Thought it was curious when Brady explained his 3rd down run call on last drive - call was Josh run and even if he just gets it to the one yard line Brady knows they are going for it on 4th down. Really? I’m not certain McD would make that decision. The chance to take an 8 point lead in that situation certainly makes going for it on 4th down a tough decision; certainly not a no brainer. Had the Bills gone for it on 4th & 1 there, and were stopped, Ravens very likely win that game.

In situations like that the OC should know and be certain as to what the head coach intends to do on 4th down. That should be communicated before the call. As Brady himself explained, “knowing” that McD would go for it on 4th & 1 there affected Brady’s play call. It’s my hope that it wasn’t just an assumption on Brady’s part. It certainly shouldn’t be. Quite frankly, in that specific situation, I would have kicked the field goal if it was 4th down at one yard line. I suspect that McD would have too. But I really suspect that at the time that 3rd down call was made, McD himself hadn’t made a decision as to what he would do on 4th and 1.

What I find interesting is that everyone assuming that the Ravens will be able to drive 99 yards (In Highmark Stadium) with the game on the line.

They drove 88 yards with the game on the line immediately after.

If the 3rd down run got inside the one there is no doubt we would have gone for it. This is one of those “I’m waiting for the game and have nothing to do so I’ll just start talking out my a$$” threads…

I think they would have played differently defensively if they had to go 99. For instance, on the Lamar TD pass to bring it within 2, the Bills only rushed 3. If they only had a 5 point lead instead of an 8 point lead, I think they play that completely differently

Maybe.

what I wouldn’t say is Baltimore was incapable of getting 99 yards when we have proof they got 88. 11 yards ain’t making or breaking.

Again, they got 88 with the Bills having an 8 point lead and the Ravens needing a TD and a 2 point conversion just to tie it. If they have to go 99 down 5, there is no way McDermott and Babich aren't bringing more heat. They wouldn't be just rushing 3 and dropping everyone in coverage

88 is different from starting at your 1 yard line....and the game on the line...

I want to know why they didn't do the shnowplow on 3rd down.  With someone like Alec Anderson behind him helping push.

And once they didn't get it, kicking the FG was a no-brainer.  They need to go 88 yards to get a TD and 2 PC and stop the Bills from getting into position to get a FG on the ensuing drive.

What I don’t understand is the Bills hesitancy to do the Allen tush push on 3rd and 2’s.  When they run that play they typically get 1-3 yards, I don’t care if it’s ugly boring football it’s effective and they should absolutely be running that play every time when they are on the opponents side of the field.   That’s a couple times now that I believe that play should have been run.   I hope they rethink that

99 as opposed to 88, with easy?

I've seen them run the tush push on 3rd and 2 around midfield. But yes, you are correct, Lions game just before the half was the other time they had 3rd and 2 at the goal line (maybe even 3rd and 1 at the goal line?) and they didn't op for the tush push. Conversely, they did do the tush push back to back on 1st and 2nd down against the Rams when game clock wise they maybe should not have.

They definitely seem to not be picking the right times to run the correct play lately.

I don't think we score a TD from 2 yards out, maybe 15% chance. But nearly automatic that the next play is from the 1 and then it's 90% chance they score on 4th with the same play call.

LMAO, they would've played it exactly the same way regardless of the deficit. Have you watched a Sean McDermott defense in a playoff game before?

This is very common these days that either they have already talked about these situations beforehand in depth where anytime they are in a situation of 4th and 1 they are going for it with Allen(as long as they aren't really backed up on their own part of the field), or McD let's him know he has 4 downs if he can get it to 4th and 2 or less.

My question would be, why didn't they just run 2 Shnowplows then?

Yes, and have you noticed they have made changes on the type of defense they have played this season? It's not just zone all the time anymore.

They may have brought more heat. I don’t know if they stuff Lamar at the 20 doing so.

What I do KNOW, for a FACT, is they drove 88 yards so quickly, they left us 1.5 minutes left lol

Exactly.
“I listened to the presser and the answer Brady gave, but I suspect he’s lying.  Here’s what I would have done in that situation”. 🤣🤣
