Just some thoughts before I log off for a while...

I know that I'm breaking the cardinal rule of posting so soon after a hard loss, but I honestly just want to be away from all things Bills for a while.  Honestly, I've been feeling this way since before the Ravens game.  These playoffs weren't fun for me because I hated the narratives (that ended up being true).  Even when we won, and no matter what we did in the playoffs, the Bills were never going to be anything to rest of the world if we didn't win a Super Bowl (which is completely an unfair expectation that doesn't seem to be held to anyone else beyond possibly the Ravens). 

 

Granted, finishing with the second seed so many times and being "regular season heroes," it does feel like the regular season feels pointless on some level to us.  

 

With all that being said, I will leave it at that and sign off:

 

-Josh picked the wrong day to be "Sugar High Josh."  Of all the things I didn't think would happen today, it was Josh failing to be the Josh we've seen all season.  He recovered in the second half, but he was terrible for most of first half.  Inaccurate, jittery, and almost threw multiple pics.  We were still in it, and he had the ball in his hand to win it at the end, but came up short. (Another narrative he won't be able to shake)

-Brady called his worst game of the season and was way too one dimensional.  We didn't run the ball at all in the first half and then ran is almost too much in the second.  We were predictable and sickening.  What was that playcalling on the last drive?  Where was Cook?  

-Elam should have been cut at halftime.  If there was any debate as to how bad a pick Elam was, it's long been decided now

-I know people want to harp on the 4th down turnover on downs, and maybe it was a first down, but also credit to the Chiefs for shutting that play down multiple times.  

-Groot ended up on the ground on more plays than I can count.  I have no idea how, but so many of Mahomes' runs were because Groot was leveraged to the inside or flat on his butt.  Just a terrible performance

-We've run 6 offensive lineman as much, if not more, than any other team and we couldn't figure out how to line up in this game?  What was that about?

-We can focus on the Kincaid drop all we want, but where was Kincaid and Knox the entire game?  I just don't get what Brady was doing.

-McD's post game presser focusing most of his answers on Benford getting hurt was infuriating to me.  Play Ingram or Lewis.  

-The Coaching Staff, and not just McD beat themselves. If you ever needed a game to prove that the Chiefs live in our head, it was this game.  Josh started out of sorts.  Everything we did well all season, we didn't implement until the second half.  Everyone was out-thinking themselves and it's rough

-3 of our last 4 overall first picks were Elam, Kincaid, and Coleman.  For as many great picks Beane has made, this is inexcusable.  

 

I wish I could have enjoyed the ride and take pride in making the AFC Championship, but I just can't.  I'm so sick of the narratives.  The Bills can't get it done.  The Bills messed up by trading the pick to the Chiefs that resulted in Worthy.  Josh can't come from behind and win.  The Bills can't win a road playoff road game.  The Bills finally lost a game and won the turnover battle.  Josh is the first QB to go 0-4 against another QB in the playoffs ever.

 

Out of all of the things I just mentioned, my biggest issue is that I have no idea what the Bills can do differently to change this outcome.  Our offensive is our offense, that is not going to change this offseason.  We are bringing everyone back, minus Cooper (but who cares).  We will probably pay Groot, and the money we do have available will most likely go to our own guys.  The Ravens are going to roll it back, the Chiefs are the Chiefs, and I have no reason to expect anything to change.  We are the bridesmaid.  We are the almost was.  

 

But most of all, I'm mad at myself for starting to Billieve.  I had thoughts of a parade and what winning it all would be like.  But now I get to skip another Super Bowl because I hate the idea of the Chiefs or Eagles winning it all.  Just a terrible outcome either way.

yea Allen didn't make that throw to hollins for a TD to end the half and was bad the whole first half.

First...another epic game...not that it consoles any Bills fans..but the Bills are a championship caliber team.  

 

Second.  On the 4th down play...I can't argue if he made it or not.  What I have to say about it is, it was ruled short on the field...and the replay, you can't see the ball...so I don't know how you over turn that.  I will say I don't understand why it was automatically reviewed.  I don't get why the Bills didn't have to throw a red flag on that...they are given a free challenge there.  (not that it mattered)

 

Third....If Kincaid makes that catch (and he probably shoud have) then that is a legendary play and it's all anyone is talking about now and all next week.  That was a heroic throw by Allen.  I thought he had it for the briefest of moments and my heart dropped to my stomach.  

 

Fourth...There were 4 Bills fumble and the Bils recovered all 4.  and a couple of passes Allen threw that the Chiefs DB's dropped...that wa 6 TO worthy plays and the Chiefs went 0/6 on those...while KC fumbled once...on a botched handoff..and the Bills got it.  The bounces were in the Bills favor.  

 

Fifth...Pacheco went OB on the first down late...gifitng the Bills more or less another TO...wich at least gave the Bill one last chance before Perine caught the dagger.

 

I will tell you regardless of what KC does in the superbowl....KC is up against it with the cap this offseason...there will be some very very painful goodbyes and the roster will churn...perhaps the AFC will be more wide open next year than it's been in a while and the Bills finally break through.  We'll see.

 

Hopefully our teams will battling it out again for high stakes next year...it's always an exciting matchup.

For all the legit talk about Elam and Kincaid, where was VonMiller? He made one good spin move that caused Mahomes to bail early. That's... it. And Rousseau didn't make a huge impact, nor Epenasa. Josh's runs except one were nothing. The OLine couldn't pass protect while they've been so great all year. Just... WHY

 

For all that, they only loss by 3.

I won't be around to see it.  We went from the pats to the chiefs.  It's boring unless you are a fan of the team that wins all the time. The NFL is stale. Reid is 10x the coach McD is.  All the bills are is Josh Allen.

You have to be a regular season hero to get the chance to play in this game. Don't act like making the playoffs is nothing. I lived though a 17-year drought where we all got giddy for being "in the hunt" and winning the division was a pipe dream.

Maybe that's what happens when you average only 26 attempts/game (17 completions) in the four games prior to a huge game like this.  But hey, we want to focus on the running game, not our passing game, so it is what it is.
