When you're 29th in 3rd downs, it's not just one thing.

Its play calling, lack of pass rush, and poor coverage

Of course, but to say that each are 33.3% responsible is foolish.  I think by far the biggest problem is the lack of a pass rush.

Your pass rush has to work with coverage and far too often this wasn’t the case.  The Bills had to gamble with play calls they wouldn’t normally run to compensate which was a mixed bag.

Let me ask you this - look up the Bills pressure rate and let me know which player on the defensive line consistently won their matchups?

I doubt any team was intimidated by the thought of facing our defense.  Not much of a pass rush, safeties were average at best,  not strong on the line,  all pressure on the linebackers.

We need a restart on defense, Beane needs to make a big move to somehow get a pass rusher.

This is very true and that’s why I said it was a talent issue.

I'm in no disagreement there- The bills pass rush isn't good enough.

But the play calling also sucks- Let me give you two examples from yesterdays game.

4th and 5 the bills have with the game on the line- Spags confuses Josh/Brady. That's 100 percent a scheme win and nothing to do with talent

3rd and 9 for the chiefs which iced the game. Babich is in man coverage. Andy anticipates it, and calls the perfect man beater. Another scheme win with nothing to do with talent.

The talent isn't good enough to your point- But Babich always gets out schemed on the money downs

why should it matter?

The Bills Defense have give up consistently 30+ points to the Chiefs in the playoffs...how does a different DC make a difference. The execution was lacking...there was no pass rush and no ability to contain Mahomes...that has been the story in all the four losses...

The players on that side of the ball really choked last night.  If was just play disciplined and stick to our assignments we probably win that game.  Really disheartening to see Rousseau consistently lose the edge and our generally piss poor tackling at the second level.  In many ways, we were very fortunate to be in that game until the end, and I was frankly shocked when I looked at the box to see we had actually outgained the Chiefs.

The only reason we were in the game yesterday was due to Josh and Cook.   If not for them, it would have been a rout

This offseason, the Bills were forced into a choice - Butler or Babich. At the time, most seemed in favor of going with Babich.

The results have obviously not been good. The defense was awful and the secondary play in particular fell of a cliff. Likely the worst of the McD era. For the 1st time, we never had a new guy flash. Every other year, there was a late round pick or UDFA that played above their draft status and contributed. They did not work well as a unit at all and there was little visible player growth over the year.

Do we regret this decision? How much did we end up missing Butler? Secondary play is probably the area I know least about so curious to hear opinions but I personally feel like we need to clear out the DB coaches.

I think the Defense simply lacked talent in a lot of spots. A simultaneous casualty of guys aging out of their roles and the salary cap not allowing us to fill with difference makers.

We were starting AJ Epenesa, Damar Hamlin, and Dorian Williams. Rasul Douglas and Daquan Jones hit the wall. Taylor Rapp overachieved my expectations but wasn't a game breaker.

Terrel Bernard and Ed Oliver took a step back from their performance last year. Matt Milano took a while to get his sea legs under him and got closer to what we had seen before the injury last season, but never got back to full form.

This isn't to say Babich always had the best game plan. But with the Defense we were fielding, I'm certainly not willing to say he was all to blame.

This is where I stand and many of these decisions were made because the Bills were trying to reset their cap.

Epinesa, Jones, and Rapp were re-signed to modest 2/3 year deals because they knew the system and their baseline average performance could be relied upon.

Hamlin started because Mike Edwards sucked and Bishop was injured in camp.  To his credit he held his own at times, but the defense was limited based on his ability.

You could see that Babich was trying to make adjustments on the fly this season but it was almost like he was playing with fire.  And yesterday you could see players really struggling
