Billzgobowlin Posted Tuesday at 08:10 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:10 AM We are really splitting hairs here with these picks. Judging a rookie WR like Worthy against Coleman is way too early to tell. Coleman IMO has a much higher ceiling than Worthy because he has number 1 receiver potential, Worthy is little more than a gadget guy. At this point trading Mahomes for Allen doesn't seem like a difference at all and you could make the case Allen is better. The burn here is we gave up what the Chiefs needed but not what the Bills needed. You can claim we could have given up the ability to draft Humphrey as opposed to Boogie and that's probably the biggest mistake but our O line doesn't have the issues. We have proven we can beat the Chiefs several times in the regular season so I think we are on the same level. We have to figure out how to win the right game though and that will involve understanding how football games are called from a league standpoint and overcome that aspect. 5 minutes ago, billieve420 said: Think it begins and ends with coaching. I think the biggest difference this year was the D coach and we are in a matter of a few points difference. Spags as opposed to Babich is definitely an advantage for the Chiefs but I think Babich will keep adjusting and get there. Quote
UKBillFan Posted Tuesday at 08:46 AM Posted Tuesday at 08:46 AM The issue isn't getting Josh in 2018. The Bills lucked out with that; can you imagine how much worse it would be if they chose Rosen from that spot? McBeane would probably be gone for a start. The problem was trading with the Chiefs to give them Mahomes. If he'd gone to the NFC things could be very different. 1 Quote

The number one reason we can’t beat them when it matters is coaching. McDermott is a terrible in-game decision maker. He’s also supposed to be a defensive genius but our defense has stunk for years against quality opponents. If it wasn’t for the fortunate turnovers and dropped passes the Ravens would have beaten us last week. He should have been fired after the 13 second game. He’s never been held accountable for any of this team’s failures. If Josh wants to win a Superbowl here he needs to demand ownership take action, but he never would do something like that. McDermott just isn't as smart as Reid...it's that simple Beane has also outsmarted himself with some of his moves That is the difference 1 1 1 Quote

Chiefs trade up to select Washington DB Trent McDuffie at No. 21 https://www.nfl.com/news/chiefs-trade-up-to-select-washington-db-trent-mcduffie-at-no-21 Which forces our hand to move up and draft Elam... https://www.buffalobills.com/news/bills-jump-into-round-one-trade-frenzy-to-land-cb-kaiir-elam When Bills GM Brandon Beane saw two of the first four picks in the draft were cornerbacks, he thought the Bills might be looking at another position by the time they were on the clock at 25. Fortunately for Buffalo, only one more cornerback came off the board when Kansas City moved up from pick 29 to pick 21 in a trade with New England to take Washington CB Trent McDuffie. Buffalo made a move of their own shortly thereafter to land Florida CB Kaiir Elam as they traded up from pick 25 to 23 in a deal with Baltimore. Chiefs trade up, pick speedy WR Xavier Worthy in NFL draft https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40027793/chiefs-trade-pick-speedy-wr-xavier-worthy-nfl-draft We literally have no one but to blame but ourselves. The Chiefs play Chess ,while we play checkers. Top down, they are better at us at everything...Draft, coaching, player development, scouting, game planning, etc... I don't see how we get over this hump if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. Beane is overrated and has just been living off of Allen's amazing HOF talent. He has made so many bad choices with top picks that has hurt our chances to win a Super Bowl. How about taking Cody Ford when we needed a WR and both Brown and Metcalf were available ? If he had drafted either Metcalf or Brown we do not have to surrender draft capital for Diggs and Allen has much better WR for a good 8-10 years. BTW, Vikings used our first to draft Jefferson. Can you imagine having Jefferson and either Metcalf or Brown in the same lineup? The fact is Josh has never had a dominating elite WR, yes Diggs had some great regular seasons but never did much come playoff time. Then we can talk about wasting another 2nd rounder on Boggie or giving the team that stands in your way of making it to the Super Bowl the fastest receiver in the draft and essentially getting no extra picks in return and then taking a big and very slow receiver Coleman. Don't be shocked if Coleman is out of the league in 2-3 seasons because he can't separate. He plays WR but looks like he has TE speed Beane has made so huge mistakes with high picks with one of the biggest being Elam who looks like he should have been an undraftd . Biggest reason why we keep losing to the Chiefs is because they kick our butts on draft day and have so many talented players at key positions. Take away Mahomes/Allen and the Chiefs have huge difference/edge in talent I personally believe the Beane/Mcdermott teaming has cost Allen and his legacy, so many assets going into our defence and our defence almost never shows up in the playoffs. This past draft was a killer, everyone knew the Bills needed a top receiver and we could have easily made a trade and move up to get Byran Thomas who went 23 to the Jags. Thomas ran a 4.3 forty, which helps him create "separation" he had 87 receptions this season with almost 1300 yards. The guy is 6'3 and fast, pretty sure someone like that helps Allen finally beat the Chiefs. Yet Beane seems to ignore forty times and then tells media and fans that a player like Coleman plays faster then his forty time Forty times matter and that is why they have receive so much attention at the draft combine. End of the day it's unforgivable we needed a WR in this previous draft and you had a draft class loaded with many fast dudes and we get one with below average speed who cannot separate. Allen and his team have to question what Beane is doing to help him get to where he wants to go. So for the next 2 weeks everyone will be talking about how great Mahomes is and Allen again becomes the forgotten man Another thing to consider is maybe if we had drafted Byran Thomas then Beane is not trading a 3rd rounder for Copper before the deadline who essentially did next to nothing after we traded for him. Sorry but Copper never was worth a 3rd rounder or at least what he ended up providing us. Another fact, is if we trade up with our first to get Thomas then there is a good chance the Chiefs don't get Worthy or we look like clowns handing him to the chiefs so he can kick our butts in a title game. I think you've identified the biggest problem. Personnel decisions at the GM level. Seems like every off season, regardless of how it ends this team has some major hole or need to fill. Our biggest competitors at this point, the Chiefs and Ravens, have superior personnel systems. I'm not clear what major gaps in personnel the Ravens or Chiefs need to fill in this years draft? The Bills still need a WR1, something we've been talking to death for forever, and a defense that needs help at all 3 levels. For starters I think Beane needs to stop trying to demonstrate his draft skills and go more with the consensus BPA or need when the Bills are on the clock. Even with all that, the Bills are fractions of a second or a play or two from beating the Chiefs in the playoffs. I think all that's due to Josh Allen. Without him, this team wins maybe 6 to 8 games. That's why I think he's better than Mahomes. While I won't dispute that Patrick is one of the all time greats he's blessed with playing for an organization that has built a solid offense and defense around him that has an effective personnel system in place to keep the team stocked with talent at almost every position on the field. Mahomes uses the talent around him to perform at a higher level while Allen compensates for the lack of it around him. The Bills might have viewed picking Worthy as a guy that can't be a #1 the Chiefs didn't care about a #1. They saw a player with a specific skill set that can be used under specific circumstances. I suspect they'll continue to use him in this way and when his rookie contract is over they'll let him walk, maybe get a compensatory pick if somebody signs him for big money, and the year before he departs they'll draft another player with similar traits to fill the roll. The good news is that even with all these problems, the Bills are right on the Chiefs ass every season. Which means just a marginal improvement in making maybe one or two better decisions is all they need. But the window won't last forever. Edited Tuesday at 12:34 PM by All_Pro_Bills 1 1 Quote

Corner blitz crushing him and he heaves a thirty yarder exactly into the one spot it can be caught by our first rounder TE……and he drops it. What planet are you living on? 1 Quote

zow2 Posted Tuesday at 01:48 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:48 PM Go out and buy a good WR for Allen.. but I'd spend draft picks to find long, rangy, hard hitting DB's. We just suck on the back end so bad. When the Bills play the quality teams there are guys just wide open everywhere. Quote
SCBills Posted Tuesday at 02:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:29 PM (edited) Agree with all of this except Mahomes/Allen. We have the guy at QB. It's the fact the Chiefs are one step ahead of us everywhere else that's killing us. (plus we clearly haven't performed the blood sacrifice to get biased officiating) They had McDuffie and Watson (Stole McDuffie from us and hit on a later pick. We had Benford (who can't stay healthy), Elam who we settled for after losing McDuffie and is absolutely a bust at this point, and Douglas who we had to trade for last year that completely fell off at 30. They took Worthy, with our pick, while we took Coleman and then lamented all season about our lack of separation at WR as it was gravely evident in the Playoffs. Nevermind Reid/Spags coaching circles around McDermott, Babich and Brady. Edited Tuesday at 02:30 PM by SCBills Quote
