I don't mind the hire. The Raiders need a new mindset and Pete can bring that. I view it as a "bridge HC" hire. This is almost like a Dick Vermeil hire to me.

He doesn't have much at QB. But this is the guy that ran a Seahawks team that hid Russ Wilson for years and under his watch turned Geno Smith into a mid level starter. I don't think they need to get him much to work with. Maybe a Sam Darnold landing spot for me.

One of only 32 of these jobs in the entire world

Be honest, you'd take that job if offered

Well of course I would. I'm just a schmuck with no OC or coaching experience.

But Joe Brady is (now that Ben Johnson got hired) the top OC Head Coach candidate. This year or next. He can sit back and choose his spot. He doesnt have to take the first job offered. Just like Johnson did.

Wishful thinking, here...

I think Ben Johnson just showed that you can wait for a better spot.  I think you only take that job if you aren't sure you will be offered again in the future.  Since Brady would be staying with Allen in this scenario it is very likely he would be a hot candidate next year.  So if I was Brady, no I wouldn't take it.  What if the Bengals job comes open next year and he could have Burrow/Chase as opposed to Carr/Olave (who is contemplating retirement)

Ben Johnson turned down the commanders, who are playing a game this weekend l, so hard to say he made the right choice

Just don’t try to run it back with Russ.

I like the move.  I think he is a good coach for where they are at this point.

If not him, then tell me who else of some skill at the position was going to take THAT job.

Pretty hard to find an up and coming coach for a team in a brutal division, with no QB and no chance to compete until 2027…

For sure but think about this time last year.  The Commanders had a terrible reputation and a dearth of talent.  Their owner hasn't done well in the NBA so I can see being nervous about how he would do in the NFL.  Also if Johnson goes there, Kliff doesn't so who knows how Daniels performs this year.  Add in the Quinn isn't a first time HC and I don't think it is as easy as saying he would be successful as well if he had taken the job.

In hindsight he probably regrets somewhat not taking that job but I just feel that Saints job is a mess.  Commanders were going to get their pick of Daniels or Maye, Bears have Williams, Saints have the shell of Derek Carr who I never really loved to begin with.

Going into next year the saints have negative 50 million in cap space, 48 million in dead cap, 36 year old cam jordan making 20 mill, torn acl 35 year old taysom hill making 17 mill, 33 year old Honey Badger making 11 mill, and Carr making 50 mill!

I agree that 1 of 32 is enticing.  I just think this Saints job is so bad, nobody can be successful at it and Brady could do real damage to his reputation if he takes it.  Look at what the Panthers OC job did to his reputation.

Pete was in a similar situation with the Hawks. That was the year they signed Flynn to play QB and doubled down on Wilson in the 3rd.

I can see a similar approach. Maybe Darnold as the vet and draft a QB like Milroe or Will Howard to compete on day 2 or 3.

I'll never understand this mindset. Go enjoy the time you have left. Stressing out and ignoring your family, friends, and the world outside of football hardly seems worth it to me.

Two separate issues:

1) Whether a top-ranked candidate can wait for a good opportunity

2) Whether he will make the right decision

Conversely if you have the opportunity to do something you love…

They love coaching. It is their life, for better or worse. Plus, they get a few months off in the offseason.

True.

It's too bad I've been cursed with a love of beer, pizza, video games and naps. Hard to making a living doing those things.

You could cover three at once by opening a bar-cade that serves pizza and wings. 😉

-agreed

-they get a few months of 8-10 hour days. There is no offseason for head coaches. Or players for that matter. Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban tried coaching in the NFL with college  coach hours. Didn't work out so well.

UNINSPIRING

They'll undoubtedly add running backs to the roster and try to run the ball.

he has to.  they are the worst running team in the league.  they have no RB.  maybe they move up and get a QB (Trapasso has them trading up to #1 for Sanders...but he also has Giants passing on Hunter for.....Jalen Milroe!!, which be a Giants thing to do).

this is a great hire for a transitioning program.
