Charles Romes Posted yesterday at 12:27 PM Posted yesterday at 12:27 PM In spite of everything and our D being underwhelming as a whole he was our top PFF defender in the post season. At 36 he will be commanding a dolphins Campbell trending contract toward a few million per year. Seems the Bills could save some some dead cap, and simultaneously pay Miller way more than he’d get on the open market by restructuring to something in the 4-7 range. Quote

This needs to be young talent for backups, and you hope you hit on a couple every couple years. I’m tired of seeing our backups on the field in critical situations every week. Just my two cents. I was thinking the same thing so I’ll credit you 50 cents. 1 1 Quote

SoMAn Posted yesterday at 01:04 PM Posted yesterday at 01:04 PM (edited) Yes, though he shouldn't wait to be waived and just retire with some dignity. He's too expensive for his level of contribution. Bad bang for the buck. It's funny, I try to like Von as a person, but part of me thinks he's a total ass-kissing phony who tries too hard to come off as 'the good guy'. The domestic abuse charges kind of confirmed for me who I thought he was. Edited yesterday at 01:10 PM by SoMAn Quote

Mister Defense Posted yesterday at 01:40 PM Posted yesterday at 01:40 PM (edited) To me a no brainer--of course he will be cut. Though I am thankful that he took a big pay cut in the off season when he did not have to. I am a big Beane fan, but hated this move on day one, dramatically over spending for a player whose speed and athleticism had been the cornerstone of almost all of his elite ability. He was 32. This year: 17 tackles, 3 assists, 6 sacks. He will not be a part of a championship team again, unless he is a coach. And, to me, while getting a good number of sacks with the Rams, he looked like Bruce Smith late in his career, after the he left the Bills, running on fumes, not close to the player he was. The Bills needed a younger, up and coming player who is fast and physical and talented at the position. Miller set the Bills back on defense. But now they will go and get that player, whether in the draft in free agency, or both. It was Beane's biggest mistake, a splash move, a bad risk, a roll of the dice, a violation of their philosophy. He redeems himself in this off season, I believe. Edited yesterday at 01:41 PM by Mister Defense Quote

He started to play fairly well towards the end of the season. How easy is it to replace his production at that price? If he stays another year his deadcap goes from 15m to 9m. Almost certainly a designated post 6/1 cut. Unless he wants to take a significant pay cut and remain here as a situational pass rusher. Those are the options. Quote

I was originally thinking something similar--might as well retain him, as he will cost us a lot anyway. And who knows... But he would be taking a roster spot from a player who could actually help the Bills, be someone who makes tackles, can disrupt an offense, and be someone opposing teams would actually have to be concerned with. Most of Miller's many 'pressures' lately were more like EJ Manuel's passing as he 'progressed' here--when he was throwing ball in the vicinity of the receivers, almost catchable. And Miller likely struck as much fear into opposing offenses as Manuel did to defenses. Every play and every player matters, so can't have him on the team next year. 1 Quote

saundena Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM I think we should keep him so long as he agrees to take a pay cut. Even in a limited role on 3rd downs, he still got pressure better than the others on our Dline. Quote

Can we get 6 sacks from a younger player for less money, & could this younger player get better to give more production in the future for the Bills for less money ? I think for what the Bills got from von this year wasn't & will not be worth the money next year either, he brings a wealth of experience which i think most players here have already tapped into but looking to the future not exactly sure what else he can do for the team i feel his production goes down from here . So like the Diggs thing cut him and get a much younger player that can get better moving forward it will help not only with production but with the cap in years to come too . Quote

dpberr Posted yesterday at 04:33 PM Posted yesterday at 04:33 PM (edited) Yes. His roster spot is valuable. A young player can take that roster spot. I think Von Miller retires. I know he needs just five sacks to get in the Top 20 for all time sacks, but that's very likely another full season of work. Edited yesterday at 04:34 PM by dpberr Quote
thenorthremembers Posted yesterday at 04:39 PM Posted yesterday at 04:39 PM The Bills have paid him close to 3.5 million dollars a sack. Let that sink in and then try and tell me he shouldnt be cut. Quote
