HamptonBillsfan Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago The Chiefs won and Bills fans complaining about officiating is a bad look. Unfortunately the ball placements by these old guys, 20 yds away and camouflaged by 8 monstrous humans was obviously poor and lends itself to a bias accusation or at best just incompetence. Advancements in technology used in other sports coupled with the NFL’s undeniable connection to sports betting makes you wonder why team owners won’t call for a better system to give the game more credibility. The call denying Buffalo of the 1st down at the end of the game before KC kicked the winning FG was a game changing mistake that any objective observer could see and taints the outcomes of the biggest game of the year. If you’re going to push betting so hard like the NFL does, you would hope that Goodell would at least make a statement acknowledging the mistake and say they will explore a better system for placements. 2 Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Again - if you truly believe the league is fixed, don’t bet on games. It’s stupid of you, and losing gambling revenue is the only way the league will get serious about fixing officiating. 1 Quote

But again, a favorable call that swings the Chiefs way that greatly shrinks the margin for error for the bills. Are the refs out right cheating? No, but they are swinging games. Or imagine we score up 7 then go for 2 and are successful this time. We'd be up by two scores with around 7 left. The NFL definitely didn't want that happening 1 Quote

Otherwise, you are rated poorly. That premise makes the games validity questionable. Ball spots. 1st downs (forget the ridiculous chain gang markings), ALL PENALITIES and everything else could be done from the air. The idea that this would slow down the game - MORE - is nuts. Fans won't have to worry about "FIXES". AND - when the NFL goes to an 18 game schedule - play 9 games per team - give the top 2 teams in that round a play-off birth - play 9 more games and the top 2 in that round will be in the play-offs. The NFL geniuses' can figure out the rest. After week 9, give every team a Bye Week - all at once. I'd love to see a link on that, that they "HAVE to make at least ONE penalty call per game. Otherwise [the official is] rated poorly." I'm willing to believe it, if you can back it up, but I've never heard of such a thing before. Where'd you get it? Quote
dwight in philly Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Didnt the Bills have a retired Ref om the payroll this year to advise them during the game.. when to challenge etc.. ? Saw him at the beginning of the season.. seemed to disappear .. Quote

There's seems to be a mis understanding between favoring and outright cheating. KC fans seem to think that bills fans think that the Chiefs and refs are just out right cheating and winning the games for kc. The reality is, the Chiefs get favorable calls, which greatly reduces the margin for error for the opposing team. Example 1 - Mahomes takes a deep shot to worthy where Cole Bishop jumps to intercept ball. Ball hits ground with no clear possession between worthy or bishop, but refs call a complete pass to worthy, a play or 2 later, Chiefs score 7 points. Now, imagine if this play was called incomplete. Kc maybe doesn't get a td, or maybe bills hold them to a fg, or maybe they get no points. So, kc gets a favorable call and walks away with 7 Example 2 - Josh Allen is marked short of the 1st down on 4th down. 99% of football fans would tell you he got it. The other 1% are kc fans that say he never crossed the line, even though we have over head angles clearly showing he got. Ball goes back to kc who goes down the field and scores 7 points. Now, imagine if the refs call 1st down and the bills score. They take a possible 8 point lead, or 4 point lead with a fg. Or possibly punt, who knows. But again, a favorable call that swings the Chiefs way that greatly shrinks the margin for error for the bills. Are the refs out right cheating? No, but they are swinging games. Bill Burr this week said he doesn’t feel the games are rigged, but they are massaged. 1 1 Quote
NewEra Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago They don’t want to fix it- this is the problem and this will likely never change. we’ve been talking about the eye in sky (or multiple eyes in the sky) the for 15 years now. It was a simple answer then, just as it is now. Too bad the nfl has it just as they want it Quote
T.E. Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago 2 minutes ago, NewEra said: They don’t want to fix it Really all there is too it. They refuse to even hire full-time refs. By eliminating the gray areas of officiating, they also eliminate their ability to "massage" games in the manner they wish. This was a huge problem in the NBA, even before Tim Donaghy, and Goodell seems to have adopted it. Always thought it was odd how close nearly every Super Bowl became after he took over, for example. 1 1 Quote
Process Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago The eye in the sky reviewed the 4th down call and they still didn't correct it You don't seem to realize the real issue here. 2 Quote

One thing I can guarantee is there will be FAR LESS parties, gatherings, get togethers etc to watch the game. Zero enthusiasm for it is a bigger deal then if some eyeballs tune in, then change the channel after the Chiefs go up 17-3. Which is why I strongly suspect the game to go like it did the last time they met. Eagles up whole game or it’s close. NFL knows people will not change the channel if that’s happening. If the Chiefs go up by 2 scores early ratings will absolutely plummet. Quote
beebe Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Did we figure out why the league decided to put the Bengals in the Super Bowl? Just wanted to switch things up that year? Quote

If the reverse happened and Buffalo won there would be outcry going the other way. And, again, the people betting on Buffalo would be ecstatic with that outcome. The gambling angle is irrelevant because there are actions on both sides in every game. That’s what people always fail to realized when they bring up gambling as a factor. 1 Quote

If you believe without a doubt that the league is truly rigged for a certain outcome why not capitalize on that? Knowing the outcome in any sporting event is a gambler’s dream. Seems like a waste of opportunity for all the people that think the league is rigged. Quote
billieve420 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think there is just an inherent bias towards championship teams like in these Refs heads they are supposed to win. It was the same exact thing with Brady and the Patriots. Calls just went their way more often than not and especially critical calls. Quote

There’s weight to it. Especially with a guy who played at a high level for 15 years and was around first hand for a lot of the rule changes we see that team benefit from. Sad, cause like others have said in this thread, things aren’t changing. Especially not anytime soon. 1 Quote

The first was the Worthy catch on the 4 yard line and the second was that horrible disgusting spot on 4th down. The first down marker was at the 40 yard line and about 1/3 of the ball crossed over it. Even Gene Steratore pointed it out. I don’t care how horrible you say the Bills played. They had the game tied at that point and ended up losing by 3 points. In an extremely close game like that, the officiating is absolutely critical. Go ahead and blame it on the defense all you want when the Chiefs pretty much score on everybody. NOBODY can stop them and when they get called for like 3 penalties the entire game, it makes it even harder. The refs threw the Bills a bone just to not make it look blatant, but every call that mattered went against Buffalo. I had my heart absolutely ripped out today and am a little emotional, but I stand by my words. put on these special glasses, they give you a glimpse into the truth about pro football.
