I said this in the other thread about Mike Brown

Now some of those numbers for the browns are misleading cuz they only have six or seven area scouts... Notice it says staffers not scouts

They have a lot of staff in there recruiting department with a lot of titles

The Bengals actually only have four people in their entire department

I hate Joe Burrow but I don't want to see the Bengals move from Cincinnati.

Their roster is not the problem.  For whatever reason, they get off to bad starts.

Cincinnati was the hottest team in the league to end the season. NOBODY wanted to face them in the playoffs.

Why hire scouts when you can use Mel Kipers Big Board?

It's actually worked out well for Howie Roseman.

Are the Browns hiring teenagers as scouts for minimum wage?

That is all a complete lie

The '90s bills were called the million dollar bills.. we had some of the highest payrolls in the NFL

Ralph also made OJ Simpson the first million dollar player.. made Jim Kelly the highest paid player in the league.  Bruce Smith was the highest paid defensive player

And the bills had a higher payroll than the cowboys and Jerry Jones in the SB in 93

Ralph was never afraid to spend money.  He made derrrek dockery the highest paid guard NFL history

He said money on the wrong people

Ralph paid players but he was cheap with coaching and mgmt. Also once the league started going wild with bonuses etc.. he was at a disadvantage like a lot of AFL owners who the team became the main money maker.

One of the major issues for CIN is the team is all the family has to make money, they can spend to cap but they don't have the ability to frontload a bonus and write a check for 60 mil with ease the way the rest of the NFL can. That hurts them in negotiations and FA signings. I won't be shocked when they sell like 30% of their team to private equity to get a much larger pool of funds to use.

Arguable that Ralph paid players. We definitely signed some normal/high contracts, but his entire Cap-to-Cash program was a fiasco that kept us noncompetitive.

That is what Mike Brown is doing now. Cap-to-Cash, and it will ruin the decent team they currently have.

You make an interesting point about private equity. I wonder if the Brown family prioritizes cashing out just so they can give that money to players, or continuing to be the sole owner. Given the history, I'd lean sole owner. But we'll see...

The Bengals matter because of Burrow. And they had to sell naming rights to pay for his contract.

IMO the owner is awful, the facilities are a running joke, and when I think of the Bengals headquarters I picture wood paneling, lots of brown, orange and yellow colors, cigarette smoke slowly filling the air while guys drink 3 hour old coffee with powdered creamer and eat gas station lunch sandwiches that they were able to get for free just before they were thrown away for the day.

All that said, THAT team made it to a Super Bowl.

All because of Burrow. But I foresee some nastiness in the relationship in the future once guys start walking out the door to preserve the "bottom line."

Yea free agency and then the explosion of the cap hurt the Bills in the 90s and far far more in the 2000s. They would let a guy like Nate Clements walk and then draft McGee instead of actually pooling that talent together. It is why to me they really fell into a drought because the talent pool never grew it just recycled especially after 2004.

I have read the Brown family never would sell and is fiercely protective of their team... But it is at the expense of what was a really good roster. When Jessie Bates left I thought they could have issues because he was like Hyde where he kind of QB'd the defense and letting Reader go didn't help. It is why when Carson Palmer spoke and said Burrow should leave eventually he was speaking the truth even if it angered Cincy fans. Their a budget team that has wasted a lot of good talent since Mike took over.

The Bengals took Hamilton County to the cleaners in that stadium deal. All stadium deals are bad, but this one was extra special bad. The tax payers pay for everything and the team keeps all stadium revenue. The kicker is that the main negotiator for the county on that deal back in the late 90's resigned his position with the county to go work for the Bengals shortly after the stadium's opening. It's almost like he was negotiating a good deal for his future employers. City government corruption at it's finest.

I remember reading about this a while back.  The contract includes a provision that if a holographic replay system is ever invented, the city has to buy it for them.

Just think one of those 4 is a parole officer.

gives them a leg up on finding the criminals they love to draft.

I drive by it all the time , it's like the Browns stadium, problem it's right downtown, you basically park under a freeway to tailgate

Browns stadium & surrounding lots in the Flats are among the nation's best tailgates. Those fans are beat down, but wholly hell they know how to tailgate.

Has to be to be tough to be a fan of an NFL team in Ohio.

I think OSU might have the most legit NFL players in the state!  😊

You joke, but I think the Bengals take questionable guys every draft because when a player from a big school drops due to character concerns, it's the only guy left on the board that they know. They also only draft guys from big programs. You could say that is a good strategy, but in this case, I think it's because their primary college scouting is Mike Brown and Duke Tobin watching college football games on Saturdays in Mike's man cave. And they're not watching Alcorn State.
