Christian Benford: please answer these questions so I can sleep tonight

Why TF is Christian Benford taking a day off for personal reasons, so not practicing, TWO days before the AFC Championship Game?

 

When I heard this it made me sad, like a kid watching the air come out of a balloon. With Rapp out, it is feeling like last year's game against the chiefs, without key players in the most important game of the year.  And this time the game is in KC, with all of their players available.

 

Do we have any more specific information on what the reason is? Anything to do with the concussion?

 

Why is he doing this to me?

It’s one guy man. Last year we were missing our entire 2nd level, we’re playing Douglas on one leg and Benford was out. If Taylor Rapp is the difference then we have bigger issues. Christian Benford is playing. There has been no indication he’s not as he progresses through concussion protocol

He's human. Humans have things happen that they need to take care of. Some things are more important than football. If it's for personal reasons, it means it's personal and we aren't entitled to know. People have a right to privacy.

 

I don't think he was playing anyway.

McDermott did get asked a good question today - what is the latest time in which Benford can could pass concussion protocol.

 

He declined to answer, but I wonder when we get the confirmation that the team is off to Kansas City.

 

From what I can read - Benford is in Stage 4 - organized team activity doing position specific exercise in a non-contact manner. 
 

So we’ve got maybe a day and half to get cleared?

But I share your frustration.

 

Its hard to come all this way just to see Benford get hurt on one of the final plays of the game, compounded by Rapp once again not being available.

 

The manner is the same - the Bills had fought a clawed their way back to health against Miami, only to see Douglas, Dodson, Gabe, Rapp get hurt in the game.

 

Then Bernard, Benford, somewhere in there Spector getting hurt as well against the Steelers. 
 

So all we can hope is Benford clears and now you’re looking at 21/22 starters available, and the team can focus on how to best use Bishop - because playing deep Cover-2 in space has not looked good.

I’m pretty sure he knows the importance of this game. It’s a personal day because it’s…. well … personal.

Right. He’d probably have been limited anyway.

I suspect it wasn’t a big deal because he is still in protocol anyway, and might not have been doing much today anyway.

Its likely concussion related. If he's still in protocol it's worse than they want anyone to know. 

 

If he's out of protocol and isn't there... they passed him on through and are hiding it best as they can. 

 

I think it'd be naive to assume it's anything else

I think the polar opposite. Either a super super legit family health thing going on, or his concussion is worse than what they want to let on it is

But he’s running around full speed in the clips circulating Thursday, so unless symptoms return (which is possible) the  why would it be concussion related?
