So, Trump’s executive office decided last night to pause ALL Federal grants and “obligations.” His goal was to sniff out “DEI” and vague Marxist nonsense. Naturally, Medicare and social security are left alone, but the order says nothing about Medicaid.

This is going to be catastrophic for nonprofits and schools across the country that receive grant funding. It’s also unclear whether or not this affects educational grants like Pell Grants.

Here’s the thing. This is unconstitutional! The President does NOT have the authority to override spending bills passed by Congress.

This will almost certainly get shut down by an emergency injunction. However, it’s baffling that Trump thinks he can do this.

Did you miss the “unconstitutional” part or did that slide off your brain?

If it is then it will be blocked by the normal checks and balances. If it's not then good. They need to look at all of these programs and decide which ones are really needed. The days of free handouts are over

Thank you for coming right out and saying you are against the Constitution of the United States! It’s refreshing that someone actually comes out and says how they feel.

I think you need to re-read what KD posted and then get back to us.

Love it that liberals are falling in love with the Constitution again.

The Trump Effect at work!

What do you think “if not then it’s good” means?

Then surely you realize this is illegal for the executive office to do?

There’s no “if it is.” It’s not a constitutional order. Why is Trump trying it? I speculate that he’s testing the waters to consolidate as much power around the executive branch as possible.

I assign you to do a full investigation, followed by coping & seething.

There’s nothing to “investigate.” It’s an unconstitutional order. I work in public policy. The executive office does not have the power of the purse and cannot block congressional spending.

The Constitution is a dead letter, you say? Where have I heard that before?

Why should anyone care? The Constitution has been resting in pieces since 1964. Any blustering by leftists pretending to care about the Constitution can be ignored yet here we are on page 4.

What happened in 1964?

Great Society/War on Poverty/Civil Rights Act. The real killing blow was Hart-Celler the next year though.

And this destroyed the constitution how?

Freedom of speech, association, and assembly all wiped out. Followed immediately by the authorization of the importation of a new voting public, but now it's borderline illegal to complain about it.
