Dude isn’t living up to the bill on a team friendly price. $20m+ is unjustifiable for a quality run setting edge. Even then, he wasn’t that great at containing and holding the edge in the biggest game of his life. You want to pay him more? Shakir. Definitely. Dude has a knack for catching and getting yards. Reminds me of a Maurice Jones-Drew but WR form. Small, compact and is trying to go through defenders. Love to see it. Cook absolutely got himself an extension over the last season if not the playoffs alone. One of few guys who showed up to the highest requirement for playoff football. Benford? He’s decent. I don’t agree with a lot of our fans who pencil him in as this stud CB. But would definitly extend him as it stands for the right price. Bernard? Another quality season back to back but missed some games. What are you paying him on an extension is the question. You can’t pay him and Milano $10m+ a year. So it’s either a drastic reduction for Milano and pay Bernard or you let one of them go. I tend to agree with you on Groot. I was projecting what they will do, not necessarily what I’d want them to do. I picked those two players because of their positional value to Beane. It is no doubt two areas they value. We’ve seen turnover at the other positions, but I believe they’ll pony up for these guys (right or wrong). 1 Quote

I like Groot, think he’s decent but at that position and that price you need someone who is elite or right on the cusp of it. Especially for McD’s defensive schemes. Your projection is probably right and something I agree on. Can’t see them not spending it on him. The only question is, does it become like Termaine where they don’t extend him prior to the end of the option and other teams can make him an offer? Hopefully because that should price him out of Buffalo. 1 Quote

TFBillsfan Posted yesterday at 02:16 AM Posted yesterday at 02:16 AM Swing big? What would a realistic trade look like for Dexter Lawrence or Jeffrey Simmons? NYG or TN aren’t winning anytime soon. 3 1 Quote

Sign Ojulari whilst you’re at it seeing as he’s hitting the FA market. might be out priced though. Quote
GASabresIUFan Posted yesterday at 02:22 AM Posted yesterday at 02:22 AM Don’t be surprised if Smoot returns. He can play most DL positions inside and out and I think Beane and McD like him. As to Phillips, he likes Buffalo and the Bills like him as well, but I’m not sure how much is left in the tank. He would be a great community outreach executive. 1 Quote

BillMafia716ix Posted yesterday at 02:37 AM Posted yesterday at 02:37 AM There is no must signs on that list IMO. Logically I think they bring back Hollins, Gilliam and Ferguson 1 Quote

Who does Beane see as a priority? Groot Benford Bernard Shakir Cook These moves will mold the future. Which of these guys do we see locked up long term? Which will hit their contract year playing out their final deal? My guess if they extend Groot and Benford, Shakir would be the next one on my list. I think they’ll play out Cook and Bernard. I'd extend none of them early. Groot is the only one I would even seriously consider but I think I want him playing for a big contract to see if he can find that next level he hasn't been able to reach yet. Trade for or sign a veteran WR1 and then acquire or draft some quality DL early in the draft. Then get a RB(great RB draft) and a slot WR and some DB's on day 3 to start prepping to replace Cook, Shakir and Benford if they don't kill it in their walk years. 2 Quote
DapperCam Posted yesterday at 03:39 AM Posted yesterday at 03:39 AM Bernard, Groot, Shakir, Cook and Benford all worry me when it comes to extensions. They are the type of players that don't necessarily deserve huge contracts and you could get burned if you commit too much. But at the same time, if you let them walk it might be hard to find a replacement for their spot on the roster, so you've just created a hole. We swung and missed with decisions to commit too much to Knox and possibly Oliver. Arguably Milano too because he's been injured a lot. Benford and Bernard have both been injury-prone so something to consider. If Beane can get friendly contracts I would sign all of them, but if they are asking for top-5 in their position free agent money, I probably let them walk. Quote
Brianmoorman4jesus Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM I’d sign Diggs back before we brought Cooper back. Guy was a zero. Hollins for the right price. Ty Johnson too but I’d assume we want to start to use Gore Jr. Ferguson will be back. Alec Anderson too. The rest can walk. We good. 1 Quote

Big Groot fan but he lacks the product to be earning $20m+ a year sadly. If you can have him for $12-15m this off-season on an extension, sure but anything nearing that 20m or above mark and you allocate the same money on a proven guy looking for his next contract. Be that another DE, WR or CB. It has to be one of those positions. Whichever one you spend the money on you pivot the draft for the other two. 1 Quote

sven233 Posted yesterday at 04:35 AM Posted yesterday at 04:35 AM None of these guys are a slam dunk easy decision as to what to offer. Would love to have them back, but at what price? Groot - Always starts strong and makes you think he's going to break the bank. Then, while still making the occasional play, for the most part disappears from making super impactful plays for long periods of time. A nice player that can dominate a game here and there, but not a season. What is that worth? Anything over $15 million I think I have to wait and see what happens. Benford - Had a nice season. His stats and grades look great. But is he a true shut down CB? I am not sure about that. Throw in the fact that the last image we have of him is him looking totally out of it after his 2nd concussion in 2 weeks. Head injuries are bad. Do we really want to commit big money to a CB that might be completely done if he takes another shot to the head? It's a tough decision. Bernard - Nice player. Makes big plays and he is the leader of this defense. Is he a top 5 LB in the league? No. Is he going to want to be paid like one? Probably. This is another tough one. Shakir - Maybe the easiest decision of the bunch. He's maybe the best slot in the league and will get paid like it. Now, if he wants top WR money overall? That's a different story. But identify who the top 5 slots are in the league and try to sign him in that range. Cook - Normally I am completely against paying RBs. But Cook is a real nice player. The tough thing is that he isn't an every down back. He only plays about 50% of the snaps. But, he is very effective when he plays. So, what is he worth? The RB market is starting to open back up, but I think paying a RB huge money is still not a wise idea. I would go higher for Cook than I would for others, but I still can't bring myself to pay him over $9 million which he would probably shatter on the open market. The thing is, I need to know what direction they are willing to go on this team. Are they wiling to swing for the fences with a huge trade? Do they want to accumulate even more draft capital and try to attack their holes with quantity and hope that they hit? Are they ready to really commit to the WR position and get some speed and explosiveness back on this team to play to your biggest strength which is Josh Allen? The answers to these questions are important in determining where to spend the money and what guys to re-sign. 1 1 1 Quote

DapperCam Posted yesterday at 04:45 AM Posted yesterday at 04:45 AM Some big moves we could make: - Sign Chris Godwin as a FA. He'll be cheaper than Higgins because of the injury question mark. - Trade for Jeffery Simmons. Dude is a game wrecker. Not sure what the cost would be, two 2nd round picks this year? Our first round pick? - Sign Khalil Mack as a FA if he doesn't retire. He'll be ring chasing, and he's familiar with the area. He'll probably take a sweetheart deal because it isn't about the money at this point. Quote
