Sucks to begin this conversation but 29 other teams already started this conversation. Bills have a ton of draft capital and should have money to land some FA’s.

Assuming Von, Hamlin, Cooper, Jordan Phillips, Rasul Douglas, Elam and DaQuan Jones won’t be back.

It’s pretty straightforward, the Bills primary needs are DE, DT, CB, S and WR.

WR: Shakir, Samuel, Coleman and assuming Hollins is resigned.

IMO, this is the year Beane needs to be aggressive with the draft. Go up and get an immediate impactful player. Realistically, the offense is pretty solid outside of WR. He must hit on two immediate contributors in the draft and one or two in FA! Make a trade for a player if necessary. The roster needs a significant upgrade in talent defensively.

Babich and Brady both have a full year under their belts and lots of room to grow.

trade the first round pick for an impact player. More confidence in this approach than hitting on the pick.

I hate to be like this, but who cares?  What have Beanes' top picks for years now done?  Outside of Allen, not much.

This is McBeanes team, every player scouted and picked by them. We still have no studs on the DL,just rotational guys.  LB's are too small and outside Benford we don't have a secondary?

Offense?  Shakir is the only WR worth a damn, but Hollins needs to return.  TE?  Kincaid has done nothing but regress, and weren't wr told he had the best hands coming out of his draft class?  He must have left those at the combine.

I don't believe in this staff, front office and esp. Beane when it comes to talent evaluation.

Bean has botched the WR and DL positions horribly.

Don’t disagree. We still don’t have a #1 WR and the DL is a hot mess. I don’t see any impactful FA’s at WR or DL, so Beane will either need to be aggressive in the draft or trade for someone!

he “drafted” Stefon Diggs with a first round pick.

this is the way.

There will be a lot of pressure and attention on Coleman and his development next season. The bills were widely thought to be looking to trade up for one of the big four WRs in last years draft and instead traded down twice and took Coleman. They essentially lost out on Brian Thomas (a reasonable trade up), traded the pick to the chiefs that became Xavier worthy, and then traded the pick to the panthers that became Xavier legette. Thomas is a pipe dream, but the reality is the bills essentially passed on worthy and legette for Coleman. If they become stars and Coleman struggles going forward, it’s gonna be really bad for beane.

Before last night, I didn’t want to admit that this wr room still needs work. The “everyone eats” mantra was cute this year, but in the end, we needed an alpha to lean into and make plays. We just don’t have have that. Shakir is very solid, and I think he’s the only guy in the room that isn’t replaceable. Cook is another irreplaceable at this point. Other than them, all of our other skill players can be upgraded.

It just sucks that we are still in this spot. I think Coleman can be “good”, but I have doubts he can be great. He’s not a separator and that’s what we need. With have a qb with the biggest arm in history and we have not one guy that can win vertically downfield. Instead, we rely on quick hitters all the time. It’s gotta change. Anyone in the league can make those throws. We need at least one guy that can outrun the coverage downfield and go over the top. The lack of that threat killed us.

Still no speed at WR, need a DT, DE, Damar Hamlin replacement, Rasul Douglas replacement, about to give Groot a huge paycheck for 8 sacks, I'm really losing faith in Beane not going to lie. How does Allen seriously not have a guy who can take the top off of defenses still? We should have at least 2.

Get Trey Hendrickson

Instead of signing under performing guys like Samuel, epenesa, D jones that cost 7-10 mil each... Give that money to a stud pass rusher in Hendrickson and figure out the rest.

Edit: I thought he was a UFA but still has one more year- Would definitely explore a trade if the price was right though . (Although I doubt Cinci would give him up)

In no particular order-

WR - Cooper is gone (as if he was even here to begin with). Coleman needs a lot of work.  Gotta resign Hollins. Need a deep threat who can create space.  Clean up the LOS with a guy who can take the top of the defense.

D line - Von is gone, 8 million in savings. Gotta get a consistent pass rush.  Need a huge space eater for interior line.

D backs - Elam has got to go. No longer able to teach him how to be a competent NFL player.  Hamlin is much more a backup than starter.  Yeah, maybe he’s played well but he’s also late to plays a lot.  Douglas may be done.  Rapp and Benford are our best and should be back.

Prefer to add in free agency to get a know entity, or possibly trade with draft capital. Drafting is the backbone of the team, but need a few great players who can make an immediate impact.

D line is priority #1 due mostly to expiring contracts for underperforming players. Then it’s a toss-up between WR, S, and CB. Whatever we do we need to find immediate contributors at those positions.

WIDE RECEIVER

I’d argue WR is a bigger need than S/CB personally - we need someone who can separate, which is the one thing we don’t seem to have on offense. Shakir is the closest we have to dependable, and Coleman is obviously going to be back, as well as Samuel who looked much more the player we expected once his foot fully healed. I think Mack Hollins is a must-sign FA, although his price tag may be a bit higher now. Either way, I think a reasonable contract is warranted. 2-3 years would be nice.

If (likely when) Coop walks do we get a possible comp pick? I’m open to re-sign the guy if he shows up more on the stat sheet next year, but I think we all expected a bit more. If his heart isn’t in it, spend the money elsewhere.

SAFETY
Bishop played well enough this year. Safety is the hardest position to master in our scheme so I didn’t expect him to be perfect right away. Up against KC in their house in the biggest game of his life: he held his own for the most part and made some nice plays. I still like his pick, but we are going to need more than him and Rapp.

Hamlin is a great story, a nice kid, but a starter? I think he’s limited physically. His position is where I look to upgrade. Given the learning curve of Safety, I either target a FA with some experience or draft someone mid-rounds to learn like Bishop did. He’s a FA now, and I just don’t think he will be worth his asking price personally.

CORNERBACK

I think Douglas’ best days are behind him. Last year he was electric, but this year he seemed to get burned quite a few times. For a reasonable contract I would bring him back, but it would need to be pretty team friendly.

Benford has his role locked down and I expect an extension in the near future. He was an amazing draft choice and has worked out very well for us

….which leases me to Elam. I don’t think anyone here, after watching that performance against KC, is going to be clamoring to keep him around. I don’t expect a complete cut, but I could see him moved for a day 3 pick easily this offseason. The only way he stays is because he’s affordable for one more year, but I think all parties would benefit from a chance of scenery. Draft his replacement, add another via FA.

D-LINE

We have some serious work to do.

To start, the following are gone or likely gone:

Von Miller - $17m cap savings, $6m dead cap hit. I really do like Von but I think it’s time to pull the plug on this experiment. Huge savings by cutting him, and could allow someone like Solomon to get reps.

Jones - only $2.5m hit this year, may keep as a depth player on a team friendly deal

Smoot - only signed a 1 yr $2.5m contract for 2024

Guaranteed to stay for at least this year: Groot, Ed Oliver, Solomon, Epenesa

We need some help here. I don’t imagine us being super active in big-name FA’s though; mostly reclamations and older vets chasing a ring. Without a combine it’s not really worth diving into draft picks just yet, but we will be looking early at these spots I believe, barring someone outstanding falling for some reason

Priority re-signing: Mack Hollins, Ty Johnson

Priority extensions: Josh Allen (likely due for an extension soon), James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Christian Benford
