If he is traded, he is going to get a new contract with it.  He is "underpaid" with his current contract at this point.

Weren’t you saying yesterday that Cleveland won’t be trading him ?

24 hours is a long time in the NFL…

He is contracted for only two more years … so I would assume that whoever acquires him and gives up a bag of picks is going to want a new deal with a longer commitment

So for me it's not about the picks. It's about the money. Whatever money we'd give to Garrett, I would sign Tee Higgins and use remaining resources to add to the secondary. I really don't think Garrett is the player that gets us over the hump. His impact on the AFCCG I think would have been minimal. Having a go-to WR downfield however would have made a big. Having CBs and safeties that can man up would have given our DL more than 2 seconds to get home. I'm not interested in any major investment that doesn't fix the issues that lost us the AFCCG.

This is definitely a compelling argument. We do have more than one hole, but we also keeping saying we need more ELITE talent. I’m glad I don’t have to navigate all the options. I’ll just watch and wait until Beane puts his plan in place and watch everybody here explode!  😂

Upgrade RG ? Huh… O’Cyrus made a big year 2 leap and is on a rookie contract trending in the right direction, with him and Brown the Bills had one of the best right sides in all of football this year.

The dude does have some gas in the tank and he can still play..........it's not like we're the Cards of the late 90's and early 2000's, where players went to have their careers die peacefully.

We are a legit contender, so if it's feasible, then i say bring him in.

It's just making the cap numbers work and keeping our long term/short term goals reachable. As at 29 he likely has a few years left.

Totally agree...so many people around here always think some massive haul is coming in a trade then never happens.  Nobody is giving up what a lot of people here think it will take to get him.  A first and change is likely going to get the deal done.  1st and 3rd may be enough.

However, as a team as close to a SB as the Buffalo Bills, I wouldn't mess around personally.  With how late we pick, I would be fine sending our first this year and next year to insure we get a real difference maker.  I would feel better about that then trusting we will draft a real difference maker at any position with those picks.  Especially given Garetts cap hit this season is just $5M.  If Beane can get him cheaper, then even better, but I wouldn't risk getting out bid, especially by another contender because at that cap hit there will be a lot of teams who can afford him.

With such a low cap hit, Bills could still be active in FA or even remain active in the trade market.  If we could land Garrett at just $5M this year and then go make a play in FA or the trade market to get a WR like Higgins or Metcalf...we would be instant SB favorites next season.  Then address S and CB in FA and Draft and this team would be very scary next season.

When you are this close, especially as a team whose never gotten the job done, you start thinking about more short term all in moves.  Chiefs and Ravens aren't going anywhere and the AFC overall is going to be tough for a while.  Shoot your shot now Beane...guys like Garret are rare, go do for the defense what you did for the offense when you went and got Diggs at a time the offense sorely needed that kind of infusion.

Seattle traded two #1s for a safety.  Garrett is worth way more than 1 and 3.

Bills very likely going to be picking at 31 or 32 next year.  Time is now to mortgage the future before Beane and McD have no future with this team.

I’m telling you right now, because you are really good at this sort of thing.

Myles ain’t getting traded for more than 2 1sts. He just won’t be.

These guys don’t get traded for that much at that age.

If Myles was 2 years young he may get the Mack package, but he’s too close to 30 and too many different injuries.

Then he won’t be traded. Trading him for anything close to a late first plus some change is career suicide for Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski.

Dawkins is showing good hand placement with his hands inside the shoulders, but I still sense a flag coming for that.

Money/cap space.  Other teams have more of it.

Shush. There's no room for realism in this topic.

Myles Garrett will want a boat load of money in the same realm of what Von MIller got.  Miller's contract has hampered us a bit and they need to pay Josh.

i like Garrett but can any DE in the league produce 10 sacks in this defense?  The Bills don't blitz alot.  How many of Garretts sacks come from blitz vs. standard 4 man rush?

good thing we can cut Von post June 1, save over $7 million in cap, and $9 million dead cap, which could be spread over 2 years

- He’s one of the most charitable players in the NFL. He’s incredible off the field.

- He’s the reigning defensive player of the year and could be again. He’s in his prime.

- Crosby would be a great plan B. Garrett is certainly a better player.

- It’ll be more than a 1. How often do you get a chance to get the best defensive player in football?

He isn’t a “really good player.” He is one of the best ever and in his prime. You trade 4 quarters for a dollar every day.

The only knock against him is he has not been a locker room leader for the Browns.  He is very quiet and doesn't say much to his teammates.

Two other things...he crashed his car doing like 100MPH in a parking lot and missed a few games last year.  Still got paid.

And lastly are his feet.  He has some chronic feet issues that need to be vetted closely.  He didn't miss much or anytime this year but he was listed on injury report most of the year.

My dream scenario for the bills off-season Defense additions would be:

DE: Crosby or Garrett via trade

CB: Carlton Davis or DJ Reed or Paulson Adebo via free agency

DT: Deone Walker in Round 2 or 3 of draft

LB: Zack Baun or Nick Bolton in FA.

Yeah, I’m not giving up two first round picks (and this years second) for a defensive player. I know they’ll be late in the round, but I couldn’t justify that as GM. I know I’m in the minority here, so I don’t have much else to say on it, but that’s too costly imo.

So in the middle of the 1987 season we traded two firsts, a second, and RB Greg Bell to the Rams for the rights to Cornelius Bennett.

The Rams sent RB Eric Dickerson to the Colts as part of the deal, and the Colts gave us Bennett.  The Colts also gave the Rams their own 1st and two 2nds plus RB Owen Gill.

The Rams' boatload of picks (three firsts, three seconds) turned into the following:  Gaston Green, Aaron Cox, Fred Strickland, Cleveland Gary, Frank Stams, and Darryl Henley.  A few of them even turned into serviceable NFL players, but nowhere near the level of Dickerson or Bennett.  Bennett became a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time AFC Defensive Player of the Year, and played in five Super Bowls.

Would you like to reevaluate your position in light of this information?

I feel like every time Higgins is mentioned everyone immediately says no way we can afford him. But now every single Bills fan and analyst is desperate for us to trade for Garrett and give him probably the same type of money? I don't know how anyone watched that last game and thinks pass rush was our issue. I'm all for getting a 1st round EDGE on a rookie contract but it shouldn't be our flagship investment of the offseason IMO.

Screw all the picks and cap space.....go get Garrett and Crosby.

We've shown the offense we have can put up 30 a game with the guys we have.  Just go get 2 game wreckers on the defensive line and run the rest of it back.  Yes, it will screw up our cap situation in a few years, but you win a Super Bowl, nobody is going to care when you have to cut a bunch of guys and tank a year or 2 on purpose.  Just do it.  Take the swing.  Give us a 3 year window to get it done.  Whatever it takes and we'll live with the consequences.

And that’s why it is most likely that Garrett is not traded this offseason. He wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. He’s earned that and Cleveland is willing to do that for him. But he has two seasons left on his current contract - and could be tagged after that. People saying that he has “all the leverage” in this are wrong. Cleveland can make him play or retire. He can’t get a ring retired. And I doubt that he leaves 9 figures on the table.

Superstars always have the leverage when they ask for a trade now.   I guess you don't understand how it works.   This is basically a Matt Stafford in Detroit situation.  And Cleveland can look at that seemingly hideous trade and realize that there is always a way to re-build.
