Forget about Salary Cap and Picks

McDs 13 seconds of idiocy, Beane’s inability to draft ANY defensive stars, Special Team failures in critical moments, a few questionable & incorrect calls by the Refs and mix in a tiny dollop of Allen misfires and you have the loser stew we have.

 

Anybody watching any of these games see that the prime culprit is a Defense that can do neither- aggressively rush and sack the QB; nor cover ANYBODY… down field, coming out of the backfield, anywhere!
 

Clearly, Allen gets the job done in a range from very acceptable - record breaking on Offense. The D coughs it up… every KC time!

 

They were 29th on the critical 3rd Down coverage, as exemplified by Mahomes last pass on 3rd and 9! NINE!

 

So Beane needs to get at least one side or the other- superlative edge rushers or coverage that is close… like in the TV picture as the Pass hits the Receiver.

 

And if the absolute busts of Knox, Kincaid, Coleman & Cooper are not viewed positively going forward… get Tee Higgins!

Based on Beane & McDermott yesterday, I would almost expect we go after someone like Crosby this offseason.

That said, they also don't have Josh Allen and with him cancelling out Patrick Mahomes, the main difference between their postseason defense and ours has been health, Spags and Chris Jones.

 

We have to, at least, find our Chris Jones this offseason... and all the smoke points to Maxx Crosby.  Dexter Lawrence, if we could make a move for him, would also make a lot of sense next to Ed Oliver.. essentially upgrading our DT position in two spots by upgrading one.

You sign and pay those guys, not trade them.   Right?   Why would they even answer the phone?

They only do this if they recognize they’re in a multi-year rebuild and Crosby asks them to trade him to a contender.

 

He all but made it clear this is on the table in his interviews as their season ended. 
 

If he plays good soldier, it would take someone in their FO recognizing it’s not fair to him to keep him around during a rebuild and also makes sense to gets quality picks that are more in line with their rebuild.

I’d like to see a complete outsider come in and rework the defense. Think (Vic Fangio, Jim Schwartz, Mike Pettine, etc) I know those guys specifically are probably out of the question obviously but I want a total new voice to be in charge of the defense. I do not want to watch another season of the soft shell, passive zone defense. I want a guy that sets the tone and makes QBs uncomfortable. This scheme has been figured out. Please change it. The good QBs have to much time and the good offenses move the ball at will on us.

I am today reading that Crosby is now enamored with Pete Carroll and that Brady will not let Crosby go anywhere.   So looks like Crosby is off the radar ...

It’s actually KC hasn’t been called for holding in the last 3 Super Bowls I believe. I know it’s the last 2 for sure but I think it might be 3. 
 

So basically you can’t get to Mahomes for the most part because the refs won’t call it.

Hendrickson is the only possibly. I know the Bengals GM hinted that they can pay everyone.  But it’s very much a situation like Von Miller.  They’d trading assets and signing a 31+ year old player to a multi-year deal.  
 

I don’t believe Simmons or Lawrence are on the trade block.

Agree.  Get what we need in the draft.  In the KC game, our offense played one of their worst performances of the year, probably because the Ravens game took a lot out of us.  If we don’t get a game wrecker on defense through a trade, we will be alright.  We were close this year.  We had the team to win, but our performance was subpar.  Our team will be different next year, and hopefully it will be as good or better.
