I've just seen too many instances where WRs of ours who aren't particularly fast or awesome at route running (or at least, not as fast or good as they used to be) still get wide open on long passes. Gabe Davis somehow made some of the longest catches in recent years. Diggs was wide open several times on deep routes in recent years, on many of which Josh couldn't connect with him. Same with some other less-than-impressive receivers we've had. I think I just don't understand offensive and defensive schemes well enough to understand the issue or answer the question. But plenty of other teams manage to get WRs who aren't superstars wide open at times. Why can't we do that more? Good points. Against both the Ravens and Chiefs I was struck by how easy both of those offenses made it seem with WRs often running wide open, whereas, it seemed like the Bills had to fight tooth-and-nail for every blade of grass. Some of it definitely has to do with the main coverage scheme (man vs. zone), but there's a lot more to it than that. We seem to run more zone than other teams, which means other teams' WRs can find open spots if the pass rush doesn't get home quickly enough. Other teams seem to play more man vs. us, probably because our WR aren't great at separation. I don't understand it any deeper than that, though. Quote

Consider, Kincaid was just OK this year, so with an offseason and a chip on his shoulder to prove something, he should put up big #s and Brady will make him a big part of the offense. Coleman will only get better when Josh adjusts to his skill set. Shakir is as solid as any slot receiver in football and Samuel was productive in a limited role but we’ve got to use him better because he was not nearly as reliable as he was as a primary target.. Finally, with Cook,Johnson and Davis the mismatches are plentiful coming out of the backfield. With these weapons the acquisitions should be all on defense. Oh really? What were the Bills WRs really going to do against Cooper DeJean, Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell? Quote

He caught only 7 out of 21 targets. This gives you hope? Beane called out Coleman. Keon lost the eye of the tiger when he got hit. Does he get it back? I doubt it. Kincaid is barely an average TD, and has drops in big spots. What leads you to believe Dalton will put up “big #s”? Quote

And the Bills offense just put up the 16th best offense in the history of the NFL and best in Bills history. Our offense isn't the travesty some people make it sound like when expressing WR concerns. But don't get me wrong, we absolutely need to address WR this offseason...but I do very much hope, and expect, that Hollins will be back because he was a good player for the Bills this year. I would love to keep him just for his effect on the locker room.. but I also think he is very underestimated on a ST unit that was highly questionable.. as a receiver he is a big physical force... like put 20lbs on him and make him a TE lol... obviously strikes no fear into the hearts of a boundary CB covering him unless its a jump ball.. but seems to find a way to make a catch or 2 a game... sometimes big catch.. just like the dude. As a 4 or 5 WR... Edited February 6 by JP51 1 Quote

Buffalo_Stampede Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Dawkins says if we had Deebo we’d be in the Super Bowl. Now he’s not the perfect player for Allen or someone I want but he is a perfect fit for the offense we run. If SF eats some salary and Deebo eats less food, I would be good with a trade. 1 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted February 6 Posted February 6 We just need a WR who can provide separation and can run some routes. That’s all. It’s definitely doable in the draft. We can’t afford a big trade with Garrett, and a free agent WR. Way too much $. Quote

They did it last year and got beat by 60 yd FG at the gun against Philly. Quote

The Missouri wide receiver that I said Josh needs Luther burden actually has skill sets similar to him But he's probably a little faster with better route running , deebo is more physical But Luther is dangerous on designed yac plays and screens and has savvy route running too Edited February 6 by Buffalo716 2 Quote

Go up and get him? I’m all for it. We need to find a cheap WR1, that’s the only way to do it, the draft. Quote
