If we’re unlucky enough to lose Brady after one full season (more luck that’s involved in winning super bowls) I think he’d be my first choice to replace him.

I think this will bite them in the butt.  They should fire the GM for trading for diggs instead of building him an OL.

Last year, he was a hot HC candidate. Now he's out of a job. Life comes at ya fast in the National Football League.

thats why Brady would be nuts not to take the Saints HC job if its offered .   nothing is certain.  Hope he doesnt, but he nuts if he doesn't .  Slowik is the perfect example of what can happen

I think all the posters who think that a OC/DC should jump at the first HC position offered him are thinking short term.  New Orleans isn't a good landing spot for a coordinator aiming to become a HC because the lack of a good QB, an aging roster, and bad cap situation could very well spell FAIL for any HC much less a first time HC.   If a HC in his first gig fails, he may not get a second chance.  If a coordinator is on a really good team, he might do better waiting for a better opportunity in the next hiring cycle.

Brady has to weigh his options.  If his heart is in Louisiana (including his family's sentiments), then accepting the Saints job is probably a no-brainer.  If Brady isn't emotionally tied to Louisiana, the decision needs to be more analytical.  Ben Johnson waited and got the perfect situation.  Bobby Slowik didn't get a HC gig in the last hiring cycle and got fired during the current one.   Of course, Johnson proved his high-powered offense wasn't a one and done while Slowik failed miserably.

I could be wrong, but I think it's not uncommon for the C/Oline coach to handle protections for a young QB (rookie or 2nd year).  Pretty sure McVay did it for Goff, which led to a fall-off as they transitioned to Goff taking it over.

I actually think the Bills were unusual in that from the start, they expected Allen to do it - leading to an unnecessary number of sacks and QB hits his first couple years when he got it wrong.  If I'm remembering correctly Allen said in an interview that he's embarrassed now to realize how little he "understood our protections" his first year.

Anyway good find, Thanks! and I'll give it a listen!

The Bills did expect Josh to handle it but a big part of the signing of Morse after his rookie year was to help Josh with protection calls. Think Mitch did a lot of the heavy lifting those next couple of seasons in that regard.

I actually feel a little bad for Slowik, though I know he will still be paid, but to have an offense where you like having a FB, losing the option on having the FB, and then losing the talent to run the offense that you did not want in the first place, to finally being scape goated.

This is correct, and it's why Brady, if he gets a HC offer, will take it.  Sell your stock when it's high.  Not many OCs have it work out so well as Ben Johnson who had Detroit's offense humming for two years in a row.

basically any either a great qb are consistent.

stroud’s outcomes outpaced his actual performance his rookie year. Year two he was consistent with the volume of off target throws or passes that defenders could pick…. But the actually got the picks. It wasn’t so much that his play regressed but that his luck normalized.

josh Allen’s OC will always have options to move up as long as they don’t personally mess it up.
