Wow, he was a hot name last year for HC.  Anybody interested in bringing him in for a role, a la Joe Brady, in case we lose our OC down the road???  That worked out beautifully really.  Maybe that guy is already on staff, but seems like no

There has to be somebody in mind. Also, there could have been internal tension between him and Ryans and/or Stroud.

Seems odd, but my guess is he’s going to the Motor City

Odd decision. Thought he held that offense together despite losing most of their WR’s . He could have maybe designed a few more plays to get the ball out of Strouds hands quicker with that poor oline but to me this is not the direction I would have gone

 

Not to mention continuity for a young QB is critical

Just reminding folks in here….There were numerous people that wanted to fire McDermott for Bobby Slowik last year (you know who you are 🤣) and put him on the same level as Ben Johnson.  
 

What a ridiculously overreaction and a horrible move that would have been.  Slowik might not even be an OC next season.  He was terrible this year.

They had a terrible o-line and some major injuries but Stroud still took a big step back in my opinion. His pocket awareness was some of the worst I've ever seen.

Slowik really didn’t do a great job.  
 

Stroud took a sizable step backward - every passing has declined and INT’s have more than doubled.  
 

Yes the injuries to his WR’s didn’t help but if you watched that KC game you saw how bad he is it at diagnosing pressure and getting rid of the football.  
 

I do think Stroud has a lot of potential but Slowik wasn’t getting the most of it.

Hard to run a competent offense when your OL is terrible and you lose 2 of your top 3 wrs

Bobby Slowik will replace Joe Brady as he moves on to the Saints. The Texans OL was TERRIBLE and Stroud didn't handle it well at all.

 

He didn't suddenly forget how to coach... just gotta hope we can get him before Detroit if Brady leaves.

Slowik I thought did a good job. At various points this year he lost Diggs, Collins, Dell, Mixon to injury. They still made the divisional round. He even interviewed for a couple HC spots this cycle.

 

And out of a job. You got a hop on jobs when you're hot. Bet on yourself and you just may go bankrupt for reasons beyond your control anyway.

…And your QB regressed to the point that he’s throwing more than twice the INT’s of last season and is surrendering needless sacks due to lack of awareness.

Partly attributed, sure.  But go back and watch the sacks he took this season.  Many were on CJ.   
 

I’ve often heard “sacks are a QB stat.”  That is and isn’t true but more times than not in Houston, I’d argue this was the case.

The Texans had a bad OL and lost Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to injuries for the season. Started guys like Xavier Hutchinson and Jared Wayne at WR.

So by all means, fire the OC.
