I would like to see the top 3 division winners get byes and have three wild card teams.

No doubt KC used the extra time to develop schemes how to stop our 4th down QB sneak and develop their own 4th and short plays.  It was an advantage for them.

The tush push was stopped cold because their DL outmuscled our OL, nothing to do with an extra week of scheming.

Not having the #1 seed had nothing to do with outcome.  Top 3 reasons…out coached, out coached & out coached.

Perfect example and difference in the game…Mahomes rushing success and Allen’s lack of rushing success.

The OP is not suggesting that coaching strategy was not the biggest factor, but our boys were not executing like they normally do.  I think the Ravens took something out of us.  Lost Rapp and Benford, and the rest were not rested.

I don't see why they wouldn't have.

If I were Spags I would have had the Chiefs D practice that play including the personnel on that package until they had it mastered.  Bills should have changed it up in hindsight.

The better team won. There's no need to change the structure of the playoffs because we lost.

I don't disagree with KC being the better team.  The extra week gave them a rest and recuperation and practice advantage.  With the margins razor thin in that game it could easily have made the difference.

Three of the 4 division winners should get byes.

We weren't fatigued. We were flat and underprepared.

And KC was rested and overprepared

I think eventually they’ll add an 8th playoff team and have no byes. There will be 2 Byes during the season.

18 game regular season should be coming soon. This 17-game season with the AFC/NFC alternating between 8 and 9 home games is dumb.

As Romo pointed out they ran that 4th down play with a back-up QB two years ago.  KC has not run many QB sneaks since Mahomes hurt his knee on one three or four years ago.

Brady should have developed other 3rd and 1 options a long time ago.  And that is not revisionist history.   Many many posters on here have been calling for it for months and at least to go to the right from time to time to keep the defense honest.

Anyone have the numbers on whether it has increased #1 seed participation in the Superbowl? My instinct is it hasn't.... Ravens were the #1 last year; Lions #1 in NFC this year; Titans lost in the divisional as the #1 seed as well I think.

They couldn't go to the right on Sunday cos Torrence was being blown up. They showed a few of them during breaks on UK TV and Suh was literally laughing uncontrollably at Torrence trying to hold his ground on those plays.

I was for the sneaks until that last one. When they went on the 4th and inches that Josh got by diving over I said in the game thread "they have to go for this one and then they have to put the sneak away" and a few minutes later on 4th and a long 1 they should have done something other than sneak it.

Our coaches have the mindset of "let's go with what usually works because whenever we get cute, it fails".   Andy Reid has the mindset of having 5 different options for each big play and they execute them flawlessly because Mahomes is special.  They saved the Perrine play to ice the game.. they didn't use him the entire game except for that one moment.. he kept that in his back pocket.

It is kinda funny that when the Bills were in their playoff drought there were only six playoff spots and a bye for the #2 seed. Now when the Bills are making the playoffs regularly they miss out on the bye the last 2 seasons because of that extra playoff team.

The controversial "stop" on 4th was stopped b/c, in part, the Chiefs had players lined up in the Neutral Zone with no flag.  Not sure why that isn't talked about more.

Yeah you know what after further review that's kinda BS....I mean, theyd have called us for sure right? What are we even doing here? That's why the "short" spot and TOD is so absurd. If we're not gonna enforce anything what's the point?

We were the 2 seed last year, KC was the 3 seed and we still lost at home.

That is true.  But the Bills disadvantaged themselves having to play for their lives for like 9 weeks.  KC had their spot locked up, got a nice rest, and also got a nice draw of a Miami team who quit in the cold.  Buffalo also had all sorts of scheduling nonsense with the snow and were terribly banged up for the game.

I think having 1 team get the treasure-trove of the #1 seed in each Conference is terrible competitive balance, especially with how variable a team's schedule and division may be over #s 2-3.  It doesn't guarantee success, but having the bye/free wild card win, an easier divisional game, and home field for the AFCCG is a huge leg up.

Different team. We are a better team this year. But still blew it.

There’s always something. No matter where the game is it still has to be played. How about just be better and win.

Funny thing about this is that the Chiefs are all on the correct side of the LOS, they just aren’t on the correct side of the nose of the ball. That is because our center moved the ball up. I’m not sure if that happened before or after the DL was set. You can see that the entire ball is over the blue line. That is a “snap infraction” which is a 5 yard penalty. Moving the ball up is common for centers to do and it very rarely gets called. I’ve seen refs warn centers about doing it too. The rule only ever seems to be enforced on short yardage plays like this. It would have been the correct call on this play if a call HAD to be made. No one wants to see that in any game - especially a high leverage play in a conference championship game. The refs did the right thing by not calling anything on the play.

I actually hate the bye.

They’ll never cut down to 6 teams so make it 8 teams and zero byes.

Then you’d would have teams shutting it down early after a playoff spot is secured.

I like the bye. It’s a prize for excellence in the regular season. The number 1 seeds should get advantages because they earned it.

Yep, wouldn’t matter head to head. But getting the 1 seed gives us higher chances to avoid KC the entire playoffs.

That’s how Pittsburgh and Big Ben did it. Avoided the Pats.
