Forget about Salary Cap and Picks

What does it matter when KC and… well… everybody can hold against DL and it’s rarely / never called? We could have Lawrence Taylor, Bruce, and Reggie White and I don’t think it wouldn’t really matter.
 

Zero penalties on them in the last two SBs. 
 

ZERO.

 

League directive is to not call penalties on the Golden Child’s team unless it’s egregious. This is the WWF.

McDermott's scheme is a real winner against most teams, especially teams who don't have an elite QB or have a rookie. We seem to struggle against the elite teams OC/QB combo on defense. This year our offense played to help the defense. We need much better talent at some spots, and as you say the ability to knock passing games off timing. That has been the strategy since the beginning of time with these really good QBs and passing games. They'll slice and dice you eventually if they get in rythymn.

Another issue is like with Detroit this year, Glenn plays the style we're talkin about to the extreme other way. When injuries hit you run short on guys who can cov er.

Spags D is very personnel dependent.  KC has more talent on defense than the Bills do to be able to make it work. 

 

Last 3 playoff games against the Chiefs the combines score is 95-89.  The Chiefs are 6 points better against what most would consider a clearly inferior defense in terms of both personnel and coaching. Is Spags really that great?

Mahomes doesn’t even have a left tackle at all and has a bad right tackle. Yet, he was carving us up by getting rid of the ball to the fastest player in league history in 1.6 seconds. Lawrence Taylor could not get home in 1.6 second.

You could almost just play Beane's end of year press conferences on repeat from prior years . Doesn't seem to ever be any real accountability.  They'll likely fire Smiley and we'll be having the same discussions around this time next year.

I think this is a great idea. Go ahead and mortgage draft picks. Trade and get good players who want to win now, instead of letting their careers pass them by.

 

I don't know if the Bills will do this, but it's a good idea.

Haha, who stops KC "all the time actually" ? Cincinnati, Tampa and New England 1x each?

I don't think they have a chance at Simmons or Dexter, although that would be great. They could however get Crosby maybe and a vet like that DT in Miami then hopefully land  Grant or Walker in the draft. Doesn't look to be a high quality draft for the 2ndary.

Some of your points are well taken especially that we shouldn’t use the cap as an excuse not to take a big swing. First big decision is extending Rousseau. He showed growth and production in the regular season. Problem is he’ll want top 10 average per season, and he got stuffed against KC. I guess you need to get to the post season before thinking about KC. Miller, must leave immediately. Crosby loves Josh and seems like a perfect fit. If Carter and Smoot make strides along side Oliver, and we could add a Crosby, it might be enough. Beane would be reluctant to give up a first and you know Pete Carroll, would play hardball to trade his best player.

Facts! But the reality is that the system is the problem. We could have some.of those big names and I still feel like they would underperform in this defense. I got torched on here for saying we had JAGS on our d-line after we beat Denver and im not disputing that we need a Garret/Crosby type,but Beane ain't spending his precious draft capital that he uses on JAGS  to get a Garret.

What are you confused about? The chiefs scored 30 points 0 times this year. Stops as in stops their offense from scoring. What I’m saying is in English

The Texans DL put Mahomes under a lot of pressure 2 weeks ago …the most I have seen anyone do to him in a couple of years …Unfortunately they left Kelce open all day

 

I would like to see the Bills  aspire to something similar to the Texans … but they seem to prefer a different style of play for their DL

Yeah, especially since we are the only team to beat them so far this year. That is conveniently forgotten by many. 

 

People get overly emotional and it clouds their view sometimes. Yes, we lost to the Chiefs. No, we do not suck and we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic going into next season.

While the cap can be manipulated at times, you can’t just say “forgot about the cap”.   Take a look at Diggs huge dead cap hit for this past season as a perfect example.
