I think you only take that job if you aren't sure you will be offered again in the future. Since Brady would be staying with Allen in this scenario it is very likely he would be a hot candidate next year. So if I was Brady, no I wouldn't take it. What if the Bengals job comes open next year and he could have Burrow/Chase as opposed to Carr/Olave (who is contemplating retirement) 1 2 2 Quote

C.Biscuit97 Posted Friday at 03:50 PM Posted Friday at 03:50 PM For the Raiders, it’s a solid hire. I’m shocked he’s as old as he is because he’s aging like wine. Also, it’s BS that you give Antonio Pierce the QBs you did and trade Adams, then expect them not to be bad. so if they don’t improve their QB situation, they will be looking for a coach in a few years again. The Raiders are like the likable Cowboys - way too hyped franchise that is kinda a joke. 1 Quote
bills6969 Posted Friday at 03:50 PM Posted Friday at 03:50 PM That’s actually a low key good hire. Pete Carroll will at least keep them respectable for next couple years. 3 1 Quote
gordong Posted Friday at 03:50 PM Posted Friday at 03:50 PM so looking good to get Brady back ... Quote
mushypeaches Posted Friday at 03:51 PM Posted Friday at 03:51 PM I mean, the Raiders have certainly made much worse coaching choices over the past 25 years This doesn't really move the needle on the team's overall success until the figure out the QB situation long-term Pete might "rah-rah" and "culture" his way to a couple more victories than Antonio Pierce would, but the end results still look like "meh" 1 Quote

GunnerBill Posted Friday at 03:55 PM Posted Friday at 03:55 PM I think Pete is a terrible hire. Not because he can't coach, he likely ends up in the HoF.... but asking a 73 year old to come and completely turn around the culture in a building is asking a LOT 1 1 Quote

Wonder if they're waiting for the Bills season to be over. I heard in a podcast this morning that the Saints have lined up 3 or 4 candidates for second interviews (in-person) next week. Joe Brady is one of the contenders with an interview next week. It's not a done-deal yet, but Brady is clearly still in the mix for the Saints job. Quote

But he is a finalist for the Saints job. That was always the job I was most worried about with him I'd have been surprised if he'd ended up in any of the other vacancies. 1 Quote

hondo in seattle Posted Friday at 03:57 PM Posted Friday at 03:57 PM (edited) Carroll is a good coach. As for his age... people age differently. Some guys are senile old men with canes at that age. Others are mentally sharp and run ultramarathons. As someone who is a very active 66, I'm a bit sensitive about age discrimination. Suggesting an older person can't do a job because of their age is not all that different from assuming a person can't do a job because of their color or gender. As a culture, I look forward to the day when we stop using faulty stereotypes in our judgments and instead take each person as they uniquely are. Carrol was unsuccessful in his one year with the Jets, moderately successful with the Pats, very successful with USC, and then successful with Seattle (.606 and a Lombardi). He'll do well with the Raiders if the new GM can find some talent beyond Bowers. Edited Friday at 05:54 PM by hondo in seattle 2 1 2 Quote

Sojourner Posted Friday at 04:00 PM Posted Friday at 04:00 PM Pretty rough hire but having that rah-rah, dazzle dazzle college coach may be what they need to get up off the ground to start. Can’t see him turning that into the Seattle circumstances, you never know though. 1 Quote
