Myles Garrett requests a trade

I'm just looking at this from the Cleveland side.

 

How in the hell do they field a team with this trade.

When it does happen, the rest of the above average players are going to be pissed!

 

Currently they have $40M in dead cap with another $14M coming in void years on Wills and Winston.

Add $36M for Garrett that comes to $90M in dead cap.

 

Watson has a $73M cap hit in 2025.  That's $163M for Watson and Dead Cap!

PLUS they are currently $28M OVER the cap right now.

It will take two #1's and one #2 and perhaps more, but given our inability to draft high end talent, our draft position, and our ability to find very good talent later, to me you just do the deal for either him or Crosby.

 

I know people have different notions on how to best build this team. But at the end of the day you have to bother Mahomes if you expect to win. 

 

Mahomes record (playoffs included)

 

9-5 when being sacked 4 or more times 64%

80-16 when being sacked 2 times or less 83%

 

Buffalo has gotten to him 3 times just once in all the combined regular season and playoff games and we won that game.

 

He is 11-0 in the playoffs with 2 sacks or less.

id rather gamble and trade two firsts to move up in the draft and take a chance on a premiere rookie who will be under contract for a bit. This FO needs to hit on the DL.

There was another EDGE guy who got around that sack total annually. Bruce something. He impacted plenty of games.

 

I didn't say he's not impactful. I didn't say he wouldn't improve the Pass Rush. I'm saying the idea that Myles Garrett alone = guaranteed ring (which is what I was replying to and is a common sentiment) is an overexaggeration. It *could*. But it's talked about like a forgone conclusion. And there's far more we need to do than just add an Edge, even a great edge.

He would be, without a doubt, the most impactful defensive player on a snap to snap basis that Allen has ever played with.

 

He would also probably be the best defender Allen would ever play with for the remainder of his career.

 

Nothing guarantees a SB.  Allen himself doesn't guarantee one but he's the closest thing to it.  A player like Garrett is the second closest thing to it.

FFS, he turned 29 at the end of December. He's only five months older than Josh Allen.

Show me any two # 1's you would rather keep instead of having Myles Garret? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/buf/draft.htm

Maybe you would say Ed Oliver and Groot? But that would even be close. A ton of combinations exist that would be no brainers including Tre White who dealt with the same concern you have with Garret.  

 

When you invest in a certain level of performance the downward risk can be very large (Von). But when you're aren't willing to make that investment the potential of getting what you need can be very small (we still haven't after 5 top picks in the first 3 rounds). That is, a true game wrecker.

 

Either strategy has some merit but given our inability to draft game changing talent on the DL I would say go for it.

Garrett dominates while being double and triple teamed at a much higher rate then anyone else. Plus he has been hurt the last 2 years and played through it.  

 

He impacts games himself, and by opening up the game for everyone else.

Cleveland has a winning record against the Bengals and Ravens since Myles Garrett has been there...

 

14 and 12 over 26 games. Which is pretty wild given the difference in performance. 

 

He has 21.5 sacks in those games. He has been a major problem for two teams we will keep seeing and is labeled the Burrow killer.

Agreed we also need a NT/1 Tech DT and a CB opposite Benford just as starters. I'd also seek out a big nickel as think it's time to make Taron a true nickel CB as time slowly catching up to him. Toss in more depth in secondary, along the Dline and interior Oline.

As we have seen …there are no guarantees of anything … even with Josh Allen..

There is always going to be more to do with the roster ,,,do you think they will ever get it perfect ? How often is there an opportunity to add one of the best defensive players in the League …? 
 

Beane just literally told us last week … “There are not a lot of Chris Jones floating out there… would I like to add one of those guys ? Heck yeah”

 

Maybe we should be taking him at his word
