Spiderweb Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Yes, the tank is empty... Once a great player now just a very poor imitation of what he once was. 2 Quote

Von will likely be down for this because he’s not going to get 15M on the open market. Plus, we’re a SB contender. Long story short, expect Von to be a Bill in 25. Why wouldn't we just save the 17 million by using a post June 1st cut and sign 2 -3 other younger more productive players? Edited February 1 by Kelly to Allen 2 1 Quote
Buffalo Ballin Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Yup. It's over. Von Miller is done. He has nothing more to offer. 1 Quote
streetkings01 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Guy was paid as an elite pass rusher, but hasn’t had double digit sacks since 2018….should’ve never been signed to the contract in the first place! 2 1 Quote
Kirby Jackson Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I think that Von has a role as a situational pass rusher. With that being said, they can’t keep him at that number. They need those savings even with the dead cap hit. Quote
DJB Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Is the answer . He should be cut he’s washed and makes too much money 1 Quote

The biggest reason is using a June 1st cut doesn't give the team that $17 million or the $8 million until June 1st. We have to carry his $23.8 million salary until June 1st, so it doesn't help us in signing players at the start of free agency, or even help us get under the salary cap by March 11th for that matter. Yep. And I would assume a post June 1st cut with Vons contract, would also carry over dead cap to 2026. Better to just cut him pre June 1st and eat the dead cap in 2025 1 Quote

I mean didn't we sign Leonard Floyd after June 1st? I understand that it's a 8 million savings with just a regular cut 17 million savings with a post June 1st cut Either way he's getting released and I hope beane learned his lesson signing big contracts to older players 7 minutes ago, Tuco said: The biggest reason is using a June 1st cut doesn't give the team that $17 million or the $8 million until June 1st. I have a question. Can't you sign a free agent in March but structure his contract to pay him once more cap room opens up after June 1st? Doesn't this work around the timing issue of a pre or post June 1st cut? Edited February 3 by Kelly to Allen Quote

If he retires and takes a GM assistant position, what does that do to cap? Quote
MikePJ76 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 They should give him a barrel and push him out in the falls. or you know whatever way they feel is appropriate to just make him go away. Quote

It would save us the $8 million we would save by cutting him while still counting the $15.4 million in dead cap from his accelerated prorated bonus. Then we could petition the league to demand repayment of that prorated bonus. If he then repaid the bonus, or if we won the judgement, we could get reimbursed for that $15.4 million towards our cap. But not until 2026. 1 Quote

No. But what you can do, and many teams do, is give him a small salary in 2025 and a large guaranteed "option" bonus in 2026 with the option to charge it all to the cap in 2026 or prorate it beginning in 2026. He had 8 sacks in 10 games before the Thanksgiving game massacre. Everything we thought we were getting. Made key plays at the end of the games at the Ravens and Chiefs. I can't blame Beane for unforeseen injuries. 2 Quote
MiltonWaddams Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I don’t think that we should harbour any ill will towards him, but he has a lot of mileage on those legs and, based on all reports, was a great locker room guy and teammate. However, watching him not have an impact whatsoever during the Chiefs game said all we all need to know. Von Miller is a future Hall of Famer and should ride off into the sunset and work on his skills as a general manager. 2 Quote
