Maxx Crosby

This team’s single greatest need is an elite pass rusher.  Von was a swing and miss.  Groot and Epensa are pretty underwhelming.  Our priority this offseason should be obtaining an elite pass rusher.  I like Crosby.  I would even trade our first for him.  We’ll have some cap savings once we cut Von.

I have no faith that if he does come here he won't be a letdown like our defensive line is every season. There is a system problem with that unit IMO

Someone pointed out in another thread, maybe even last night, Groot crashing inside numerous times and taking himself out of the play, and letting the QB get out around the right side.

 

I saw it last night as well. But I also saw the same exact thing against Baltimore, Denver, and throughout the season. And not just Groot, whoever we had in at LDE.

 

The fact it has been going on all year, and by multiple players at that position, tells me a lot of our DE/DL problem is due to scheme and design.

Babich to me is a disaster... unless he is just a figure head to McD and he is still running the D.... but it seems to me like Babich was a significant player in our issues on D this year... personnel was clearly another... like Damar should be starting no where in football except maybe the CFL...

I've been saying this for years.  It doesn't matter if you bring all the talent in the world... max crosby, Khalil mack etc. Until a coaching change is made it won't matter.

I think he is a figurehead. This is McDermott's D, it always has been. There is no creativity or aggression in it. It is passive Dick Jauron redux. How he and Steve Spanoulo both come from the school of Jim Johnson is crazy to me.

It's Beane's biggest move to make.  Extend Allen, drop his cap hit, and use the money and the 10 picks you have this year to go get Crosby or Garrett.  I think they hoped Oliver would continue to trend up to the level of a top DT, but he is levelling out at "Very good".

Pretty sure McD has only gotten a single 10 sack season out of just one player— Leonard Floyd last year. 
 

Scheme and design must have at least a little something to do with that. That and his trademark “rotation” for maximum “freshness”.

Would you do 2 1sts? Beane sucks at d line so at this point, you’re better getting the proven commodity. The lack of pass rushers against garbage OTs was one of the main reasons they lost.

Yes. Invest heavily instead of trying to play Moneyball at the position and losing

I would, especially for Crosby whose only 27 as this team is so close to a SB winner and most key parts are all back next year.  I would prefer less, but at some point we NEED a difference maker on defense.  
 

Sign Jevon Holland, and be aggressive for a WR in the draft early (we have 2 seconds still and an extra 4th and an extra 5th) to use to move around if we need to.  Then draft 2 corners and some size at DL with our remaining picks.

Yeah Crosby is a wide-9 type guy.  He needs space to operate at the level we are accustomed to seeing.  Myles Garrett is the guy who could still make hay in the Bills tighter splits.  He can dominate in a phone booth.    

 

All that said,  they are good enough defensively to rope-a-dope with the Chiefs or Ravens they just lack the horses in the passing game.   Kincaid was supposed to be the guy but he is soft as baby sh!t.  Makes Mike Gesicki look like Mark Bavaro.  Coleman is a project because he can't separate and has to play out of position on the boundary.  Shakir isn't physically capable of being a WR1 despite his great effort. Two straight years Allen had the ball in his hands with a chance to choke the f#cking Chiefs out and instead they choked themselves out because they couldn't make plays in the passing game when needed.

Interestingly enough, last year was the one and only year McD was the assigned DC.

 

Maybe it's Babich that is having the DE crash inside. I'd assume so a spy or looped could come around that open left side. But no one is.

 

I'd think, even if it was Babich, McD and his defensive mind would correct that.

 

For what it's worth, a lot of teams rotate DL, and when McD was in Carolina he greatly reduced the rotation once they got 4 producing studs on the DL. Maybe he's been waiting for that to happen?

Crosby made the rounds on NFLN shows a couple weeks ago and without coming out and saying it, he really didn't seem to hide the fact he loves Josh Allen and would love to play for the Bills

He’ll cost more than pick 30 if he gets traded - at least our 2026 1st. Next season is his age 28 season and his current contract is through 2026 so we’d also have to extend him.
