Real Story behind the Buffalo Bills playoff woes. Josh Allen has every right to be Mad.

Josh unfortunately will never hit free agency. The Bills will franchise him when his contract runs out.  If I'm Josh, I say no to an extension, but realistically he is here through what remains of his prime. And it will be the biggest waste of QB talent ever.  What a shame.

Has any athlete, across any sport, been let down by their team as much as Josh Allen has?

Josh has 9 TDs and 0 turnovers in the last 3 playoff losses to the Chiefs.

Bills DEF has forced 5 punts and 2 turnovers over those 3 games.

2 punts and 1 turnover in the game tonight. Don’t mention that though.

And where does he go that he beats the chiefs lol literally no one is beating them regular season or otherwise.  All these highly touted hcs with hof adjacent qbs are losing to the chiefs even more than we are 😂

Are we as Bills fans claiming this as a victory? That isn't even the bare minimum for most Superbowl teams. The Bills simply cannot stop good offenses in the playoffs. I don't care how the Bills do it but they need to get to a place where they hold great  teams to less than 25 points. Chiefs went defense first 3 seasons ago and now they're on their way to Superbowl Victory # 3. The Bills are going backwards and only being saved defensively by their offense that eats up a lot of clock.

As others said earlier, maybe the LA Rams and McVay, but Josh will never get out of Buffalo. My fear is that McDummy will continue to fail in the playoffs and Josh's career will be wasted.

It would be nice to not have to score 30-40+ points a game to win. We've done it plenty. I'm not dissolving the offense here. They had their issues tonight too. It shouldn't come down to Josh and crew have to be perfect every game for us to win?

Lmao no man not at all

pointing out there isn’t a mention that 40% of the punts and 50% of the turnovers over 3 games all came tonight.

Why even mention that? Because it makes the narrative better that the defense is more to blame for this loss.

They are but so is the offense.

We went defense repeatedly and it didn’t work. Didn’t move the needle then to now. So what are we going to do? Invest it all and hope it changes? They need a pass rusher. They should have been trying for one desperately earlier on.

Karlaftis, Jones, Danna & Wharton played great on the line. Our draftees didnt. Is it going to change?

The defense has now forced 8 punts in their last 5 elimination games.

For reference the ravens forced 7 punts in just the AFC championship last year....

Again Josh Allen is a tragic hero in a classic film noir and I don't really know what to say.

They seemingly are missing just a final piece , maybe a great wr or pass rusher but it also simultaneously feels light years away

I told my dad a few days ago before this game ( we were out to eat hanging out) and I told him yeah on paper I think buffalo is slightly better than KC but the only thing holding back confidence is buffalo has never won this type of game in this big of a moment in my entire life.

Whether it's vs a great modern dynasty, or winning the Superbowl, the bills and buffalo in general have never won this game. They've never been able to meet the moment. And it's never happened....

Being a Bills fan just feels like watching a dark film noir and you know the character is a hero but is check mated.

I don't know. I'm not really in too much pain because I believe they'll be in this game multiple times with Allen but if you're asking me will they ever be champions I just don't know. Why would I think it would happen?

Since 2000, teams with 4+ TDs and 0 Turnovers in a playoff game are 59-3

The three losses

Bills vs. Chiefs in the 2024 AFC Championship
Bills vs. Chiefs in the 2021 Divisional Round
Chiefs vs. Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship

Josh Allen has 25 tds and 4 turnovers in 13 playoff games.

Bills defense have now surrendered 38, 42, 27, and 32 points in all four of their losses to the Chiefs. What makes this STAT most alarming is each one of those scores was the most points the Chiefs scored that year in the playoffs.

Bills have a defense issue and it is painfully obvious they will never win until this is addressed. Allen basically has to come out slinging immediately because his defense does not give him time to breathe. I've watched Mahomes, Brady, Burrow, Manning all struggle early in games only to win because their defense made multiple stops in the first half. Bills defense have serious problems against elite competition and this is year 5 of this mess.

Tonight I watched Allen came out nervous and jittery to start the game while Mahomes was sharp from the get go to give KC the early lead. Then Allen had a chance to win the game at the end and couldn’t. It’s not all defense. It’s a team loss.

I hope Josh goes to management this offseason and makes the following crystal clear…(1) I need a vertical threat for this offense, no more mucking about like we’ve been at the WR position the last couple years—spend the money in FA and draft a speedster as well; (2) see above.

My biggest fear is Josh does a Stafford. Says stuff this before too long and goes and works with someone like McVay.

Yeah I know what you mean he's from Cali as well

Let us compare:

2020 24-38

2021 36-42

2022 10-27

2023 24-27

2024 29-32

20s Bills 123-166

24.6-33.2

Meanwhile here is the the Chiefs

2018 31-37

2019 35-24

2020 38-24

2021 24-27

2022 23-20

2023 17-10

2024 32-29

200-171

28.5-24.4

Conclusion: Mahomes defensive guru Spags gives up 8.8 points less per game than McDermott led defenses.

Let’s analyze some of our misses. In 2021 NFL Draft Brandon Beane missed on Boogie Basham, 3 picks later KC drafted All-Pro Creed Humphrey. 2022 KC traded up for All-Pro Trent McDuffie. Beane traded up after to grab Kaiir Elam.

Guarantee you josh is more pissed with himself than anyone else on the team every one of these losses no matter how unwarranted it may be .  I’m sure he’s replaying that missed throw to Samuel in his head on a loop right now

We did make stops on defense. Most importantly, that last chiefs FG where Allen had a chance to win on the last drive.

Most importantly would have been stopping them again with the 3 timeouts after the Kincaid drop.

Similar to last year after the Bass missed FG.

Another idea would be to make a stop on their first drive for a change. 3 playoff games, 3 times they give up 7 first time on the field.

At some point, he will have to be the greatest man amongst us to not let bitterness and frustration with his teammates and coaching staff seep in.

To do what he does against the Chiefs in the playoffs and be 0-4, with the same issues plaguing the team/staff around him every time… I just don’t know how that doesn’t affect you negatively.

I realize Josh is the ultimate "good soldier".  He will never throw a coach or teammate under the bus.  But for the first time ever after these playoff losing pressers, I saw anger in his eyes.  If Sean doesn't get his defensive Shi# together real soon, I could see JA gone someday down the road. And I wouldn't blame him.

Genuine question for you - if before the game you could have accepted the Bills scoring 29 points, would you have taken that? I would have for sure. I thought coming into this game that holding KC below 30 was the bare minimum expectation. I mean we did it to Baltimore who unquestionably had a better offense.

But at least now we know that as long as our current coaching staff is in place KC will always be able to score 30 on us. No matter how much we invest on defense, no matter how healthy we are coming into the game, no matter where the game is played, they will get their 30 points. So now we have to move forward with that knowledge and make decisions accordingly. We need to score a minimum of 34 points to feel confident (although not certain) that we will win the game. That's not really a fair standard for our offense of course, especially against an elite playoff defense, but it is the standard and we need to invest appropriately to make sure we can deliver that result.

So I see both sides of this argument because I'm on both sides. On one hand it's plainly ridiculous that the offense should need to perform at an almost perfect level just to have a better than even chance of beating KC in the playoffs; on the other hand it is a simple fact that that is what is needed, and we should stop pretending otherwise. Do what's necessary to make the defense a non-factor and maybe Allen will get his one Super Bowl win.

Amen.  The Chiefs marched down the field at will.  Even forcing the chiefs into a 3rd down seemed like a win for this sorry unit.  It’s beyond time to scrap mcdermott’s  defensive scheme.  That’s the only constant in all these losses.  The offense has evolved and made changes.  The defense is the same undersized, conservative, soft scheme.

4 games....giving up 34.75 pts on average is unacceptable.  I don't care how you spin it on stops or takeaways.  Josh literally has to score 35-40 points to have any chance to win.  And this too is unacceptable. McD is too damn stubborn to ever change his worthless zone/ DL rotation.

The defense allowed a TD on every single opening drive in all 3 playoff games....

The 3rd down defense is atrocious

Today was it. Too much data is in. It's not changing and you could argue it's getting worse.
