Cooper Kupp leaving the Rams. Want him?

If the Bills were to go for another outside WR (which I don't think is the preferred path), Kupp would have been my target.   

 

Even though he has been most used from the slot, he can beat defenders from the boundary as well.  He's also an excellent blocker, incredible hands, fantastic route runner and he's proven that he can perform when it counts.

The guy has missed more than 5 games the last three seasons.

If the Bills can rework his deal and add a year or 2 to lower the cap hit, go for it. $20 million/season is a lot.

He fits the Bills culture and type of player they like. I think if he got released or agreed to a reworked contract the Bills would be interested but the injuries and current salary worry me even for a Day 3 right now

I don’t see any team trading for Kupp, helping the Rams, and overpaying for an injury prone player. He only played 12 games last year and wasn’t a huge factor in the playoffs. He has missed six  or seven games in each of the last four seasons, including parts of playoffs in prior years. The Super Bowl season was his zenith. It’s a shame because he is a great team guy and I see him becoming a coach. Ironically the Bills could have drafted him in the third round of 2017 ahead of the rams. (69th pick of the draft). They moved up to the 2nd and drafted Zay Jones 37th, another bad miss. All these teams will wait for him to be cut. Somebody might overpay him if it weren’t for the injuries. Tough part of the sport.

Kupp is 100% a process guy. Plus, probably a great scheme fit. I actually think the Bills might be the spot.

IMO this is his most likely destination.  If he can stay healthy - big if, since McVay has been slamming him into walls for his whole career now - he could replace Kelce and extend their window a bit.

He really fell off in the last two months of this past season.  It was kind of Diggs-like.  I would be a little concerned.

I feel like the Bills already have a plethora of talented middle-of-the-field guys in Shakir, Kincaid, and Knox. Curtis Samuel is arguably at his best in the slot. Many (including myself) think Coleman's best chance at sustained success may come as a big slot.

In some ways, it feels like talented middle-of-the-field guys are ALL they have.

What they DON'T have is an ass-kicking outside receiver who can add explosiveness, take the top off a defense, and open things up for those middle-of-the-field guys. I don't think adding Cooper Kupp changes that.

If we added Kupp, we'd be going from a team that can win over the middle of the field but needs major outside help to...a team that can win over the middle of the field but needs major help outside.

Simply put: While Kupp CAN play outside, he is primarily a slot guy, and more slot guys are not what the Bills need.

Id give up no more than a 4th round pick for him and would have to significantly rework that contract. No doubt he’d improve the offense.
