I personally hope they draft 3 CBS and 2 safeties

What? Taron and Benford are studs

The personnel is NOT the issue with this defense. If you brought in a good DC right now, the currently constructed group would be lights out. The coaching of our defense is an inexcusable disgrace

I respectfully disagree.  DL, LB and secondary are not good enough talent wise.

We keep talking about DL, and yes we need an upgrade, but maybe we focus on the secondary instead?

We have one of the top nickle corners in the NFL, so why not load up on top DB talent and go that route?

Emphasize a big 1. Tech DT who can penetrate so he and Oliver can provide pressure up the middle, while we lock down other teams WR's?

I say let McDermott make the decisions on what DB'S he wants, not Beane as he is a DB whisperer.

Before you ping me negatively, think about it and cut me some slack...I have the freaking flu. Apparently Oklahoma is leading the nation in Flu cases right now. 😒

Didn’t we do this?

Or was 2 All-Pro safeties, an all-pro nickel, an all-pro off ball linebacker and an all-pro boundary CB not enough secondary talent?

I knew our D, especially the back end, was going to be shite this year. And yes it didn't diasappoint. Offense bails you until you face just as good of offenses and then it is a coin toss. We seem to always lose that flip. I'm done with undersized defense at LB CB S,  "that needs to play fast". Time for some thumpers at LB and S. AJ and Groot and even Oliver are shite too. Oliver undersized and that will never change. He only seems to make a highlight reel when he plays in Detroit or on Thanksgiving.  AJ and Groot, just kick me in the nutz with these two. What do they do switch off on having a few decent games, decent, not even great games. I'm not looking to bash everyone on defense (bernard, benford, douglas) but riddle me this - Did our D win us a game this year? A- no, they held on after letting teams get dangerously close. Never once did they secure a lead for the offense which scored points!!!!

So yes, D needs to change drastically, mimic Seattle or Baltimore (SB year), Eagles (you'll see this weekend) or the Josh Allen era will be know for wasted opportunities.

Bills forever!

We are close - remember this is supposed to be a down year. We expected Kincaid to step in becoming the leading weapon and go-to guy. It didn't happen. The season ending non-catch play by Kincaid is very fitting: close but not quite there (also remember had Kincaid made the catch, it does not mean the Bills would've won). But Cook stepped up big time. Based on Cook's trajectory in NFL, there is reason to believe he's not likely to step backwards like Kincaid. Also Brady as an OC showed his limit: an experienced "genius" OC like McVay/Peyton might had identified what was going on in the game much earlier and moved all the chips in Cook's direction.

But on defense I'd not use the word "close". Since the 49ers game, we all saw how easily opponents moved the ball on us, good or bad teams. It carried over to post season except against a rookie QB. That to me indicates a deeper issue on that side of the ball. We just had good fortune on turnovers through out the year.

So if you have X amount of resource to spend. Do you spend it on offense to make it improve from a 9 to 9.5 (10 being great) so that another guy in Kincaid's shoe can make that catch in the future, or if you spend it on defense to make it improve from a 5 to 7 even 7.5? Common sense says it is easier to spend it on D and it has much more room to improve.

If the Bills are taking pages out of someone from the NFC west, I'd do a bit of the Rams approach. Trading picks for proven commodities.

Beane isn't getting much from rounds 1 & 2 in the draft anyway.

That was the rams of yesteryear. Now? They’ve taken very good to high level defensive lineman early in the last two drafts (Fiske, Turner, Young, Verse). They’ve all seem to hit and are a dominant force.

I actually discussed that Seahawks team last week with another poster …it’s one of the most talented D’s we have seen in recent decades  … it wasn’t just  the secondary …although that was elite …

Here is an article about them …. Not easy to replicate …

I think they tried this approach already. Maybe if White didn't tear his ACL in New Orleans it would have worked.

I get your point. They need to hope Bishop blossoms and Benford can be a true #1 CB. They will probably go with Bishop and Rapp but I expect one veteran and one rookie to be added to the mix. Time to say goodbye to Hamlin.

At CB, I'm torn. Elam is a bust but there is little reason not to bring him to camp. He has zero trade value. Douglas wasn't that great all year but not terrible either. He should be easy to replace but hard to upgrade.

Get the DL right and I think McDermott will patch together a secondary.

My biggest fear is that Taron is in decline. There is no one one the roster that can replace him.

You're right. But it was the Rams team of yesteryear that did win a superbowl.

I was only half serious. I want to build through the draft. I was just pointing out that Beane hasn't done well in the first 2 rounds. That's where you're supposed to be getting your probowl level players.

That's pretty obvious.

Rasul Douglas and Damar Hamlin are both Free Agents. So we'd need to find a new Starting CB and a new Starting Safety (unless they decide to roll with Cole Bishop).

And on the line, Daquan Jones is toast. They need a new 1T. And hopefully an upgrade from Epenesa - preferably Groot moving to his spot for a year with a stud DE in Groot's spot).

I'd like a secondary that plays "proactive" and not "reactive", but you need guys with experience to be able to play that way........guys who have the experience to be able to read QB's eyes, tendencies, etc. and be able to project what play is coming or where the ball is going.

We play way too much "reactive" ball and give up a ton of yardage due to our "bend, but don't break" philosophy and in the long run when you want to tighten things up in the post season, i don't know how you can possibly win like this.

Bend don't break works all day long during the regular season against weaker opponents.  You might even get away with it against a 6 or 7 seed w/c team. But divisional round and on it's a joke thinking it'll work.

I get it, Mahomes is a freak who releases the ball in 2.2 seconds. I still believe that in order for McDermott's "not so great" defensive philosophy to work, you gotta start at the DL.  Sean has had 8 full seasons and drafts to find 1 great or elite Dlineman.  And he's failed.  The desperate Von signing validated that failure.  So now I honestly expect the Bills to amp up the DL upgrade search with a bolder and more expensive move than the Von signing.  It's full steam ahead for Garrett or Crosby.

The Seahawks became the Seahawks back then by having two or three really good drafts in a row. It wasn't just the secondary. They got a lot of good players on both sides of the ball.

Well, they did have a RB they didn't draft.

The Seahawks hired a college coach who excelled at selecting players from the Pac-12. The Bills should have hired Harbaugh to capitalize on Big Ten prospects. Instead, we stayed the course and ended up with Coleman.

Key variable here: "they've all seemed to hit" you sure you want to bank on Beane's ability to hit on a day 1/2 DLine pick? Basham, AJ, Carter... Oliver at #9...

Come on!! Just illogical nonsense in your initial point, making you sound like Nick Wright or, worse, Shannon Sharp, especially the latter, with zero basis in fact, reality there.

Yup, the Bills are just good against weaker opponents--beat the #1 AFC seed this season, the only team to do so, beat the #1 NFC seed, in their own stadium, dominated the Broncos in the playoffs, shoot did they even threaten to score after that first TD?, beat the powerhouse, going to smash the Bills to smithereens Ravens in the divisional round...

And you can go on and on, and do the same thing for the last season.

Almost all would agree the Bills need an influx of talent on the d-line, and a few other key defensive players.

But your first line above is a joke, complete BS.
