Big Turk Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Well, well, well... Nice power play by Coen to get Baalke out of there by telling them "Thanks, but no thanks as long as he is still here". 1 Quote

It also means he is walking in as an already popular guy with the fanbase who desperately wanted Baalke out. 3 2 Quote
Doc Brown Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago McDermott kind of did the same thing in a more subtle way with Doug Whaley. It'll be interesting to see who they pick to replace Baalke. Mike Greenburg would be my guess as he was with Coen in Tampa. 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago It’s a solid hire for the Jags imo. Seems to get the most out of offenses. Needs to choose the right DC Quote

davefan66 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Kinda figured once they sent Baalke packing, something was up. Too much made about what Coen said and that Khan basically said if a coaching candidate wants him gone, we will have entertain it. Apparently Coen went radio silence on the Bucs organization and swung the deal without them knowing he was a candidate again. Reportd by Florio, so who knows. 1 Quote

colin Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago he got himself a mcdermott situation. he picks the gm and the power dynamic is shifted in his favor. it might buy him a scape goat if they don't have cap to sign and keep talent given how underwater that team is on the qb contract. if he makes that qb turn around and look solid, he has like 3 years of run room. not a terrible spot IMO. 1 Quote

Plus, you get an all-expenses paid yearly two-week trip to London. Not bad at all. 2 Quote
Straight Hucklebuck Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Good luck with that organization. It's Cleveland level chaotic with firings. Quote
Mr. WEO Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I heard every other candidate told them they wouldn't be interested unless Balke was fired. They waited too long, now they have Liam Coen.... Quote

I think the writing was on the wall when they when they banned Whaley from speaking to the media. It was obvious at the NFL scouting combine in March when the Bills declined to make Whaley available to speak to the media — which is commonplace for general managers at that event — that his days were numbered. When he was also muted at the NFL owners’ meetings, and lastly, and perhaps most alarmingly, he was not allowed to talk at the team’s annual draft luncheon a couple weeks ago, which has always been the domain of the GM and the personnel chiefs, there was no doubt Whaley was a short-timer in Buffalo. https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/football/nfl/bills/2017/04/30/no-ones-surprise-buffalo-bills-fire-gm-doug-whaley/101122388/ 1 Quote
