Pete Posted Tuesday at 08:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:46 PM Cooper was on response to the Ravens. They shut us down. The Texans played same D as Ravens. We didn’t have any WR who could win outside. Jets almost shut us down, doing same D. We got Cooper, and the running game took off 1 Quote

BillsVet Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM It's still amazing that a veteran GM and HC went into the season believing in that WR group. And, that those personnel in that offensive scheme would succeed with support from Kincaid and Knox. That experiment lasted 5 games, had Josh injured, and forced the Cooper trade. Incredibly, they've never developed a true WR1 or WR2 in 8 off-seasons and have now had to trade for 2 veterans to be that. And todate, their highest drafted WR is still Coleman, who they inexplicably forced into being a boundary type as a rookie. That position, from how they use it in the offense to the players they choose is emblematic of a disconnect. Particularly with a franchise QB who is expected to succeed without them. Can't come out of this off-season without significantly improving that position - even if it means going without less on DL or safety. 2 1 Quote

But you don’t trade with your arch nemesis. You don’t give them what they want. You don’t gift wrap the player they desire and hand it to them with a bow. You don’t deal with your enemies! The players are irrelevant. Is Worthy production because of his skill level or opportunities? I ask because with Rashee Rice going down they had to find a way to replace him. It would appear Worthy was the guy penciled in to do so. If Keon got the same amount of targets as Worthy he would have easily beat Worthy in every statistical measure except rushing stats but that might a fallacy on my end as Worthy averaged 5.2 yards per carry vs Keon's 9. What's even more amazing to me is Worthy as fast as he is had almost twice as many catches as Keon (59 vs 29) yet had almost half the 20 yard catches (9 vs 22). 21 hours ago, <bills4life> said: Ladd mckonkey all day long. And it really wasn’t that hard to see. McKonkey another who has better stats because who else is Hebert throwing to? Anyone who is calling Keon a bust might want to look back as he had a better YPC than any rookies from the 2021-2024 draft combined. All this despite playing out of position for those calling him to be a big slot. 10 minutes ago, BillsVet said: It's still amazing that a veteran GM and HC went into the season believing in that WR group. This is exemplified when Mack Hollins is your leading receiver in the AFC Championship game. Without an offense capable of hanging 35-40 on a team, it puts added pressure on and narrows the margin of error for the defense. You can't expect to limit KC to less than 21 paired with an offense that consumes the TOP to a 28-21 type win. It's not a winning formula. Quote

I am really appreciating the amount of post on here that are accurate. There are some on here that seem to think that we have all the time in the world to keep missing on our Draft Picks (early picks) and wait for them to maybe mature into quality, impactful players. I heard for years and years that we needed to wait for Edmunds to mature, same with AJ Epenesa and Groot. Both of them are going on year 5 and 6 and still are not what producing for where they were drafted IMO. Josh continues to age and with his style of play, it is extremely foolish to believe that he will be playing into his mid to late 30s... He may, but mobile Josh he aint gonna be and Josh aint no pocket QB, so without his mobility, unless he seriously works on his pocket game, i dont think he will be around for 7-8 more years and be elite like some tend to believe. 45 minutes ago, jcamm1966 said: You move heaven and earth to get Garrett, he is still young always available, he can make that play that gets team off the field. Yes, before Baltimore or KC somehow finds a way to get him and pay him a crazy large contract. Every year a quality player like Garrett ends up on a team that shouldn't be able to afford him, but somehow manage to pull it off, and we have the same lousy excuse that we don't have the cap space to grab a guy like him. 1 Quote

I dont see how teams like Philly, Baltimore, KC find ways to trade or pull in the Free Agents that they do when they have much bigger contracts they are shelling out for their players. I wish we had teams that had , GM's like Beane that are always willing to trade draft positions with teams that we eliminate from the playoffs year after year. Quote

Not exactly an apple to apples comparison. Your augment loses all merit when you complain about a rookie 3rd rd draft pick not making a difference as a rookie or that a rookie 2nd pick isn’t an immediate starter. That’s not how drafting and developing works. Just look at the progress Brown, Shakir and Cook have made from being limited rookies to stardom. Furthermore, when you have one of the top 2-3 teams in football and it was built primarily through the draft, the GM has done his job. That is not to say there haven’t been bad choices. Of course there have. We can do the same exercise with Philly and come up with just as many poor picks, such as nearly all their picks in 2023 after the 1st rd. Nothing you complained about cost us a Super Bowl. Coaching decisions have hurt us, poor execution has hurt us, but sometimes the other team is just better. This last loss stings. I’m right there with you, but this team is setup for continued success because we have drafted very well in recent years. The quality of depth actually got us a strong season. Agreed about a "thick" team via draft etc. But I also agree that Bills need to draft an Elite player or 3 by now. At least they have some money this year. But its the draft i want them to crush Quote

PauleeeWalnuts Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM (edited) Beane misses too much in early rounds and has yet to go “all in” when the team is this close. The process isn’t working when it fails for 8 years to get you over the top, the philosophy needs to shift a bit. They love to build through the draft but big FA signings is a must this off season. Offense and defense need significant additions. And FFS, stop trading with KC just on principal alone. Edited Tuesday at 11:37 PM by PauleeeWalnuts Quote

Aussie Joe Posted Wednesday at 12:01 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:01 AM I was a Coleman hater prior to the draft… but I’ll be honest enough to say that he has played better than my expectations…. ( which were admittedly low) …And that 4 week injury absence came at the absolute worst time when he was playing his best of the season and earning Josh’s confidence …. Unfortunately he disappeared into a hole when he came back … I wonder what the plan was for him this year ? He was only 20 when they drafted him and pretty green ( still is) … he was always going to take some time to develop … he could turn into a reasonable player in time … was that the best way to go and the only WR pick in what was a pretty WR heavy draft when they had such a need at the position? They seem to play a long game with a lot of their picks … that’s probably a good long term strategy … but I would prefer to see some more urgency now with where JA is in his career .. 1 Quote

Exactly. Just look no further than the Eagles. They seem to sign whomever they want. Every year I hear about how the Chiefs are up against the cap and are gonna be weaker in the upcoming season. Just saw it on here in one of the other threads. Yet, they manage to keep signing guys and stay on top. We got into cap trouble because of Von, yes, but also because of dumb decisions to extend Diggs at that amount along with overpaying average players like Epenesa. If you are going to pay, pay for quality. You won't hit on every free agent but you keep trying. Howie Roseman has stuck out on a few free agents, but that team is stacked and he is always active, never afraid to bring in new talent. If you are going to spend money, don't spend it on a mid thirties guy at the back end of his career. Get a guy in his prime and if he fails, so be it. Can't win by playing it safe. Last year's draft bothered me because there seemed to be no urgency to move up in the first round at all. Maybe nobody would trade with Beane. I admit that I was not in the draft room. Just a gut feeling that they were content getting a consolation prize at WR. 22 minutes ago, Pete said: It would have cost a lot of draft capital.
