I saw it last night as well. But I also saw the same exact thing against Baltimore, Denver, and throughout the season. And not just Groot, whoever we had in at LDE. The fact it has been going on all year, and by multiple players at that position, tells me a lot of our DE/DL problem is due to scheme and design. Our defensive scheme is stupid. It lacks discipline or self awareness. It's like McDermott & Babs are asking the DE's to play nose tackle. I lost track at how many times Greg either fell or got lost in the B gap wash. Meanwhile Patrick has tons of space to scramble outside. 2 2 1 Quote
Buffalo03 Posted Monday at 04:38 PM Posted Monday at 04:38 PM Too good. Beane would rather waste another draft pick on a guy that gets 2 sacks a year 1 Quote

Maybe it's Babich that is having the DE crash inside. I'd assume so a spy or looped could come around that open left side. But no one is. I'd think, even if it was Babich, McD and his defensive mind would correct that. For what it's worth, a lot of teams rotate DL, and when McD was in Carolina he greatly reduced the rotation once they got 4 producing studs on the DL. Maybe he's been waiting for that to happen? Well he better be prepared to wait several more years because he and his buddy Brandon are clearly incapable of finding an elite DL player. Quote

Scheme and design must have at least a little something to do with that. That and his trademark “rotation” for maximum “freshness”. They don’t rotate nearly as much since Von told him he couldn’t get a rhythm that way. That said, a rotation means everyone is equal, there’s nobody that’s clearly better than another so just keep mediocre fresh. It’s basically what we have seen since McD has been here. A bunch of guys who make no impact, just rotating in and out. It’s a terrible system and it’s an indication of no difference making talent. For the first few seasons it seemingly ALWAYS had the “backups” in on crucial downs because it was their turn, at least that has lessened. I know people think the scheme is why the line isn’t producing, but look at Miller, pre-injury, he was getting sacks. Last year Floyd comes in and gets sacks. Now look at the guys that have left… the DTs seem to go back to having an impact, at least Settle and Ford have and the DTs here are doing nothing, so from that standpoint I see an argument. On the outside it looks like a complete lack of talent is the issue because guys can come in and produce in the system and if they aren’t producing, they go elsewhere and don’t produce. I think the scheme neuters the DTs bc they have to eat blockers, trying to hide Safties masquerading as LBs. Edge guys? I think the ones we’ve seen/are currently on the roster just suck. Quote

I would prefer less, but at some point we NEED a difference maker on defense. Sign Jevon Holland, and be aggressive for a WR in the draft early (we have 2 seconds still and an extra 4th and an extra 5th) to use to move around if we need to. Then draft 2 corners and some size at DL with our remaining picks. Pickings are relatively slim at WR in this draft class. 2nd round talent this year would be day 3 quality in recent years. Hard to expect year 1 starter results from day 3 pedigree. Better off spending the money(and/or pick(s)) on a veteran boundary WR to try to close the deal. 1 Quote

We’ll have some cap savings once we cut Von. Gettir done Beane His contract aside, I'm sure LV is going to want more than just pick 30. We'd basically be eating up most of any cap room we have plus giving up a ton of draft capital just on one player and hoping he turns into what we expected from Von and didn't get. I think getting another run stuffing DT to replace Daquan is a bigger need IMO. Edited Monday at 04:52 PM by Billz4ever 1 Quote

We have 2 seconds this year, you draft your WR/CB/DT. Love the Holland signing as well Quote

wppete Posted Monday at 04:54 PM Posted Monday at 04:54 PM There is a zero chance Pete Carroll and Tom Brady trade Max Crosby. Those guys know football and how important it is to have an elite Pass Rusher. Max is one of the best hands down. 1 Quote

My counter would be that at least on Offense we have Josh who can raise the level of WR play, and offense wasnt the problem most of this season (30+ points being the norm). On defense, everything starts and stops with the DL and pass rush, and we have zero pass rush at the moment. Having a pass rush would have helped immensely in covering for Rapp and Benford being out. Not allowing time for WRs to get deep, or plays to develop. Quote

I agree... he is 27 so young he also has a 27mm cap hit next year so he would need to come with an extention... I am not saying they wont do it but the price would be really high... Garrett might be an easier target... it is the Browns after all... lol plus they may be more cap motivated and he is 29 Edited Monday at 05:00 PM by JP51 1 Quote

I think Myles G is more likely to be dealt this offseason given Cleveland's uniquely terrible QB situation but new Raiders HC Pete Carroll shocked everyone when his team traded Russell Wilson and then played better without him so who knows. 1 Quote

I'd be OK with Garrett as long as it's not a long term deal. He turns 30 in December. No more Von Miller-esque contracts for guys on the wrong side of 30. Problem with that though is those guys want long term deals at that stage. DJ Moore's contract is pretty gross. He's basically owed $23.5M every year through 2029. I don't really think he's worth that IMO. Edited Monday at 05:15 PM by Billz4ever 1 Quote
