I had assumed that we would cut him after this year but . . .

We only save 9 mil by cutting him. He started to play fairly well towards the end of the season. How easy is it to replace his production at that price? If he stays another year his deadcap goes from 15m to 9m.

Pass. I wasn't all that impressed with him this year.  Our pass rush was still near non-existent much of the season.

I just looked on spotrac.

His 2025 cap hit is over 23 mil, dead cap 15 mil,  post June 1st cut, dead cap 6 mil. So potential to save 17 mil next season of they choose post June 1

If you go to spotrac,  manage team,  there's great info.  It gives you restructuring options as well as releasing implications.

Yes- Now In saying that...

As mediocre/average Von was, the Bills still have to replace his 6 sacks.

Defensive ends ain't cheap, and saving 9 mil isn't as much as we think at the DE position. (Assuming we are bringing in an upgrade)

I am, but then we would be carrying a bunch of dead cap over into the next season.

Nope, Von has played his last game in a Bills uniform. He will never win a SB on a 3rd different team.  As usual the football gods crapped on us with this signing.  And be prepared for this upcoming season being the last for Rousseau / Epenesa. Our elite pass rusher search will have to come somewhere else?

Groot started the season promising, but seemed to fade as it went on. Epenesa will make a play once every couple games.  This organization has the hardest time with assembling even an average front 4.

We’ve got to stop with the “come at them with waves D-lineman” crap and stop devoting so much cap resources to backup line positions. This needs to be young talent for backups, and you hope you hit on a couple every couple years. I’m tired of seeing our backups on the field in critical situations every week. Just my two cents.

Aside from the fumble recovery against Jackson, he did almost nothing in the playoffs and very little during the season. That swagger that characterized him when he first got here that really could have been a plus to get us over the top in the playoffs has completely evaporated. He simply cannot do what he did at the same speed before the knee injury and his age and being out of football for almost a year made things worse. I really thought it was a great signing but it sadly didnt work out. Its time to literally cut our losses and move on. I really wish that they had just benched him for the playoffs and played some rookies because Von was done as a difference maker a long time ago.

That's saying he would get 6 sacks again next year. If you thought he would get 4 sacks next year, would you cut him?

Don’t forget he doesn't play on rushing downs, only obviously passing situations

Jones slowed down this season,  that hurt.  Plus no big pass rusher to replace Floyd.

Having a legit pass rusher will make the rest of the defense better.
