Wow, he was a hot name last year for HC.  Anybody interested in bringing him in for a role, a la Joe Brady, in case we lose our OC down the road???  That worked out beautifully really.  Maybe that guy is already on staff, but seems like no

No.  He is out due to generic passing schemes and kindergarten level protections.  Both him and the Oline coach not equipping Stroud to handle NFL defense at the line of scrimmage is criminal.  Stroud should press charges 😂😂

Bobby Slowik will replace Joe Brady as he moves on to the Saints. The Texans OL was TERRIBLE and Stroud didn't handle it well at all.

He didn't suddenly forget how to coach... just gotta hope we can get him before Detroit if Brady leaves.

Being in a hurry means we lose Sunday. I'm not in a hurry. Next OC is a future problem. Win now, leave with my blessing.

Slowik really didn’t do a great job.

Stroud took a sizable step backward - every passing has declined and INT’s have more than doubled.

Yes the injuries to his WR’s didn’t help but if you watched that KC game you saw how bad he is it at diagnosing pressure and getting rid of the football.

I do think Stroud has a lot of potential but Slowik wasn’t getting the most of it.

Correct.

a lot of the folks criticizing this move probably didn’t watch a lot of Texans games.

Their offense was downright bad, and Stroud looked worse even pre- massive WR injuries.

They scored 30+ points just twice in the regular season.

They had that Ken Dorsey feeling of 1 very good offensive game, and then several slogs in a row.

Their playoff games were much of the same. Before Herbert’s meltdown, their offense did next to nothing for the first half. And that “barely cross midfield then punt” offensive performance vs KC was their season in a nutshell.

20th in 3rd% and 26th in redzone% tells you all you need to know about their playcaller.

my take is that Slowik got that Shanny bump that all of his former pupils get, then when good teams get wind of what you are trying to do and can stop it, the good ones can adjust and the mediocre ones can’t.

Yup. And a season that falls short of expectations usually means offering up a coordinator as sacrifice.

I wouldn't. Nothing against Slowik, but I think that Shanahan-tree style offense is a total mismatch for Josh Allen.

I've seen that mentioned many times on this board about Allen being a mismatch for the Shannahan style offense but I'm not sure I agree. Early in Josh's career I would agree. But he's worked on a lot in the last few years and I really think where he is now, Josh Allen may just be a "System Proof" QB.

He's gotten better at the short to intermediate. The one area I still think he struggles is deep ball accuracy and ball placement. I think with a little work on Josh's end and some small tweaks to the system, it could work.

They got to the divisional round and lost to the defending champs.

This was about the Texans offense being downright bad. Not falling short of a conference championship.

Haven't we essentially turned allen into a Brock Purdy game manager this year?

Allen with Kyle yes sign me up.  Allen with the numerous coaches that once coached with him or Mcvay I will pass.

Odd decision. Thought he held that offense together despite losing most of their WR’s . He could have maybe designed a few more plays to get the ball out of Strouds hands quicker with that poor oline but to me this is not the direction I would have gone

Not to mention continuity for a young QB is critical

Maybe they think he's part of Stroud's backslide.

The expectations of having a good offense. Not necessarily of failing to reach the title game.

Regardless of his tree or style, you gotta be a pretty good OC to have the 4th best offense (yardage) and 7th best in points with a garbage OL and Diggs, Dell, Collins & Mixon all missing so many games

???

The Texans were 19th in points and 22nd in yards.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/htx/2024.htm

They were a disgusting 25th in yards per drive and 24th in points per drive. 20th on 3rd downs, and 26th in RZ.

They were terrible.

Which is why Brady may take the Saints job. You never know

Bobby wouldn't have been fired with a disappointingly mediocre offense. He was fired because their offense was legitimately terrible.

I forgot where I heard it, but there was a podcast about the top offensive minds in the game, along with their coaching tree. Slovacks name came up, and it may have have been Simms that said it, but he said.....Slovack is an interesting guy, because when you look at him, it's hard to trace where his teachings came from. Basically he implied that Bobby only had a playback, and not a system. They said...once teams catch on to your plays, what do you do? This is what we saw happened this year. Part of it anyways. Agree that injuries and online play also hurt them, but when teams know what you're doing, it's that much harder on the oline.

Another reason for Joe Brady not to turn down any head coaching job he's offered...
