Groot might be out the door after 2025 … Im sure they will know before making the call on Garrett or Crosby if he wants to go to the market …. Are you ok with him for one more year only, or throw him in the trade ?

Just worry about 2025 is the camp I’m in.

Garrett and Groot will be the reasons (amongst the reasons high on the list anyway) the Bills win the SB or get dumped on by KC again. And if they lose again to KC, we won’t care what happens with Groot.

I wouldn’t say that.

Ed Oliver is quite movable post 6/1 and saves us another $14M.

Would I do something like a combo of picks/Ed to make moves for a Garrett AND a DK?

Yes.

Something like 2025 1st, 2025 2nd and 2026 first for Garrett, and a 2026 2nd, 2026 3rd + Ed for DK?

Yup.

I'd love to live in a world where I think we could get Myles Garrett and DK Metcalf in the same offseason. But with all due respect to you, that's *incredibly* unrealistic. I think you know that too.

I could get long winded as usual and list all the reasons this is unlikely. But instead of that, I'll just ask - when was the last time two trades of that magnitude were done by the same team in the same offseason? When was the last time you saw a team trade their 1st 2 picks that year and their 1st 3 picks the following year, in the same offseason in trades that didn't involve a QB?

And lastly I'd ask - do you think Brandon Beane would be so cavalier to do all of that?

Well I expect this to dominate the conversation for the next couple months. And I get it. Personally though I would invest in rebuilding the secondary before I would trade the farm for Garrett. Mahomes had an average time to throw of like 2.2 seconds in the AFCCG, only 1.77 seconds against man (if I'm remembering correctly). I don't care if Bruce Smith is rushing opposite of Reggie White, you aren't getting to the QB that fast. A player like Garrett would certainly raise our regular season ceiling and maybe put us in contention for the #1 seed so from that perspective I would understand it. I just don't think it's the move that will get us past the Chiefs in the playoffs. We need 3/4 of our secondary fixed and we need a downfield passing game. That would be my focus this offseason.

Why can’t you do both ? Buffalo has plenty of draft picks. If they give up a 1 and 2, they still have another 2nd and two more 4ths/5/6 along w/ free agency. They can easily address their remaining needs w/ those picks.

It's never happened.

But going 0-4 vs the same team in the playoffs has never happened until now.

Going 0-5 vs the same team also has never happened and there is quite a fear that it's about to happen.

Tbh, Beane doesn't have the guts to do both.  If he had the guts to do even 1, I would be shocked.

I think there's a more realistic middle ground to do a Garrett trade and find some mid-tier WR targets. I'd prefer to go big and go down swinging but Beane will likely feel more comfortable grabbing some solid rotation DL pieces and hoping Pat and Reid inexplicably fall apart.

Acquiring a guy like Myles Garrett puts the Bills sights firmly on a Super Bowl next season. Next off-season be damned. Just go win the ***** game.

Albert Breer of SI.com was asked about landing spot.  He rattled off some really odd choices including Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington and Detroit.

(See how easy it is to add context to a video?)

That sounds like Breer via his connections thinks Garrett wants to play in Texas (he’s from Texas) and the Browns prefer to trade him to the NFC.

Actually Myles and DK are quite gettable...do I think it would happen...probably not.  But its what I would also love to see happen and its not as unrealistic as you think.

Reality is Garret more than likely gets traded for a first and either a 2nd or 3rd.  But, given the Bills pick late, lets assume it has to be 2 first round picks.  I would pull that trigger in a heart beat because Garrett also only counts $5M against the cap this year, making him affordable to acquire and allowing us to still be aggressive in FA or trade for a WR (or another position) if we wanted to.

Now, WR's almost always get traded for a lot less than people think.  If Seattle was to move DK, its possible a 2nd could get the job done or a 2nd and some change like a 4th, 5th, or 6th.  Bills have two 2nd's this year and extra picks in rounds 4, 5, and 6 right now.  So lets say it cost us a 2nd and a 4th...we would still have picks in rounds 2 and 4 even after both trades.

Its not nearly as crazy as it seems...will Beane do it, probably not...but when you are on the doorstep to a Championship, this IS the time to make this kind of all in play.

Where did you get that number?

Maybe. But I saw very little opportunity for our pass rush to get home in the AFCCG because Mahomes was getting the ball out in 2 seconds. My take has been and continues to be that it will be on our offense to close out the game. That's how it's gone in our past three KC playoff matchups. Only in one of those did the offense finish the job if not for a bit of horrid coaching. The past two the offense had the ball last and couldn't get it done. So that's where my focus is. Everyone else is trying to change the whole game script. I'm saying the game script is written in stone with KC so you might as well find a way to win within that script. Myles Garrett will be on the sidelines watching with everyone else when Allen throws a fateful pass on 4th down. Will that pass's target be Tee Higgins or Nelson Agholor?

It's the same story for virtually everyone who plays Mahomes and Allen.   They don't get sacked.   Didn't the Eagles set the all-time sack record and then fail to sack Mahomes once in that SB 2 years ago?

But as you noted in another post, adding Garrett might be the difference between getting the #1 seed and the bye(for once) and playing on the road again.

I don't think this should be a one or the other situation.

They need to field a better defense in the other 19 games and then be able to move the ball thru the air when running is not an option late in games.

And I've said it before, but if there was ever an offseason where they might extend themselves a bit more to win a title, this should be it.   Everybody is back on the coaching staff, there aren't a lot of free agents to be concerned about........and there are PSL's to sell for that new stadium.   30 year commitments.  Nothing sells like hope.

He would also help tremendously in the 17 games , plus any other playoff games until we meet the Chiefs again.  It's no given that we get back next season. The defense needs Garrett.

Looking at OTC's cap table, we can easily get to like $30M in cap space this offseason and that's with me barely trying. I don't see any way we come away with Garrett and Metcalf. Unless I'm way off base on Metcalf's value the 2025 1st rounder would be mandatory. But I could see us coming away with Garrett and Higgins if Beane decides to push all his chips in. Paying top tier money to a QB, WR, and pass rusher not only should be possible but should be the goal for every franchise. In that scenario of course I'd be ecstatic that we made major upgrades on both sides of the ball. I just worry that Beane won't go that far. He'll make his one splash move and then add Darius Slayton and his usual band of overpaid depth players and call it a day.
