Day #3 after the loss to KC: Feeling better? Worse? Why? (Thread started at Day #2)

This year's iteration of the Bills was too bad on defense and too mediocre on the road to win this. To illustrate my point, Buffalo's defense gave up 28.5 points a game when they forced 0 or 1 turnover, which is good for 31st in the league. It wasn't a surprise that KC was going to take care of the ball. I was surprised Brady didn't have a good game.

The bigger picture is that if it's a transitory sort of year and you're always in, show me the transition on defense in the offseason. There's cap savings to be had cutting non-impact defensive linemen. Cut them and fix the position group.

I’m cool, a little frustrated that after eight years of the defense failing in the clutch, McDermott and Beane will run back with the same soft zone defense and not go for a fast tall WR…, again…,

But as Pink Floyd said,  “ desperation is the English way” …,

GO BILLS!!!

I’m sorry….

I thought I had something more to say…..

I’m just upset Josh didn’t start dating Swift. Apparently that’s the ticket you need to get into the SB.

Don't forget one of the leagues biggest advertisers ... State Farm ... They want us to see a lot of Mahomes and Reid. 🤑

And KC isn't winning because their QB? That said think he has a better cast around him. Until we shore up our defense at avoiding points it's a tough go.

That's my point.

The only reason we are in these games is because of Allen.

The D and coaching are suspect

Don't feel better. This is 58 years of having my heart torn out. Following the Bills is borderline unhealthy from a mental wellness standpoint. Continuing to watch bad coaches destroy good players.  Why was Cook not part of that last drive?  Why did Brady telegraph 6 failed tush pushes?  When will our spiritual leader of "the church of process & culture" ever build a defense?  And Terry will just stand there and let all this continue. Sorry @Augie, not even the Serenity Prayer works.  I'm too old for this Shi#.....

"Borderline"? I would argue that being a fan of the Bills for a long time (for me its 46 years) and enduring all those brutal heartbreaking, unusual and against the odds losses of that time period, could be seen as a direct cause of early death on the coroner's report!!

I try to rationalize some of the major or minor stupidity of what I have seen in some of these losses (including this game ) but it really is difficult. So many inexplicable decisions where our coaches have hurt us instead of helped us, players who are normally great let you down and  then the inept officials complete the trifecta. One day when they win it all it will be all worth it. Like an exorcism of pain from my soul. But like you, I'm worn out by this torment and the unfairness of it all.

I honestly believe, at this point, that the NFL has it's finger on the outcomes of games.  Not in the sense that they script or determine who wins, but as Bill Burr put it on Rich Eisen's show "they massage the games a certain way".

I don't like feeling that this is the league I follow, that the team I most passionately support plays in.

I think most of the NFL fanbase seems to feel this way.

And I can come to terms with the Bills not breaking through.  We've certainly had practice at that.  I can't come to terms with how I now feel about the NFL.

Great post. I have a friend of mine who loves the Broncos and he simply said, “your team and mine aren’t NFL league office favorites”. Translation- we won’t get the calls in critical situations.

I was feeling a little better today until I saw again the video of Josh on the bench as we were about to lose. It’s awful. We deserve it so much and idk if it’s ever going to happen. It should’ve happened by now with Josh, but we are running into the Michael Jordan/phil Jackson bulls of the nfl and it’s not a good feeling

Chris Jones make any DC job easier

Easier yes, but not the only reason. People thought the Rams were done because the possibly best DT to ever play retired young, but they were close to making to the NFC Championship game without him and a bunch of rookies/no named defensive players.

I think 31 other fanbases feel the same.

Ive gotten texts from Falcons and Panthers fans down here in the South echoing the same sentiment.   That nothing matters anymore in this league because of how KC is treated.

We’ll see what happens with the Eagles, but they had a Super Bowl decided with a phantom penalty on Darius Slay last time they faced KC in this spot.

Worse, b/c of those 4th down ref calls. I didn't want to call foul on the refs, but after seeing replay after replay, I'm pretty mad and want answers as to why NY doesn't step in with more advanced imaging to reverse those calls.  Makes you think its rigged

The NFL needs to come out of the 1950's.  Either chips in both ends of the ball for accurate placement and/or use an AI imaging system that takes in all camera angles and determines exactly where the ball was.  Neither is too difficult to do with current technology.  It's crazy with so much on the line they use this archaic "I think I saw the ball progress to this point" and worse in our game they trot out going one place then arbitrarily meander backwards from the first down by the time they place the ball.

Well day 2 is officially a wrap and was probably worse than yesterday for me, mainly due to thoughts of what would have been, had we won the game.

Thinking about our players being featured during SB media week, thinking about the amazing feeling of happiness and calm that I would have had over these next 2 weeks, enjoying the narrative about how far the Bills have come, what a great story this is, etc.

You know, for me, that's exactly what hurts the most. It's just knowing how close we were to all of these dream scenarios. And instead, we get hit with more of the same. Yet again.

And those thoughts usually segue into the "moments of the game" that have stuck with me the most and wish they could have gone the other way.  For a while, I nearly went crazy obsessing over the "what ifs" associated with the terrible turnover on downs call when we had the lead and momentum & the Kincaid drop.

The only silver lining here is that if/when we ever do pull this off, this loss just makes it even sweeter.  If we beat KC during the Mahomes era, I would not change any one of these losses to be honest, because they would have all contributed toward making that moment as special as it would be, which would be greater than the joy of winning a Super Bowl for many fans. I truly believe that.
