Billsatlastin2018 Posted Friday at 03:09 PM Posted Friday at 03:09 PM (edited) McDs 13 seconds of idiocy, Beane’s inability to draft ANY defensive stars, Special Team failures in critical moments, a few questionable & incorrect calls by the Refs and mix in a tiny dollop of Allen misfires and you have the loser stew we have. Anybody watching any of these games see that the prime culprit is a Defense that can do neither- aggressively rush and sack the QB; nor cover ANYBODY… down field, coming out of the backfield, anywhere! Clearly, Allen gets the job done in a range from very acceptable - record breaking on Offense. The D coughs it up… every KC time! They were 29th on the critical 3rd Down coverage, as exemplified by Mahomes last pass on 3rd and 9! NINE! So Beane needs to get at least one side or the other- superlative edge rushers or coverage that is close… like in the TV picture as the Pass hits the Receiver. And if the absolute busts of Knox, Kincaid, Coleman & Cooper are not viewed positively going forward… get Tee Higgins! Edited Friday at 03:09 PM by Billsatlastin2018 Quote

He’s just setting expectations low. Saying he’s looking to make a big move would put him at a disadvantage when chasing high dollar FAs. It would also lead to incessant questions until it happens and criticism if it doesn’t come to fruition. It’s just typical GM speak. You could be right, we shall see. He didn’t say anything about trades so that is probably where he’ll be fixing on imo. 1 Quote

Expecting guys to get home isn’t realistic. Truly, you need to blitz. A lot. That’s the answer. Get up tight on WRs when the ball comes out fast and confuse them with blitzes. You are NOT going to get there with 4. It’s not 1975. The Qb is getting rid of the ball in 2 sec. That’s why this defense sucks. The guy is stuck in a different era. Those pass rushers will be neutralized. You need to send pressure and confuse the QB. The scheme Is the problem McDermott has never been blitz happy because it usually calls for man coverage. Quote
transplantbillsfan Posted Friday at 04:24 PM Posted Friday at 04:24 PM Based on Beane & McDermott yesterday, I would almost expect we go after someone like Crosby this offseason. And Crosby isn't a consolation prize. Dude's a stud 1 1 Quote

I don't care about salary cap and I don't care much about draft picks. Do what it takes to get Garrett out of Cleveland or at the very least Crosby out of Vegas. Crosby, I think will cost a little less but we have to take a swing. On top of that, Khalil Mack is a free agent. Again, I don't care about Salary cap and I don't trust finding the right player in the draft. We have already tried this numerous times and it isn't working. I would feel better with a known commodity. I know it's a long shot that we sign both. But if I'm Beane, I'm taking a swing on both. If we give up 2 first round picks for Garrett, I don't care. If there is a player to do that for, he is the guy. Crosby would probably be at least 1 first round pick. Make the moves, get to Mahomes and that's it. We will never get past them if we don't And yet, if our offense, directed by the genius Joe Brady, can put together a scoring drive on the last possession, with 3:30 and two time outs, we’d be preparing for the Super Bowl right now. 2 Quote

That said, they also don't have Josh Allen and with him cancelling out Patrick Mahomes, the main difference between their postseason defense and ours has been health, Spags and Chris Jones. We have to, at least, find our Chris Jones this offseason... and all the smoke points to Maxx Crosby. Dexter Lawrence, if we could make a move for him, would also make a lot of sense next to Ed Oliver.. essentially upgrading our DT position in two spots by upgrading one. Teams trading their top defensive player makes no sense at all. Not going to happen. Crosby, Lawrence, Garrett are unique and not replaceable. You sign and pay those guys, not trade them. Right? Why would they even answer the phone? Quote

They only do this if they recognize they’re in a multi-year rebuild and Crosby asks them to trade him to a contender. He all but made it clear this is on the table in his interviews as their season ended. If he plays good soldier, it would take someone in their FO recognizing it’s not fair to him to keep him around during a rebuild and also makes sense to gets quality picks that are more in line with their rebuild. 2 Quote

I’d like to see a complete outsider come in and rework the defense. Think (Vic Fangio, Jim Schwartz, Mike Pettine, etc) I know those guys specifically are probably out of the question obviously but I want a total new voice to be in charge of the defense. I do not want to watch another season of the soft shell, passive zone defense. I want a guy that sets the tone and makes QBs uncomfortable. This scheme has been figured out. Please change it. The good QBs have to much time and the good offenses move the ball at will on us. 1 1 2 Quote

He quoted it wrong. It’s actually KC hasn’t been called for holding in the last 3 Super Bowls I believe. I know it’s the last 2 for sure but I think it might be 3. So basically you can’t get to Mahomes for the most part because the refs won’t call it. Quote

Particularly, Lawrence or Simmons as neither of those teams are going anywhere soon. They would instantly change the entire dynamic of the D. Unfortunately, Beane has missed on multiple picks in the draft. If the Bills can somehow find a disruptor on the DL and a ball hawk in the secondary, it would dramatically alter their D! Easier said than done but they have 10 picks in the upcoming draft. Hendrickson is the only possibly. I know the Bengals GM hinted that they can pay everyone. But it’s very much a situation like Von Miller. They’d trading assets and signing a 31+ year old player to a multi-year deal. I don’t believe Simmons or Lawrence are on the trade block. Quote

In the KC game, our offense played one of their worst performances of the year, probably because the Ravens game took a lot out of us. If we don’t get a game wrecker on defense through a trade, we will be alright. We were close this year. We had the team to win, but our performance was subpar. Our team will be different next year, and hopefully it will be as good or better. Quote
