any slot receivers now? Maybe there's one designated that way, but I feel we never really replaced Cole Beasley. Josh thrived when he had Baez.

Samuels, Shakir are. Kinkaid often plays out of it. Coleman was better at big slot at FSU. I would much rather be adding boundary weapons. We have a lot of mix and match options from the slot.

Hello Darius Slayton.

He is a perfect fit.  I hoped all summer they would trade for him.  I hoped during the season they would trade for him.  Then they traded for Cooper.

Slayton is explosive, 6"1 199 lbs, great locker room guy and desperate to be on a winner.

He won't break the bank like Higgins.  He is perfect for Buffalo.

Agreed- I’m thinking he’s going to be more expensive than originally anticipated considering how weak the WR draft class is (imo anyway) in outside deep speed threats.  Not many in FA either.  Originally thought he might be a 10M guy- but now I’m thinking he could get 15-18ish

There could be variances in the supply of players in certain positions that could alter the trajectory of valuations, and honestly the main problem with the inflation of valuations in those positions is more of a philosophical problem in how these negotiations between agents and organizations take place.

You could have an elite playmaker get a contract and be the top paid guy in that position who in turn sets the market.  Then the very next guy who is set to get his contract who maybe is a 8-12 guy in the league at the very same position who is “next in line” could end up getting a higher payout or comparable to the top guy.

Thats a problem for organizations who are trying to build something special, which is why teams like the Chiefs would rather have those sort of guys just walk rather than pay them.

Too much emphasis is placed on position rather than playmaking ability.   Don’t get me wrong, certain positions should start off at a higher baseline than others but the idea that Dak Prescott is getting paid 37% more than Josh Allen who signed his contract just 3 years before Dak’s just shows you how out of whack the inflation in contracts in some of these positions have become.

These organizations too often are willing to pay out these overinflated contracts for fear of FOMO.

Generally speaking top end WR’s are paid too high and top end RB’s too low.

Gabe Davis signed a 3 year $39m deal and Saquon was paid less than that.  And the Giants weren’t even willing to offer Saquon even that, that’s how crazy valuations are right now.
