I woke up to the news this morning, and I said to my wife, somehow this will be blamed on trump firing people.

Remember, the same people who didn't wait five minutes to blame the orange dude for a aviation tragedy also blamed the same orange dude for the events that led to this...

Oh people don't like it?  They sure loved it during the LA fires. Obviously I don't know or our highly doubt trump had anything to do with this.

Are you suggesting the LA fires were intentional, as this act appears to be?

You woke up and and found out nearly 70 people died and this was the first  thing you thought?

I won't blame Trump for this unless or until something comes out that it points back to him (which I highly doubt will happen so relax). But what I will say is I will not be surprised if things of this nature or other issues occur from trying to cut the federal govt back to just trump and his yes men. We all hate govt bloat and waste. But a lot of the services are in place for a reason!

It took me 2 years to get disability. I paid into SS for 40 years and you can't fake what I got. Cut that staff back more, how much longer will that take? Some might not care or laugh until you need a service that you paid into your whole life. And yes I know SS is done at the state level but it is a federal program and I'm just using it as an example.

This country needs more air traffic controllers not less.

You think this is new? I didn't become a cop when I was young because of this. If I was black I would have been a retired cop by now.

Just wondering your thoughts on how a collision can occur, especially in the area where it happened.  Maneuvering aircraft in/around busy air space goes on the pile of things I know nothing about, and the pile is growing.

I have posted in the Off the Wall forum, as this is not political.

But one thing absolutely certain, and of political nature about the FAA.

They are an immensely quota hiring and promotion organization.

They have also spent an incredible amount of time, energy and resources on stupid non productive projects, like de-gendering pronouns in the aviation lexicon and forcing their people to attend all kinds of stupid training regarding social issues.

Theyre already calling this the Donald Disaster. What a mess!

Who cares if the FAA director resigned or not because that's not going to lead to operational changes or impact in a couple days. Everyone is still going to work and doing their jobs. And just how many planes did the FAA director guide to safe landings and takeoffs last year? I think its safe to say zero.

My thoughts wander to why is the military conducting a "training exercise" in heavy trafficked civilian air space? And is "training mission" really the standard cover story for not revealing a sensitive operational mission?

This investigation is going to require cooperation from civilian aviation and military authorities and organizations so don't bet on getting 100% of the facts.

They weren't conducting a training exercise.

They call all standard flights "training missions, " because they are.

Nothing unusual about this.

Cooperation among military and civilian aviation folks is standard and thorough.

Nothing secret about any of this.

Trump fires heads of TSA, Coast Guard and guts key aviation safety committee

Could we please reinstate the DEI and alphabet teams?

Not sure if this is sarcasm but there should not have been anyway anyone in the control tower allowed that helicopter anywhere near the flight path. No one in that tower just started as an air traffic controller, anyone in DCA has been an ATC for a decade at a minimum. This is entirely on the helicopter pilot most likely, if an ATC was ok with them being there then that person needs to be investigated for criminal neglect

Don't bother to ask yourself WHY this country would have ever needed affirmative action/DEI hiring practices, and just focus on the problems it may have caused.  Isn't that called gaslighting?  60 years ago, the GQP was fighting to keep POC out of their schools and bathrooms(much like they're doing today).

I believe the ATC gave the chopper pilot the heads up about the plane's approach.

The (really) old heads around my neck of the woods have some stories that would blow people's minds about the big pushes for diversity (read: more female and minority police) that tore through the academies back in the day.
