Is it time to move on from McDermott?

I will say this and I’ve said this for THREE years now.  I don’t think Beane is awful and I don’t think McDermott is awful.

 

But the combination of Beane & McDermott is the most dysfunctional great relationship in the NFL.

 

In every stage of the game they are lock step side by side OTHER than talent evaluation and talent implementation.  Which is probably the biggest thing from a GM & coach.

 

Every year it seems like Beane brings in players that McDermott either doesn’t know how to use or refuses to use.

Fired?   No.   You’d have to tell me the better option.   I remember the highly regarded coach and human being, Tony Dungy, giving way to Griden.  I do think we have a similar situation here.

 

Beane’s found some solid talent in late rounds, but we’ve missed on two many 1st and 2nd round picks.   We don’t have game changer talent.  I think that’s a bigger issue.

 

I know one thing.    We’re a year away from this opportunity happening again.   I’m already dreading going into it with McD, Brady and Babich.  Respect to them.   However, I am having Groundhog Day flashbacks.

They are never going to fire him. We are stuck with this guy. I’d be ok with it. If they came out and brought in a completely new person to coach the D. Totally different scheme. And you tell McDermott you are the HC but your defense is not being used. Flat out take it or leave it. Bring in a guy that runs a 3-4 idgaf. It can’t be this bull####. We were giving the chiefs WRs 9 yard cushions. The team that never throws it down fiekd and throws everything underneath. How dumb can you be?

That's got some truth as far as how he plays, but I do think he's a champion. But sure Josh is more of a sandlot guy and that has more variance with execution. But still, the dude put the ball on our 1st round draft picks numbers and he didn't catch it. Nobody could have made that throw. So to pick on Allen seems to be a bit much here.

Allen is a better player in a vacuum, but his coaching staff is far inferior.

There's one consistent thing.  McD can't beat the Chiefs coaching staff in the playoffs.  They clown him.  How can you possibly say that we coached great and if we only had a quarterback that played better we would win these games?

Honestly the perfect coach for us would’ve been Belichick. Offensively just let Josh Cook and you know our defensive game plans would be on par with Spags.

Watch Josh’s press conference. This is terrible and devastating. That is a man right there who has lost belief. 
 

The ultimate irony of the years and years of QB purgatory is we are now in coaching purgatory. We were always just good enough to lose out on picking high in the draft. Now we have Josh and we have a dude who gets out coached constantly but wins a ton of games because of Josh and that makes it impossible to fire the guy. 
 

To me, this loss is devastating and this is the Bills apex. I have voiced my opinion that this was a game they had to win because if they didn’t, the players start to question if they ever can. Doubt is toxic. Once you get to that dark place, I am not sure how you climb out.  I do not think that this regime gets them any further and I fear a big hangover coming for them. McDermott should go, but he won’t.
