I’ll take a stud pass rusher over a stud WR.

We desperately need both.

“Desperately” meanwhile we were yet again a couple plays short of beating the best dynasty in nfl history.

Adding one of each would definitely increase our chances of getting over the top.

our offense was one of the best in the league.  Our defense was not even close and gave up 32 to a team that hadn’t scored that much all season while our offense had a solid day vs a good defense.

pass rush >>>>>>> everything else.

Do pass catchers stop the opposing team from getting easy first downs?  I know I am not up with the times but that is surprising to me.

No but if we score a TD every time Josh steps on the field, we can't lose.

The failure to properly assimilate Cooper into the offense was inexcusable

I think not using Copper more and getting him comfortable with Allen was because Brady had the Bills more of a running team. Too many games after Cooper was traded for did he not have any receptions or very limited targets.

Not even having him on the field for many of those games was pretty foolish, imo.

I know they wanted Hollins out there blocking, but they never even gave Cooper any real chance to become a legitimate part of this offense.

@GunnerBill Where are you at in your scouting process right now? Curious if you have some guys you already like/some guys you've circled to keep an eye on but haven't really finished scouting yet. I haven't seriously scouted the WRs at all this year, but just from watching some of the games on TV, Xavier Restrepo is one guy that I could easily see outplaying his draft position. But I know he's been comped by some to Khalil Shakir which obviously implies maybe too redundant of a skillset.

The homer in me wouldn't mind seeing Jackson Meeks as a Day 3 pick.

I did some work on receivers last week. I didn't get as far down the list as Meeks though. I like Restrepo some, but year I think he is another primarily slot guy so as a Bills fit not sure.

I don't think it's a great class to be honest (probably generally, though not as down on it as some are, but certainly for receivers).

Which is totally realistic.  I mean even though they broke the team record for points and points per game this year they were only second in the NFL in points scored.  It is a major problem

People need to be patient with WRs. It’s the toughest position to transition into the pros other than QB.  It’s easy to see worthy’s success and Keon lack of output and think it was a bad choice, but that contested catch from worthy is his exception and really he’s going to be a flex player in this league whereas Keon has the potential to be a true weapon on the outside as he develops. Worthy is already close to his ceiling

you don’t draft players because of what you think theyll do in year 1

Coleman is a jump ball guy and that’s about it. Love the yellow jacket though and boy does he have a nice personality.
Samuel really came on at the end of the year when he finally got healthy.

Cooper seems to really not care all that much.
Hollins is a great #4.

Shakir is a great #3.

We still need a number one.

Bills do need to add a legit top WR but I think it has to be a veteran and they need to pay up for it

Not a lot of free agent options this year. Best bet is hoping you can get a cheap deal for one of the older vets out there - M Williams, K Allen, B Cooks, R Woods, D Hopkins, etc.

Sorry but pass catcher is not the first thing that is needed.

What is needed is some guys on defense , mainly the safeties and d-line that can make this defense elite so the other team can’t score 30 points on the Bills.

The Bills scored 29 last night and averaged 30 for the year.

The defense is the problem. Way before a pass catcher.

My take is and has been that a stud pass rusher isn't going to make this defense perform notably better in the playoffs, but a stud WR would make this offense perform notably better.

Not realistic at all but apparently to move on further in the season and get past KC it needs to happen.

If a stud pass rusher isn’t going to make this defense any better- then I’d agree with you.

i don’t believe that to be the case though.  Pass rush is the most important aspect of football other than QB play imo.

who are you eyeing to be that guy? Tee Higgins?  And are there any FA’s, other than Higgin, better than cooper?

Darius Slayton is the only other guy that really gives us the dimension we need.

Trade up in the draft McMillan or Burden?  As of now- I kinda of like Jalen Royals but he’s really only a deep threat atm

We entered the past two offseasons desperately needing more pass catchers. Well here we are again. Coleman was a non-factor. Samuel dropped a catch, tougher than it needed to be but still a play there to be made. The final play of the game a pass catcher let us down. The more I think about it the more disgusted I am.

Hopefully Beane has finally learned that he needs to OVER invest in pass catchers. The only way we're winning a Super Bowl under this regime is with an offense that can completely steamroll the competition. We need someone other than Allen that can make the clutch play at the end. No more half measures. Go all in on giving Allen an offensive cast worthy of his talent.

either trade up for an impact catcher, or better yet, get a vet or trade for one.

but there is a team, with a very good WR who wants off.  A second would do it: 2nd to Steelers for Pickens.

While I generally agree that fixing the pass rush and DBs is a necessity this off-season, getting a WR or 2 who can spread the field and create separation would do this team a world of good.  Being able to hit some passes downfield would make everything on offense easier and besides Shakir, none of the WRs did a very good job of gaining separation this season.

Happy, I’ve purposely waited to respond this morning as I was too upset this morning.  This is an awful day.  I agree though on a couple of things.  First, I’m not a GM so not sure exactly what we should draft high, but the idea of a top speed WR sounds interesting.  We don’t need more possession guys.  We need at least one guy to blow the tip-off the defense for a championship team.

In retrospect, we outperformed what,  we were expected to do.  I allowed to let myself to be hopeful.

The problem is that our offseason strategy made it impossible to be patient. Coleman was forced into a role he wasn't ready for because there was no one above him in the depth chart. That's why I keep saying they need to over invest. Everyone understands draft picks are lottery tickets. We keep buying one at a time and expecting to hit the jackpot. We need to make a repeated concerted effort to add to the room like the Steelers have done for years and just by sheer luck we will probably get a couple hits. KC has had a bunch of disappointing WR picks but they hit the jackpot with Rashee Rice and Worthy looks like he could be a good pick, all because they kept investing in the position. I'd like to make a major FA investment too just to be 100% sure we have a stud in the room. The half measures strategy isn't cutting it.
