I am not. There's something about small, fast receivers that oddly have all the pros and cons of red sportscars though.

With Hill that's a good analogy.  Quitting on the team last year showed who he really was.

I want a physical freak who is about 6'4" and 230 lbs and runs the 40 at 4.3 or better with a 40+ inch vertical.  He also never drops the ball and is an elite route runner.  It would be good if he could fly, but that might be asking a bit much.

In retrospect, I don't think there's a single Bills fan who wouldn't have been okay giving up an additional high pick or two to move up five spots for this guy.

Would've given Josh a locked-in high end #1 with size, speed, and explosiveness for the next decade.

I get that Beane felt the roster needed to be rebuilt with depth last offseason and was thus hesitant to give up draft capital, but no one can convince me that Coleman plus, say, Dewayne Carter and another mid round pick would be worth more to this team's championship pursuits than a bona fide alpha WR1.

Yeah. Between BTJ and JJ, I’m wondering if there’s any WR superteams in college or this year’s draft - because that #2 on the superteam seems to wind up just as good in the pros.

Give me Megatron and Vikings Randy Moss on the outside, and any version of Jerry Rice in the slot. Completely unstoppable.

He's needed a deep threat wr since day 1.  And besides a brief time with John, he's had every other type except the X.  BTJ would've been the perfect long term X for Josh but Brandon was too timid to make the move. Coleman will never have the speed to play this position and Higgins $ needs to go toward a DE.  So we gotta hope we can find an exceptional wr in the 4th or 5th round.

Almost sounds like rather than a DK Metcalf (as many are hoping for), a Tyler Lockett type is more specifically valuable to Josh Allen (given the OP's logic). Excellent deep speed/extra gear and enough sneaky nuance to repeatedly get behind (and then stack or simply outrun) DBs, with near-elite ball tracking. Very similar RAS to Desean Jackson's, believe it or not. That's the John Brown mold, just a little bigger and healthier and more athletic overall, innit?

Yes that's another receiver name you could use

A Tyler lockett mold .. super underrated, tremendous ball skills

Someone who can take a bubble screen for yac, or use nuance and leverage to stack you deep..  which leaves the intermediate game open for other routes

That's why I like Luther burden.. even though it was a down year

He has shown great tracking skills, yac from bubble screens..  a high pointing ability and a savviness in his deep game

Maybe not 4.38 speed.. but prolly 4.42 if I had to guess..  but he can go inside or outside with his leaping ability, hands catcher.. and I think the best of his game is still ahead of him

Even Robert Foster legitimately flashed in the second half of Allen's rookie season. Guys with that extra gear and knack for getting behind a defense had historically performed well with Allen...until things changed. The Bills WR depth chart got gradually worse, no doubt, and right as defensive coordinators learned to put a bit of a lid on the deep ball.

Hence the offensive pendulum swinging back to balance and blah blah. But you still need at least that deep threat to compete against the best. And the Bills need to get it back to complement their balanced, physical attack. To continue to evolve.

The Vikings got the 23rd overall and a 232nd overall (seventh round) in 2024 for 42 overall (second round), No. 188 (sixth round) in 2024 and a second-round pick in 2025 in order to get #23. By contrast the Bills ended up with pick 33, 95, 141 and 221  for pick #28, 133 and 248 all in 2024.  We then traded a 2025 3rd for Cooper. Tell me how we gave up the same?

I appreciate your analysis. The part I didn't add, was the cost of still filling that same hole. Let's say we use another second this year, on what we perceive to be our future #1 guy, it would be 2 2's and a 3, and you're still not likely to get a guy that's in the same tier as Thomas. At some point we need to add some difference makers. Not just another guy. Keon to me, is just another guy, and wasn't worth our 1st pick last year.

However, I will say that I did love the Bishop pick, and if he turns into the difference maker we think he has the potential to become, you totally win the argument. I have to admit, that I'm probably still living in the moment. But we still do need to get Allen that big weapon. That to me, should be non negotiable.

Elite wide receiver is such a nondescript term... People thought diggs went from elite to not in one year lol

There are elite route runners, elite speedsters, elite hands guys..  football's not x + y = z.. guys get it done differently

Now what I think you're trying to say is you just want a Hall of Fame type player.. which any team all 32 would take

Yes give me Randy Moss they don't grow on trees.. you need to be able to develop a 22-year-old kid and turn him great

Elite is subjective.. and changes yearly based on statistics.. what doesn't change is pure talent and hard work

I n ver thought Diggs was elite

Yeah, but again it's all subjective

People thought Odell Beckham was going to be the best wide receiver of his era and I knew he was going to fall off a cliff because wear and tear

Having a good three years is different than having a good 12 years

If you're drafting a wide receiver in the top 15-20  yeah he should be special lol

But you need to be able to turn second round picks third round picks with really good talent and make better at the NFL level...

It's one thing to develop a player with traits and make him consistently great.. it's another thing to just take a kid top 15

And even then that doesn't always work because Sammy Watkins was supposed to be the best draft prospect at wide receiver in 15 years and look what happened... We got the best prospect and he busted

I never would have guessed that Mike Evans would become, by far, the best WR in that class, and a likely hall of famer while OBJ would become a journeyman on a slew of 1 year deals.

very few people actually wanted to trade up for him

This past offseason really humbled me on what NFL fans know.  I was fully out on D.Henry. Balt was def his best landing spot but it felt like an Eddie George to the Cowboys type signing.... or Zeke to the Pats. Old worn down, high $$, bad return. Pretty sure that seemed like the general thought process here (w/ exceptions of course).

I thought the Barkley money was absurd. seemed like a season tix seat filler, where hed have a solid season, and wouldnt move the needle. Hard L i took there.

B Thomas was intriguing to me early on, but several Gabe Davis comps from all around spooked me.  The one-trick pony criticism absolutely did. "Deepest class" added on to me thinking a trade up was silly.  This one was the least unanimous on this board with several nailing it.   Going into this year FA and draft class, I dont know which way is up.

Hopefully the Bills fade whatever I think we should do lol
