Trading for Cooper is actually on point. He seems to make a trade near the draft almost every year. More times than not it's been a move for an offensive player that doesn't work out well. And the last two (Cooper and Hines) offensive players we traded for were very underused. Again on point. 

He traded for Rasul Douglas, and he became an impact starter.

THAT is what is angering me (and others).

 

There is a lot of nuance that is missing when it's summed up like this though. 

 

They legitimately haven't "run it back" for all intents and purposes for years.

 

They have had different OC's basically every year.

Same with DC.

Our personnel gets poached almost annually.

They haven't had the same players available (sometimes due to the very logical yet often maligned reason of injury)

Different players have let this team down in crucial scenarios back to back years (whether elite or not).

 

Essentially they've been in a situation where they have consistently won while mired in inconsistency.

 

Yes the organization has its shortcomings and faults; however they are sensationalized when you're literally the only team in direct comparison and competition with a modern day dynasty that barely has to deal with any inconsistency; paired with an all time winning, certified HOF HC/OC.

 

It's not the easiest task to just overcome that. 

It's frustrating but that's the reality of the situation. 

 

We still are the team that has the best chance to overcome that and I believe we will.

Douglas made a nice impact last year. Was fairly mediocre this year.

They get credit for Allen.  And he is why they're still here.  That's not meant as a huge insult either.. if you don't have an elite QB, unless your name is Mike Tomlin, you have a limited shelf life as a GM/HC.

 

They drafted Josh 7 years ago.  The NFL is, as all pro sports are, a what have you done for me lately league.  And lately, Buffalo's top picks have been mediocre.  

 

Still haven't drafted and developed a boundary receiver during their tenure.  And yet, here we are talking about WR separation...which is why Josh got battered earlier in the season and requires him being plunged into the pile multiple times a game.

 

It's all noise until they prioritize receivers and the offense in general above the defense.

We are just happy to be there. It’s just all the good things and no addressing the real issue. It’s to bad none of the reporters had the balls to just say why can other teams stop the chiefs and we can’t? Go ahead and try and spin that positively any way you can. It’s just a mic drop end of story. Why can the raiders stop them? They are horrendous. Why is it only McDermotts defense that can’t ever make the chiefs punt?

A team... that was expected by many pundits to finish 3rd in the division... went to the AFC championship and almost knocked off a dynasty (7 AFC championships in 7 seasons is ridiculous)... and people want to fire the coach that got them there, and the GM who put the team together.

 

I don’t think anyone wants to fire anyone for what they’ve done.   I believe the instinct arises from a loss in confidence in what they can do.     I’m sensitive to this.  Occasionally the skill to get to the finish line and the skill to cross it are found in different people.

 

McDermott appears not to have lost the room.   Watch Allen this off season and next.

my worry all year was how thin the wr room was and by proxy how often Josh would need to be Superman 

 

I sure would love the perk of still scoring a ton during the regular season with him taking half the hits- and then come January be able to really reach into the bag of tricks, like you see KC do

Never forget... pretty much everyone on this board wanted to trade up and get Brian thomas Jr, we would have only needed to trade up about 5 spots - the trade equivalent of a 3rd round pick or basically what we traded for Cooper. 

 

So instead of cooper+coleman , we could have BT Jr.

Yeah I am extremely disappointed with how he ended the season. After the stretch of Tennessee and Seattle I was ready to take a victory lap over my support of him because it looked like he had really started to figure things out. But he ended the season playing worse than he did in game one. Hopefully we can chalk it up to the injury but it's concerning to see a player regress that much and never turn their trend line back around.
