tough that we have to measure our failures and successes based on how we play against a team that everyone else blows up against as well. Groot? idk. top 10 guy. not a top 3 to 5. doesn't seem to have that take over gene. if he needs to be paid like a DPoY candidate, we can't do that. how much less do we get to pay him versus a garrett, crosby, watt, etc.?

is this like with QBs where guys like Tua and maybe Purdy make as much money as the Real ones like Josh, Patrick and Lamar?

And if Rousseau is as good as we seem to think he is, how bad is the rest of our D. we stunk this year. no getting around that.

Not a fan, but don't you kind of have to? Especially with you know who hopefully going on the other side? What a mess oy.

That’s the thing we can’t keep paying guys top dollar for limited production. We already paying for it now with Ed Oliver. He’s a decent player but i expected way more out of him. He’s been a disappointment IMO

I’d LOVE to have him coming off the bench.  He’s smart, disciplined and can make a play here or there.

But he’s not someone I pay big money for.  The Bills need more difference makers.  Groot is a fantastic piece to a rotation but he’s not the guy.  Sadly he’s going to demand “the guy” money so much like Edmunds you gotta let him go.

Agree with you. But it's a mess. It seems like no matter how hard they try, we cant get any consistency out of the most important position on defense.

Groot was awful tonight and like much of his career cooled off again the second half of the season. He’s due for a contract..are you breaking the bank for him?

We’ve got nothing else…I think you have to keep him around for at least another year, maybe on the franchises tag

25 sacks over a 4 year career is not worth breaking the bank over. He disappears for way too long of periods for my liking. He and Ed left a lot to be desired this past year.

Maybe it’s our d-line coach? I don’t know but I do know great teams move on from players like Rousseau’s by not give them big money.

Breaking the bank? No. Resigning him at a fair rate? Absolutely. I don’t think he’ll ever be an elite DE that other teams game plan for, but the fact of the matter is he’s the most consistently good player on the DL. I agree with anyone who says that our DL disappoints more often than not, but letting Rousseau leave is only gonna make things worse.

I'm not keeping Groot, AJ or Von.  They can all move on for all I care.  Greg just refused to keep outside contain all night. Super frustrating...

People had unrealistic expectations for him. He was never going to be a sack monster that created havoc in the backfield. He's the kind of player that's good at playing the run and getting 6-8 sacks a year.

He's a good player for sure but not someone I'd want to give big money to because I don't think we see the return on that investment.

If he's the most consistently good player on our DL then we're in some serious trouble.

I don’t think the expectations were at all unrealistic. Rousseau’s has the tools but he is way too inconsistent. That’s either on him or the coaching he is receiving.

I thought this game was the worst of the season for him.  How so many players came up small and we still only lost by a field goal is beyond me.

I don’t disagree. But like I said if Rousseau leaves that trouble is only gonna be even more serious.

Groot was a guy who didn't really win off of the edge in college. He's not particularly fast or twitchy. He's got elite length and is strong. He did a lot of his damage in college kicking inside which was not something he could realistically do all the time in the NFL. He's doing exactly what his skill set allows him to do.
