In fact, I would get on my knees in tears of joy and give thanks to every god I could think of (and Hinduism supposedly has 330 million of them). But I'd take the job because I'd never have a better option. Joe Brady might. Sometimes good coaches fail as head coaches because they don't have the right organization and/or roster talent. And then they get stuck with a losing record on their resume. And then it becomes hard to get another shot. Just ask Jim Fassel, Vance Joseph, Spags, or Leslie Frazier. If I were me, I'd jump on the opportunity to coach the Saints. But if I were Joe, I wouldn't take the first opportunity that came my way. I'd wait for the best opportunity and that might not be NO. Waiting also has some risk. The NFL is hard to predict. Sure, Joe Brady running it back with Josh feels safe. It probably is. But the Commanders job opened for Ben Johnson, he turned his nose up to it and they are in an NFCCG with a QB who appears well on his way to franchise status. Now Johnson may have a good opportunity in Chicago, but if both jobs were free tomorrow, the Commanders is the far better one. The Saints have an uphill climb for sure, but they are willing to spend and I don't think their ownership meddles (it is kind of dysfunctional). Personally, if I was a good OC with multiple offers, I would pick a team willing to spend money that is going to give me a year or two leash to reset things. If the Saints want instant playoffs, with their finances and Derek Carr, I would have no interest. If they would allow you to reset a year, take you medicine, and target a highly drafted QB, I'd jump on it. 1 Quote

With that in mind, we're urging readers to phone or email Dallas and New Orleans to endorse Rex Ryan for head coach. 3 minutes ago, US Egg said: Probably just looking to build up his Social Security. A lot of young cocktail waitresses and blackjack dealers in Vegas. Who knows, could end up dating Jerry Sullivan's daughter. 🤔 2 Quote

Not a lot to choose from this offseason - Flacco, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Brissett, Mac Jones, etc. He doesn’t have the time to draft a QB and let him mature. Although, could draft a guy and let him learn. I do see him as a culture changer for sure. His ex-players love him. Pete only got a 3 year deal (with team option for a fourth season). An odd contact for coaches I believe. So he may just be a short term culture setter. But if you see video of him in practice He's still got more energy than guys half his age. 2 Quote

Yeah, caught that video. Running and throwing the ball looking good! 3 years and option to me is to get the organization on track. May even have a guy on his new staff that is the heir apparent. Has happened before. 1 Quote
ticketssince61 Posted Friday at 10:55 PM Posted Friday at 10:55 PM To me, seems like his time has passed. I would want to select a coach that if he is good, will be around a long time. Quote

Wonder if they're waiting for the Bills season to be over. I live near NO, a lot of talk on sports radio about Brady. He had the big LSU connection. Quote

Carroll is a good hire for the Raiders. I agree, and I find it funny how many people think Belichick would be successful anywhere, yet he’s a similar age. Some of those people must be the same who are saying Carroll is too old. Carroll seems a lot more vibrant and energetic than Belichick. I give him better odds to succeed at this point. 1 Quote

thenorthremembers Posted yesterday at 01:44 AM Posted yesterday at 01:44 AM I like this hire more for the Raiders than I do the Aaron Glenn for the Jets. Quote

I think Brady would be crazy to take that job. No QB, really bad salary cap, no extra picks. Yeah Brady can take the Ben Johnson route, let your stock rise another year and really take your pick of better jobs. The only redeeming quality for the Saints job is that the division is winnable. ChronicAndKnuckles Posted yesterday at 03:32 AM Posted yesterday at 03:32 AM This is a good hire. Pete Carroll is gonna establish a winning culture there. He’s old but he still has plenty of life and looks great for his age. Quote

Not because he can't coach, he likely ends up in the HoF.... but asking a 73 year old to come and completely turn around the culture in a building is asking a LOT yea, you can outsource a lot to coordinators etc… but at some point he’s still going to have the be the dude to be 100% sharp after months of grinding in late December when you have 3 games in 11 days because of Xmas at some point it’s just got to catch up and he will be 74 week 2 of the season to boot… he could be a total anomaly - they exist but at some point you have to think he will just be tired in a different way than Mcvay would be… 1 Quote
Mister Defense Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM Posted yesterday at 04:57 AM Yes! One less team today that will hire a head coach. Hopefully New Orleans, the team that I think is most likely to really want Brady, possibly the second coming of their offensive guru and leader, will hire someone in the next few days. Quote

Some guys are senile old men with canes at that age. Others are mentally sharp and run ultramarathons. As someone who is a very active 66, I'm a bit sensitive about age discrimination. Suggesting an older person can't do a job because of their age is not all that different from assuming a person can't do a job because of their color or gender. As a culture, I look forward to the day when we stop using faulty stereotypes in our judgments and instead take each person as they uniquely are. Carrol was unsuccessful in his one year with the Jets, moderately successful with the Pats, very successful with USC, and then successful with Seattle (.606 and a Lombardi). He'll do well with the Raiders if the new GM can find some talent beyond Bowers. And really, what is the average tenure of an NFL coach? If people are worried about what happens in year three or four, well, most won’t even survive that long. He can stabilize that franchise. 1 Quote

Carroll's biggest strength was his energy and his ability to energise a locker room. That was what made him special. Not Xs and Os, certainly not discipline, it was energy. He is 74 in week 2. I seriously doubt his ability to be the guy he was in 2010/2011 when he was stabilising and turning around the Seahawks. Quote
