I'm in a bad mental spot. I'm sure many of you are.

What are you doing to get out of it? No sarcastic responses, please.

We can make any excuses we want - the refs, the defense, McDermott, etc. - but the fact is they were so close... again... and same result. It feels pointless to continue as a fan.

Apparently fighting with my wife?  I guess I came to bed to loud last night and she would never do that to me.

This won't help and is the main reason why today stinks but....Chiefs are going to be much better after another draft and a healthy Rice as their number 1 receiver. Bengals will bounce back big time and who knows what other teams could take a big leap.

Buffalo was as healthy as you could expect at this time of year and they STILL could not get it done. 6 minutes left and you have the ball in a tie game? 3 minutes left with the ball down by 3? Neither time they could get it done and Buffalo completely deserved to lose that game. Mahomes gets that done 10 out of 10 times where Buffalo continues to puke on themselves every year.

How to get out of the funk? Time is what it will take knowing that Buffalo had PLENTY of chances to win this game and they could not get it done.

Skeptical of the Bengals bouncing back. Firing their DC was a bad move as they lost a bunch of good players

I have stopped taking football as seriously over the years, unfortunately its the only way to not be personally bothered by a game. Laughing is good - the bias stings and makes me question the integrity of the sport

And after you make this switch, winning the Super Bowl wouldn't mean as much... Which is why it's so hard to make the switch

I'm disappointed that we came so close and lost. But i'm not broken like a lot of you. Because while most of you looked at our record and how far we got and thought "this is it! we're absolutely going to do it!" - my thought was "holy crap, this was our soft rebuild year with a roster lacking at many positions and having no depth. If we can make it this far with what we've got, imagine what we're going to be next year when we can actually build a Super Bowl competing roster!".

We came within a Dalton Kincaid dropped pass of possibly going to the Super Bowl with Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, and Khalil Shakir as our weapons (still kind of in disbelief we didn't use Cooper more, but it is what it is). Starting AJ Epenesa, Kaiir Elam, Damar Hamlin, and Cole Bishop on Defense. A Center who never played the position at the Pro Level and a Guard who was a Backup for us last year. And we got to the furthest point this team has gotten.

Next year all of the moves we'll make in extensions, re-structures, and releases will go straight into spending money instead of getting to zero from -54m. We have 10 picks, including 3 in the first 2 Rounds. And we have less to replace or re-sign - allowing us to focus on improving problem areas instead of just putting bodies there.

This was supposed to be a lost season where we get by with what we can and get guys experience in Year 1 with the team. Instead, we were that close to the dance with a roster that is as bad as it's looked in years. Rather than bury your head in the dirt, be proud of what they accomplished - and salivate on the opportunities to actually field a contending team next year.

Definitely a gut punch but I am counting my blessings.  KC had a superior defense and DC and HFA.  No chance in that game.

It was still a fun season and this team is right up there.

exactly, leave this board for awhile.   Playing golf on Wednesday.   that will help.  opening day!

flamethrowing on this board will go on for awhile.   I've said my calm, calculated positive piece, no effect, so..

Onward.

I mean we have been here so many times. Our fans our the best and I'm not just saying that. They're truly the best, loyal, caring people. I feel even stronger about that statement as I age.  I remember when I was a kid in the early 90's after we lost. I never lived in Buffalo. But I watched how the fans supported Norwood. How the team responded year after year. I took on this F' you attitude. We are, if nothing else, resilient. I like to think our fans and this team helped instill that in me. That's what we need to be now. Support each other, support the team, believe it can be done. This team is basically a microcosm of life. It will challenge you in the ways life often does. We get thru these moments together, because we are strong and we know that one day it will be worth it in a way very few fan bases have ever felt.

I let myself rage for the first bit after to get it out of my system. Now I’ll just move on to not focusing on football and eventually get back into it come august.  Wont lie though the scars of this loss and failure to break thru have me giving up my seasons and in general pulling back. I’ll watch and go to a game or two but overall it’s not that serious and worth investing the way I have. I found accepting that has made it easier to move on and let it go.

I get sad this time of year, not only cuz the bills lost, but because football is basically over. There's one game left until September. I do like college basketball but syracuse is terrible this season. I dunno, I feel like like the bills really blew an opportunity this year.

My plan is to give up caring about football.  It happened with MLB and NBA for me.  This was the last sport I had true passion for.

I get way too much negative emotion from cheering for this team.  Losing to the Chiefs every year, enduring mahomes state farm commercials constantly playing, with no end in sight (lets be honest, nothing will ever change with this coach and gm) brings out the worst in me.  Continuing to willingly do this after nearly 40 years is just Stockholm syndrome.

I'm tapping out.

24 hour rule … I move on with life. In my opinion, it’s an indisputable fact that the Chiefs are a better team than the Bills by most every metric, and when the stakes are highest, that fact really comes to light. Nobody wants to hear that, and i don’t particularly enjoy saying it, but 0-4 in the playoffs tells you all you need to know. I enjoyed the ride immensely, and I’ll be dialed in next season. Go Bills!

the bad mental place OP is speaking of is perfectly logical normal and Unavoidable IF:

1. you are a daily reader of TBD. this qualifies you as a pretty diehard type fan

2. We have just had our hopes ( AND THE TEAMS TOO BY THE WAY) crushed again in KC

After such a heartache what are ya gonna do.

I mean I'm not a Dr or psychologist but common sense tells me to do is these things.

1. Get it all out rant rave curse whatever will reduce express your thoughts No Holds barred. Swear at the moon and shake your fist I GET IT

2.Find things to help make you laugh to take your mind off of the loss

3. GO OUTSIDE. if appropo due to weather but even just to the mall or a movie

4. clean Clean CLEAN your house or garage. Find a project and delve into it. The great part about that is it helps relieve stress and after you've got an improved space. Win Win

5.  give it a few days and if need be see a professional. We all need help sometimes. ya know?

Go Bills

Giving myself one to two days to B word and moan.  Also for first time ever telling myself I am not going to watch Evil vs Evil in SuperBowl. Its irrational and immature but strangely makes me feel a bit better. Go Bills.

I found myself irrationally annoyed by cheery fans telling us that we should be happy we’re witnessing this team, win or lose..they may be right, but for the love of God, give it a few days 😂

Yes we can beat the Chiefs. We have done it before, just not last night. :(

Not when it counts.
