Should Von Miller be cut?

We only save 9 mil by cutting him. He started to play fairly well towards the end of the season. How easy is it to replace his production at that price? If he stays another year his deadcap goes from 15m to 9m.

A DE at 30 could absolutely be enough, depending on if you hit or not. I would not in the slightest be surprised if that’s what they did.

I don’t see them doing both. For example, they won’t sign Josh sweat at 16 mil a year and take one at 30

Ya that's probably fair. I'm usually not a fan of trading 1st rounders- But if you can get an impact pass rusher in their prime, that would be pretty tempting

It's disturbing how many assets we have used to try and build this dline and how it continues to actually regress. This dline isn't as good as the 20-21 dlines

There is many dead cap ramifications to cut Von, no matter if you cut him now or after June 1.

 

Von wants to be a Bill.  I would redo his contract, and incentive it.

 

He is not a starter, but could be a useful player for us in 2025.

I would love to know what the exact total dollar number we paid him for 14 sacks over 3 years.   Im talking the real total what he made and dead money he still has coming.  Had to be around 4-5 million per sack.

No way. I'm cutting him. Ideally I'd do it as a post 1 June. That gives me $17.5m cap space for 2025 and spreads the dead numbers out at $6m this year and $9m next year. But if the Bills need the cap space before that I'm still fine with cutting him eating the $15m in dead cap in 2025 and taking the $8.5m it saves me and spending it on something worthwhile. 

 

Von was a fringe contributor in 2024 and he will be even less impactful next year.

Miller had 10 sacks, which we will have to replace, on a team that did not generate pass rush.  Edge is expensive, and we are are eating $15 million, and our cap space is projected $15-30 million.  Von, on cheaper deal, with less ramifications.  We have major holes to fill WR1, 1Tech, CB, DE- why create more holes and more dead cap?

No he didn't he had six. I don't think his level of impact this year is going to cost a ton to replace. Von costs that $15m anyway. He costs it if he is here, or he costs it if he is gone. The question is he worth the additional $8.5m he costs if he is here? The answer to me is clearly not.

Von was a move made to pressure QB’s, and more specifically mahomes. Move was made season after 13 second game.  I was all in thinking he’d add good pressure to our defense and had 8 sacks before being injured his first year here.  I believe if he wasn’t injured he would have had a decent first two seasons with us.

 

That being said, he’s gone this off-season.  I wouldn’t expect him to take a pay cut to stay, but could happen.
