Had Kincaid caught the 4th down pass and we go on to score with let’s say 50 seconds left. Do you think the chiefs wouldn’t score again? We’ve all seen it. Not only does Allen have to score on the last drive to take the lead, but he also has to do it with under 8 seconds on the game clock. There’s a tremendous pressure on him to be perfect because the defense is barely competent. That was a bit of the problem in this last game. Too many 3 and 4th downs that he had to execute to perfection. He literally had no room for error. And when he does do amazing and scores on 4th down…. The defense let KC move right down the field and score again without so much as making Mahomes break a sweat. At some point.. the McD has to own up to his failing as a defensive-minded head coach. And Beane has to own up to not getting a single difference maker on defense since he’s been here. If Bass made that fg last year there’s probably a 90% chance of Mahomes driving KC down for the go ahead TD and probably a 99% chance of at least a fg to tie. One way to look at it is the Bills defense not being good enough. Another way to look at it is Mahomes is hard to stop in the playoffs when the game is on the line. Look at this last Sunday’s game. The defense, as pushovers as they’ve been all game, actually MADE a stop with 3:33 to go. The offense and Allen had to come through at that point. At least tie up the game. They couldn’t even get to midfield despite starting on the 30. The defense has to play better but so does the offense. Especially in situations when the game is on the line. I’d love for the narrative to be Allen won’t be denied with the ball and a chance to win. But that narrative won’t happen if we keep coming up short in those situations. Quote

Add in that his defense has failed in the playoffs year after year, I don't see how all of a sudden it's going to change at this point. For a coach that's supposed to be a defensive coach, his scheme hasn't changed a whole lot. You never see the Bills defense run anything like what KC did on the last play. 1 Quote
Mister Defense Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Just now, Sojourner said: Love the positivity. It’s insane that we went from a rebuild year, to fire and cut everyone, to we are on the upswing, to we are the best to our team except Josh, our OTs and Cook suck again. We had a great season and should be proud of it. Super Bowl or bust this year. If not, let the heads roll! You know, that’s probably what bothers me the most about that game… The offense was weird on a lot of plays. No pivoting from their standard go to. You’re playing the best of the best in the playoffs. Execution has to be perfect. Brady was a damn fine OC but a lot of the failings go on his shoulders for some of those calls. People give him a pass but the guy was on his way to possibly being a HC until he closed the door, hopefully he’s learned. Yes, I feel the same, and especially about the bold above. To me the most under under utilized part of the Bills this year was their great stash of running backs. Cook was not just a fast and elusive running back with good vision anymore, but an elite running back, with much more power and elite vision. And it seems almost every time Johnson has touched the ball since he has been here it has been a very positive play that helped to move the sticks. While Davis almost disappeared in his touches after demonstrating he too looks like a top tier back, fast as well, but a little MJD like bulldozer, who can also catch the ball very well. I was hoping, as I have been saying almost all year in the prediction threads, that in this game the running backs stable would take over, and that would open up the passing game. It didn't happen, though it clearly could have if the Bills tried it--the Chiefs could not stop Cook, so throw in the others more too and it is a different game. Josh had said before the first playoff game that they were basically not going to reinvent the wheel, and instead do what what brought them here. But in the first two games that was not the case, as they did some things very differently to beat those specific teams. So I said his earlier words were a smokescreen to masque their true intentions--add, subtract, and change wherever it was needed. But against the Chiefs they were too static, did not do mix things up. Cannot do that against a great team, great coaching. Next year Brady opens things up, as he takes the next step. Does anyone not expect this guy to get better in his second full year as OC, after a superb first full year? 1 Quote

Last year and this year the offense had the ball with a chance to win with a TD or tie with a fg and couldn’t do either. The defense has to play better but so does the offense in those situations. All this talk about Allen playing better against KC reminds me of that old bible verse: “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” The "beam" is the Bills D while the mote is any deficiency in Allen's play. Why can’t both be better? Listen to Beane’s press conference. He would take the same situation again with Allen having the ball with 3min left and a chance to win. No matter what has happened up to that point the ball is in your elite QB’s hands to win. Those are scenarios that define elite QBs. Gotta come through. Our general lack of a deep threat and the fact that the defenses get better the further you go in the playoffs are a bigger factor. Defenses basically have taken away his running game and our OC’s haven’t adjusted well at all. Look no further than 1-4 on the rush push. Bottom line, our defense gets worse and opposing defenses get better. This is overall a personnel and coaching issue Everybody’s defense gets better but ours. Ours get worse. 1 1 Quote

Those are scenarios that define elite QBs. Gotta come through. Can’t keep saying it’s everything else. Allen has shown the ability to get better each and every year he's been in the NFL. This season his remarkable reduction in TO's was the reason the Bills exceeded expectations. In the last 2 playoff losses to the Chiefs the Bills had the ball inside 3 minutes trailing the Chiefs by a FG. Last season the Bills missed a relatively easy FG and this season they dropped a pass that would have converted a 4th down. Sorry but this is not saying "it's everything else" it's pointing out the simple fact that outside of Allen no one appears to step up in these close playoff losses. Sure, Allen can play even better but is that a reasonable expectation? In the last two playoff losses to the Chiefs the failure of anyone else to really step up has cost the Bills those games. Clearly the #1 factor has been the poor play of the defense in both games. The #2 factor IMO has been the failure of the coaches and other players not named Allen to step up and make an outsized impact. 1 Quote

On 1st down Allen airmailed his pass over the middle. Kincaid was open on the outlet. Hit that on 1st down and the sequence would’ve been a lot easier. Quote

Yes.. i thought as most people probably did.. Allen was going to do this. My only concern was.. i hope he doesn't leave any time on the clock! But that's my point. Our defense against KC is so bad, that we all celebrate when they stopped KC for only a FG to take the win. That we all hope it doesn’t come down to the offense scoring with more than 13seconds on the clock. That we had no time to breathe between series because they let the chiefs right back in it with each score Allen made. That's tremendous pressure on Allen and the offense to be perfect. .. to not just score, but score touchdowns, to not just score touchdowns but do it while draining the clock. That's not playing complimentary football to steal a line for coach. How many times did they go for it when they could have punted and played defense? Or could have tried a FG? But we all knew… they have to score a touchdown because KC will if they get the ball back. Anyone even beginning to talk about Allen and the offense is completely under appreciating the level of pressure that is Edited 3 hours ago by Dan 1 Quote

He’s rounding out to be a complete quarterback. He can be better. He started this game off very shaky on that first drive. Nerves got to him. This is something he can work on for next year. He seems to get too hyped for big important games. I think this will be another stepping stone for bigger things to come. 1 Quote

I thought we were going the superbowl when the offense took the field. If you didn’t think that was a win for the defense I’m not sure what football game you were watching. Look at what you're saying here - it was a big win for the D that they held KC to a chip shot FG AFTER the Bills had tied the game in the 4th quarter. I'll tell you what a "win" for the D would have been, force a KC punt to give the Bills the ball back with the score tied. That you would even consider holding the Chiefs to a FG instead of a TD a "win" is just proof of how low you have set the bar for the Bills D. And as far as Allen's big moment, well there is nothing Allen can do if those around him don't also rise to the occasion: * First off, the coaches decided not to have the Bills most dangerous offensive skill player (not named Allen) on the field for that last drive. * Second, the Bills dropped the pass that would have converted the 1st down and likely seen Allen lead the Bills to a remarkable last possession win. So if the one person who has stepped up on offense is not on the field and a TE can't make a 4th down catch that most NFL receivers make is Allen's fault then we'll just have to agree to disagree here. 1 Quote
SCBills Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Nick Wright on with Big Cat tried saying Josh would only have 1 Super Bowl trophy if he switched places with Mahomes because Mahomes had bad Defenses during the years until recent.
